- Опубликовано: 16 сен 2024
- “Not for Rehire” is a quirky and unique special in which comedian Keith Lowell Jensen takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride through the many hirings and firing of his spotted career history from being punched by one employer, to another pushing him, unprepared, onto the stage in front of a large crowd at a film festival, inadvertently starting his comedy career.
Keith tells largely autobiographical stories that are engaging, hilarious and poignant, garnering him a sizable devoted following.
He has appeared on the History Channel, Spike TV, Lopez Tonight on TBS, and the Starz Network, and has seven comedy albums to his credit with his latest, "Unclean" earning a featured spot on SiriusXM's Raw Dog Comedy Channel. He boasts over 7.5 million spins on Pandora, and over 1 million on Spotify. His book, "Punching Nazis and Other Good Ideas" was published by Skyhorse Books in 2019.

I absolutely love the humanity in these stories... they are heartwarming and hilarious.
That's a great compliment. Thank you
He is a terrific story teller. I came here after his bike/jail story.
Thanks for checking out both!
This has got to be one of my favorites comedy sets of all time. I was crying, smiling, and clapping at my screen towards the very end.
Thank you so much! That's wonderful to read.
I have a newer one on this channel called What I Was Arrested For. Maybe you'd like it as well.
This show deserves the exposure Netflix could give. A lot better than most of the specials they do put on, very engaging and very funny. Needs a bigger audience.
This is one of the best specials that I have seen. Reminds me of Mike Birbiglia, just top-notch storytelling.
Thank You! His special "My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" is fantastic!
Agreed
Woah dude...this set has a deep truth about it.
At first I thought the whole magic thing was cheesy...but now I get it.
Well done man.
that was so clever.
the reaction of the crowd mirrored that realization, bro. i rewatched that part alone like 6 times. :D
I love his specials so much. Wonderful comedy, a real talent. What a great actor and a comedian.
Storytelling is just amazing
Thank you so much.
There's something (magical?) about just sitting and listening to someone tell stories for a while.
It's good to be a magician sometimes. Thanks
Thanks for the laughter - the level of petty with tormenting the ex-boss was just *cheff's kiss* XD
Ha ha. Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it
I just watched this again, after being lucky enough to be in the audience at the taping. I love Keith's relaxed and hilarious style of storytelling. The KFC routine is one of my favorites of all time!
Thanks, Karma! That means a lot to me.
also, having lived in Louisville Kentucky, another funny thought occurred: KLJ reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson from Louisville!!! They had yearly art exhibits dedicated to him every year. KLJ has serious Hunter S. Thompson vibes (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Rum Diaries, Hell's Angels, etc.) Hunter got his first start into his own invention of "gonzo journalism" when he wrote his first journalism piece about the Kentucky Derby.
Incredible storytelling and crazy funny. Great job Keith!
Thanks!
Watching this again because Keith is awesome!
This is one of the best routines I've seen, the best in a very long time! Keith, if you still lurk on these comments, just know that you're killing it man! Absolutely amazing. And no, I wasn't crying, my eyelash was sweating. Haha! 🙂💙
Thanks so much, Bub! I really appreciate that. Sorry for making your eyelashes sweat.
The story about Mike at the end gives me chills. I like it when my comedy comes with a little feeling.
Thanks Jeffrey! I like the little feelings in your books, so this is a great compliment!
@@keithlowelljensen9997 do you have a reddit AMA? I'm a reddit lurker and sports redditor now and then. Your next special "Why I Got Arrested" was sooo gooooood!!! This one was beautiful, bro.
I absolutely love this. Having grown up near there makes the magic factor escalate considerably. Great work, Keith!
Thanks Daniel!
Listen to these a lot at work. This one, definitely one of my favorite.
Gotta step outside after that
Thanks! How fitting!
I usually listen to comedy to fall asleep because none of it makes me laugh out loud anymore, but the fried fingers bit had me laughing out loud in bed! What the fuck is that so funny to meeeeee
Ha. I owe you these: Zzzzzzz
@@keithlowell awwww thank you. Still raving about that bit lmao
Thank you for access to the video. Hilarious from start to finish, of course. I have previously heard the audio but it's like my first time with this material thanks to the video!
You're welcome, Michael! Thanks for the support!
So good, amazing.
Thank you!
I love this special! Keith is an incredible storyteller and comedian
Thanks so much, Moses!
Keith is amazing! Thank you for the support.
This was just what my New Year's Eve needed. Thanks, Keith!
Happy New Year! Thanks!
Great special! Good work Keith, always hilarious.
Thanks, dude! Worked some of this set out doing shows with you!
I came here because you told me to. You did NOT disappoint! I won't say "I love you" but we can both see where this is going...
If you'd like to keep working your way backward through my specials, the next one is called Bad Comedy For Bad People, but I think it costs a couple bucks to watch.
@@keithlowell I can do that.
@keithlowell when you comin to Vegas?
Wow! What a great comedian. Really enjoyed his set, especially since this one literally hit home for me... I live in Sacramento, California and know exactly each and every location in the greater Sacramento area that he mentioned, as well as the particular kinds of people and atmosphere each of these places possess, so his stories carried just a bit of extra nostalgia and familiarity to me. Thank you, Kieth! Watching this truly brought me joy! Keep on truckin' because now I can't wait to see more from you.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I love repping Sacto
Loved this. I saw him in person a few years ago and this just as funny!
I use this special as an asmr device, the stories are truly filled with magic and make me see wonder in this otherwise filled world
Wow! That's quite a compliment. Thanks.
Very, well done i thought. Thanks!
Thanks for the nice comment. Much appreciated.
Used to play hockey sack in the kitchen. You learn a few tricks for being able to plunge a hand into a fryer to retrieve a sack. 😂😂😂
Thanks for the magic
My pleasure.
This is great! Thanks so much, Keith. You're my big find from my trial subscription to Sirius XM. I heard Kentucky Fried on one of the comedy channels, and now I'm deep into your rabbit hole.
That's awesome. Sirius XM has been very good to me.
YO! I remember watching this one. Its a really fun series stories about all his jobs leading up to being a comic! Can't wait to watch again!
Thanks! I hope it's fun the second time too!
@@keithlowell and the third.
This is the kind of special that everybody needs right now. And I love the Warhol style boxes for the set.
Thanks, Edwin! Jason Adair is a rad set designer. He killed it.
Gave this a watch under the recommendation of my good friend Sal Rodriguez and had a good chuckle. Thanks for the laughs Keith 🤘🏻
Absolutely fantastic as well!
Thanks so much
This is golden Lowell, GOLDEN !!!
Every few minutes you sound like Ben Stiller 😁👍
Really? Haven't heard that one before. I've been called Kermit voiced but never Stiller voiced.
That was grrrreat! I love the ending. He, too, made them all children again, like his mentor. I would have played in the bubbles. :)
Yes! Thank you so much! I'm glad the ending got ya and you got it.
@@keithlowell The ending brings tears to my eyes; yep, I get it. :)
I felt less like I was watching a stand up but more like I was a hilarious TED talk and that's how I walked away. Bravo sir. Bravo.
Ha. As long as it was hilarious, I'm good with your take. Thanks!!
IMO, this is one of the greatest standup sets ever. It was so entertaining, funny, engaging, educational, and leaves you feeling something deeper at the end. I loved it. I wish more people would hear it because this is a very funny man.
Wow! Thank you so much for the great comment.
If you'd like to check out another storytelling set, I have a more recent one on this same channel called What I Was Arrested For.
How does this not have 10x the likes???
Well if you tell 1,480 friends...
@@keithlowell I watch A LOT of comedy and this is one of the funniest specials I've seen lately. Thanks for putting it out!!!!
@@MN-tf6lt That's very kind. Thank you
Awesome.
Thank you!
Thanks for this show and all the history behind spike and mike. I discovered the animation festival in the mid 80s at the crest and went every year and was thrilled to be at the beginning of the careers of all the talented animators like marv newman, Allison Snowden, mike judge, brad bird, at the start of their career. Thanks for doing your part in making animation more popular. I look forward to seeing you live next time you perform in Sacramento.
Oh, and dont get arrested before the show again.
Ha ha, thanks. My plan is not to get arrested any more but ... we'll have to wait and see.
Also, be she to check out Animation Outlaws, a documentary telling the whole Spike and Mike story with lots of interviews.
I see you are at watermelon music here in Davis next month. Is that a full show? Or where to see one next?
@@lightningdemolition1964 Yes, I will be doing a full headlining set at that show.
And then I'll be there monthly curating a kick ass comedy show.
ahaha! "3 cigarettes and some tape..." LOL
Yeah. Some time before eventually quitting smoking i discovered French cigarettes which were so strong they were like smoking rope!
@@keithlowell :) I'm a little star-struck. lol :) For real, though. I didn't know there were French cigarettes. We roll our own. I think it's better than store-bought, because of all of the extra chemicals in those. I'm glad you quit, though. Nice job. What was your motivation for quitting?
@@godislove9307 I smoked for 4 years, and spent the last three of those trying to quit. The attempt that actually stuck was when I quit smoking and then got really really sick, like just a monster flu that put me in bed for days, maybe weeks. So that helped me get through the worst of the withdrawals, because I felt so awful anyway. I am so glad I quit.
So so good.
Thank you! Glad ya liked it.
Great show!! I enjoyed all of it!!
…So….What is Charlie Coin’s number? Maybe we can start a few catering orders!!
HA HA! I hear he retired.
Amazing show, this one and the one about your jail experience :D You're a genius. Mike was such a cool guy too.
Thank you so much.
That disks base player from cake did the same thing to my buddy!
Years later they asked him to play guitar for them.
very well done
Thank you very much.
Really excellent!
Thank you!
Great show.
Thank you!
Thanks!
Nice.
Super funny!
Thank You, West.
When goths + Metalheads come togother that = fuckin' loooooove! This dude's pretty funny, and I dig his musical selections and life decisions lol. Kudos to youdos
Thanks! Much appreciated.
I have another special on the channel called What I Was Arrested For if you'd like to see more.
I worked a Togos and managed a health club near there. Midtown Sac was a good place to live.
My father was a Black caddy in the 40s and 50s. He ain lyin.
Brilliant, simple set design. Good to see Jason Adair did it.
What an unexpected delight
Thanks! So glad.
This was amazing!
Thank you! I'm glad you dug it.
I'm an animator. That last part hit me right in the feels.
There is a great documentary about Spike and Mike called Animation Outlaws. Definitely worth checking out. Thanks so much for the comment.
Having lost five out my last six jobs since 2012 (three layoffs and two terminations) I total relate to this. My last employer didn’t even give me the courtesy of firing me or laying me off, but launched a further investigation and never got back to me on a decision if they would terminate me or give me another assignment to another client (security guard). Filed an unemployment claim, and an ethics complaint against HR and my manger (whose negligence got me kicked off a client) to launch an investigation against them😡
Damn. Sorry, to hear. Best of luck to ya.
@@keithlowell There’s a crazy follow up to this story. In disgust with HR, I sent them an email practically begging them to terminate me so my unemployment claim wouldn’t run into issues (haven’t worked in over three weeks without pay; only worked part time). I told them I filed two ethics complaints and sent a letter to a VP of HR about the situation. I ended the email by saying “Your Move”. The next day I found that my ex manager removed my access to the shift scheduling system (which means no more shifts), but the employee portal still says I’m an active employee!
Still no formal word from them. The good news is I retired in 2017 and have done a few part time jobs to supplement my income (I have other sources of income). I figured I’ve suffered enough with employment nonsense (worked on and off since 1970) and have retired for good.
The ethics complaint staff never got back to me and neither did the VP of HR. They’re security guard company with a terrible reputation (they’re all bad; I worked for another firm for 1 full day and quit in the middle of my second day). Decided to either write a novel or a series of short stories about my horrible working life history (both corporate and low wage jobs).
What a beautiful restaurant story, reminds me of when I did the voodoo knife trick with a donner meat knife not realizing it was double bladed ,was lucky I didn't lose all my fingers
Thanks. Glad you got to keep all your fingers! Two thumbs up.
That was surprising and amazingly beautiful.
What a lovely review. Thank you, Zoe.
great work, keith!
Thanks, Myq. I think your work is great also.
Where stand-up comedy meets a TED talk
Ha. I'm gonna go ahead and take that as a compliment.
Funny, smart & tight set🤩
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Chicken fingers anyone 😂😂😂
Ha.
Frying a finger might work.. but... How did the first person find out? And why?
He was a special kind of genius, the kind that usually goes unappreciated.
Watching this was a wonderful experience. Where was it filmed?
At Folsom College, in Folsom, CA.
Very very good bro✊🏽
Thank you!
59:27 self-hiring story is excellent!
Thanks! I was pretty determined. Not sure I'd be able to pull off that level of chutzpa these days.
18:15 I had a teacher tell me when I was 17 "No one ever calls the school to see if you graduated. That would be 50,000 former living students times every time they apply for a job. That would take a staff of 100's of people just to shield those calls." Last week I went to public indoctrination centers.
Introduce a little more magic into the world.
🎩🌍
Super cute
Super thank you.
Gave him a 5 minutes, and not one joke. For some reason there were laughs
I offered each audience member a dollar per laugh. Maybe not my best investment strategy.
Volume is too low
Depending on which device you have, there might be something for which to control the volume.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Congratulations!
As a stand-up fan I'm surprised I hadn't come across Mr. Lowell before - most enjoyable! =]

It’s finger lickin good!
THANKS
Now that's funny --
Thanks, Amos!!
I seriously feel like im listening to a Story about my work career, like almost to a T besides companies. 30+ jobs, Not for Rehire at a major business with many branches, couple of them. But i'd never make it as a comedian.
Well, thanks for letting me have this job without the extra competition.
Never rehire that recording engineer. The audience is louder than the comedian
not the greatest mic set up, but he is good.
The audio is actually really good, you can hear it on Apple Music, or Spotify. I'm not sure what went wrong with the YT upload. Thanks for the compliment though. Glad you enjoyed the comedy.
Him and Tony should have kissed
I mean, we still could...
Yes, Brave People!! caps for no reaSon.
So many words to say simple things... less is more!
I was being paid by the word. Made a bundle.
This is just some dude telling an hour long story about why he can't hold a job. Did not laugh even once. I try to check out different comedians every day. This guy was not funny. Entertaining, yes, but not funny.
I'll settle for entertaining.
@@keithlowelljensen9997 love ya dude. Respect the comment-aratti. Super-funny, in my book. (And entertaining)
@@michaelfoxbrass Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it.
4 minutes in and no laughs :(
Report back at 8 minutes in. I'm dying to know. This is comedy for long attention spans... at first.
@@keithlowelljensen9997 lol I have ADD probably ok sir I will give it another shot!
@@BekOne88_eToro ha, me too! Good luck. And if it turns out it's not your thing, that's okay too. Thanks
@@keithlowell youre welcome! It picked up!
I don't like nor dislike this special because I only watched 30 seconds minus the cringe intro I skipped. The audio is too fuckey.. Audience is 1000% louder than the comedian. Will watch any vids in future if actually edited by someone competent.
Weird. I've not heard these complaints from anyone else, and I'm listening to it now and it sounds fine. The edit went through scrutiny by a number of professionals and it sounded fine to them. This same audio mix plays on Sirius XM daily with no complaints. Can't help but wonder if you've got some wonky equipment?
@@keithlowelljensen9997 They all must have been listening loudly. I had your voice as low as it could go while still being able to hear so as not to wake people. The audience is way louder. Needs normailization. I watch standup often and this is the first time I've had this issue. It's just regular ass monitor speakers.
Only laziest of ppl don't have a job untill 16.
I was a lot younger than that working in a cheese factory.
Ha ha. Get a job, you lazy baby!
OMG this is not funny, just sad
I am happy that I made you sad.
Isn't comedy supposed to be funny?
Pshaw! Funny comedy is so basic.
There are many styles of comedy. Everyone has their preferences.
Oh look at the negative Nancy
You probably the type of person to go to a recorded comedy show sit in front seat and have a big serious face on the whole time cause your to good for his jokes, don't be such a primrose
@@doeboydroid Primrose ... I needed that for my cross word puzzle but couldn't remember .Thanks a lot
Great show.
