- In WORD How to start PAGE NUMBERS on different page. If you need to know how to start page numbers on a different page in WORD other than page 1 or 2 this tutorial show you how. Whether you're writing a report, thesis, dissertation or even a book you often need the page numbers to start a few pages into the document. Page numbers are not really required on a cover page, contents page, acknowledgement or introduction page. IN word, the page number menu simply gives you options to start the number on page one or two, but even then the page numbers will start at number 2 and leave the cover page blank.
The technique in this videos can be used whether you want to start the page numbers on page 3 through to the end of your document.

The channel began all because of a problem I had when I had to insert images into a Word Document. I couldn’t find a way to drag and drop multiple images into a table without them expanding across the page, being cropped or interfering with the rest of the text. It wasn’t until I finally sat down one day, determined to find the solution and developed a way to solve the problem. Having found the problem quite difficult to solve without knowing how to do it I decided to make a You Tube video about it. Never once believing that many people would watch it, let alone be so grateful.
After discovering how helpful a simple tutorial could be I decided to make further videos with the aim of once again helping as many people as possible.

It didnt work. For some reason it creates a new blank page and then only puts the number on the page I click on.

Hi Lisa, I can get page number 1 starting successfully on page 6 of my document but no other numbers appear. There is no number 2,3,4,etc on following pages. Can you help? Thank you.

when I insert page number on the 4th page, it doesn't do the same for the following pages.. I have to manually insert page number again on page 2 for the whole document to be paged.. weirdddd

Did you split your document into sections?
Section 1 and section 2 both have numbers how do I get rid of numbers in section 1?
What if I want to start numbers on page two, as in number 2, skip the 1 on the first page. That's what I received in the instructions for my work but when I try to start on page 2 it creates a separate page.
You should be able to start page numbering from page 2 just by unchecking the 'show number on first page' box on the 'page number' dialogue box.
So maybe you can help. I use different odd / even page headers and want to add page numbers ( starting at page 4) but can't seem to make it work with the odd /even header as the footer becomes odd / even too .. any ideas?
Hi. Make sure you've linked the footers together (not unlinked). You should be able to customise the footers independently of the headers.

I'm writing a book and page 1 will be the first page of chapter one .. which is page 5 if you get my drift. each time I set uo the page numbers on page 5 it adds a number to earlier pages? frustrating. It took a while but I have the odd/ even header part working just fine ( title odd / author even)

Thank you for your video. Let me ask this, I had inserted page numbers and they were fine until I had to move txt around on my 17 doc. I removed the page numbers and when they were reinserted, my page numbers read, 1 2 3 4 2 3 4 5 etc.. I can not remove those numbers to get it in the correct numerical order. Suggestions??.
Have you checked your 'sections'? You may have divided your document up in such a way that the page numbers are moving?
Where am I going wrong tried two different tutorials and still keep getting the same issue, it automatically ticks different first page, is this the issue?
