I knew almost all of these, but I never would've thought of using a bookmark to get the page number of the end of the document regardless of sections (this would also allow you to put an index or appendix after the last counted page). Glad I watched to the end.

Unfortunately, Microsoft changes the ribbon every time they update the program. So the version that YOU are demonstrating doesn't seem to work in newer (or older) versions. Would be very helpful if you mentioned what version of Word you're using before you get started. And what platform (Windows? Mac?)

Please can you guide how I can add a page number to the bottom part of page margins instead of the right or left side? If you havexa special first page that you numbers 0, then the number of pages field will count that as well, so the last page will be page 23 of 24. This can be solved by changing til field code behind til number.

I fixed it by opening my document on the word app
You have to sign in to your school email IN the word document app in laptop

Where do you find format page numbers in word 365? In the page number drop down, there is everything except for format page numbers. double clicking the header does not have it either.

Like when I write on a sub header said 1.3.1 Introduction,
and when I write it on the other section like in 1.5.2 Calculation, Example: To calculate this formula or ..., you must follow (1.3.1).
when I click on (1.3.1) on pdf, it takes me to the 1.3.1 section automatically like with the table content.

Hi Kevin. My Word (v16.77.1) doesn't have the same menu dropdown from the "Insert" ribbon icon that yours does. My only options are "Page Numbers", "Format Page Numbers" and "Remove Page Numbers" - although the latter one is grayed-out for some reason. The document insists on making every page "1" with whatever I do with the limited tabs I have. Any thoughts on this? I've even removed the footer and tried to start again, but nothing changes from what I mention above. It's very frustrating! Thanks for any thoughts you have on this.

A very concise and clearly explained video so thank you for that. However you didn't explain the one thing I'm struggling to do - insert page numbers *without* them being put in a header or footer. Is that even possible? I just want the number on the right of each page on its own. Surely there's an option for that?

Hi, I'm trying to do this but I'm using the online version of word instead of the app and to comes out slightly different then this. How do I do it on the online version?
How about appendices where you want an "A-" in front of the number and for it to be captured in the TOC?
what if you have different margin sizes for each page?
