I couldn't locate the spot for adding a manager in web outlook. I added my own manager and checked again on the web and there is still nothing showing? I do have admin privileges. Any thoughts?
Spent about half a day making a busted-ass looking org chart.... then watched the first 4 minutes of this video and made a new one that looked a thousand times better. Thanks!
Right on time! Assignment due in 12 hours😅😨 Do you know the reason for Ms Excel consistently freezing with windows 11? (Once a cell is clicked to enter a character it keeps looping-non responsive message) and has been like this for over 24 hours....
Haha you're still the boss. I'm trying to access the templates in Visio on the web but there are none for org charts. When I search for organization it says there are more hits than are being shown to me, and as I click to read more it says I need a Visio subscription 2 to use org charts.
Thank you Kevin. Great video. I have been doing charts recently in MS Word and struggling with adding shapes etc. Didn’t realise there were so many options and loved the shortcut at the start of the video of simply doing a list of names with indents and then copying into Smart Art. I often look at your videos but don’t comment. Full of respect for you in your decision to focus on your channel and leave your position at Microsoft (and you did a video on why you did this). I hope this gamble is paying off for you and your family. Keep up the good work and for those of you reading this comment, don’t forget to subscribe and give a like to the video!!!!
Hi Kevin. I liked using Smart Art with Word or Excel the best. No special add ins or privileges needed. Plus I'm already very familiar with those applications.
Hello thank you for this ! Question: which option would you suggest to great an organization chart that has 20-25 roles ? I’m writing a paper on Sephora organizational structure and need to create an infographic for it .
Those work fine and adjust their sizes in a smart way, are easily editable etc., but after a certain amount of members in a given org chart, they show some of the weaknesses, like how limiting their layouts are and how poor their space usage is in favour of the wow factor. I liked the fast click away when the 2/5 visio rating on the store was visible :D
Thanks Kevin! I have been waiting for Visio desktop app to get loaded, but I didn't realize work accounts have access to the online version until watching your video.
Thanks! Good audio is the most important for a video. Used a boom mic (Sennheiser MKH-50) positioned close to my mouth just out of frame, have acoustic panels on my walls, and then edit the audio (e.g., compressor, equalizer, de-esser, noise reduction, set levels appropriately).
Why is the 365 org chart not more available as a full size view like the visio example? It seems like you need to use 3rd party tools to get a better visualization
Kevin, it would be interesting to know how to create an interactive org chart in SharePoint using the Org Chart Webpart. I understand this can be done using Azure directory, but perhaps the Kevin Cookie Company's IT staff doesn't have the capacity to populate the needed manager information in Azure. So could a small department leader who would like to impress CEO Patti Fernandez create this SharePoint Organization Chart webpart using a SharePoint List instead? Or would they still need someone with admin privileges to help them with configuration? As you know, the Kevin Cookie Company has lots of SharePoint functionality locked down for lower level employees for security or control purposes, so if these lowly employees in distant departments can do things themselves with less IT support, that often is more successful. Thoughts?
Sorry Kevin but this wasn't helpful. I'm looking for more details. Like, if i'm not looking to create this via only text, how do lock my page so that the smartart doesn't move every time I add an element?
Very informative and useful video. Thank you for sharing. Kevin, not related to org chart, but how did you come up with a Yellow circle frame around you for recording? I have gone through the obs videos, but I would like to know how to change the rectangular frame to a circular one while recording using OBS. Looking forward to your help here. Many thanks! :)
This is the epitome of excellence. I recently enjoyed a similar book, and it was the epitome of excellence. "The Hidden Empire: Inside the Private Worlds of Elite CEOs" by Adam Skylight
Good video, thank you. How do you re-create the sub-level seen on 2:33 (second bullet point is not quite a level, so for example this person would not be a line manager, but is still under the one above)? Thanks.
i hate office bullshit. i hate excel, word, all of them, i got a promotion which was 100% excel driven and i was in hell, i so under estimated my ass lol. what a lesson this has been for me. Excel is my enemy, i hate everything about.
Under “Format Shape” the “do not auto fit” is grayed out! I changed on master slide, but when I go back to the page it’s grayed out again. Any thoughts? Great video!
Spooky timing as I’ve been doing just this using AD at work, we used power shell to update staff contact details in AD. Haven’t tried linking it with Visio though will definitely give it a go now!
Great video and I plan to experiment. One question - I want photos included - the only way I saw was one of the Smart Art templates - can photos be added to the other methods?
This should be fun to find those with leadership qualities for promotion. Get everyone to do it and fill in what they think are the duties, job-scope, responsibilities, accountability, delegated-powers, authorised-functions, transparency-accountability, authorisation-responsibility, delegation-accountability(your boss lazy), ... accounting standards of checks-and-balances applied to organisational-structure. Same for military to government to social-circles to in-game session-instance...
For each situation(simple and elegant is better boss than contrived - need more than grade-school diagrams or theories - monkey business) = normal weekday = friday = weekends = non-working hours
None of them is perfect. I like the simplicity of the Powerpoint option but it's only good for the name. I need Job title too. The Visio Online version looks great but it's manual entry only so not great for keeping it up to date and scales terribly. Just imagine keeping this chart up to date with 100+ people. The Visio Online in Excel one is really good but it's limited by the handful of free templates unless you buy the very expensive Premium version of Visio. It's also fiddly to use and prone to breaking (I use this method most often so I have experience with this,) The Azure Active Directory option is only good for the direct staff of the organisation you're in. For example, if you have an org with a lot of freelancers, you won't be able to add them if the prg doesn't have a user account for them.
Hi Kevin! First of all, thanks for updating these useful videos. May you teach us how to solve the blue screen death, I did all of solutions from Google and RUclips but I can't solve my problem. I do anything But Isn't work.
I watched your tutorial on creating an org chart. The version I liked best was to create in power point and in MicroSoft Office basic. I like to create the style that best fits our department.
Wow, It saves lots our time when boss asks to prepare organization chart. I like the excel add in linking with Manger's ID this is really dynamic. Really a cool feature. Thanks a lot from Chennai Kevin for another awesome video.
R Silva ~ If you have an HP printer, you open your “Control Panel” and double-click on “Devices and Printers” then double-click on your printer it will open several options that can be selected. Of those options, double-click on the option named “HP Printer Status and Alerts”. The screen that opens, in the “Known Printers” window, will list your printer. Double-click on your printer and the next screen will show the status of all the ink cartridges of that printer. If you are not using an HP printer, I would think you would still be able to access the information you want to see. Good Luck, Fred
My bad, it's your standard bulleted list. On the Home tab under Paragraph, you can set it to a bulleted list. You can then use Tab to demote, Shift+Tab to promote, and Shift+Alt+Up/Down arrow to move people up and down. Hope that helps!

I have helpdesk admin rights, it is suffice to pull out data from azure directory ?
I want to know how I can extract videos from the usb to movie maker on windows.

Visio is best

What's the difference between PowerShell and Command Prompt?
This just made my life/work easier!! Definitely try the typing and then pasting like he did in the video, makes the org chart so neat and simple.

Great tip, I've always done these manually but will definitely be trying this out.
Same here, it's also been manual for me. This looks way more efficient!
Yep. Manual is painful. Thank you!
Thank you for valuable tips. Very helpful for me ;-)

Great to see the exports Excel with Visio with Office 365 company structure.
Appreciate this video, this helped me decide how to do our Org chart.
Thank you 😊
Love it again.
Kevin has my vote to be President!
Thanks
Can you add a column to the data table in excel, such as employee salary, and it shows up on the Visio org chart?

For Visio, Microsoft has changed it to only for organization and school use, but my school disabled the store option so I can't install the plug-in.
Kevin, you are exactly what is right with free content on youtube. thanks for always saving me some time
Great video Kevin, ty! I remember when you were still at MS and you did not have 1M subs yet. I'm happy to see it's going well for you, and us!

Hi Will, i have been trying to connect AD directly to Visio. Do you happen to know if that is possible?
Greetings
@@SuperTaps1 no sorry. We found when updating the AD it led to 365, whether through Teams or Delve being much more useful for showing org structure
why did you leak all your manager's info on an RUclips video man? Someone is getting fired
Great video and I plan to experiment. One question - I want photos included - the only way I saw was one of the Smart Art templates - can photos be added to the other methods?
Very helpful. I was very embarrassed at how bad I am at excel lol
Thanks for the video. Is there an option to reverse/flip the chart in Word like there is Visio (to go from bottom to up instead)?

I liked Smart art way because vision add in is turned off by company admin in excel.
Hi, thanks so much for this "multi app" video. Helped me no end!!!
Hi Kevin!
First of all, thanks for updating these useful videos.
May you teach us how to solve the blue screen death,
I did all of solutions from Google and RUclips but I can't solve my problem. I do anything But Isn't work.
Blue screen usually includes an error code that will help you track down the specific issue. There are many potential causes for the screen to appear.
Thanks again Sir Kevin!... for the very informative video...

Thanks so much! I finally know how to make a family tree in Word.
Really Useful!
Nice. But what we really need, anyone with a printer, is an app to determine actual ink levels. Those cartridges are sold at liquid gold prices.
R Silva ~
If you have an HP printer, you open your “Control Panel” and double-click on “Devices and Printers” then double-click on your printer it will open several options that can be selected.
Oh 1:03 u did not explain how to create the list in the first place. How to do the bullets and how to intend the names, I guess thats important?
My bad, it's your standard bulleted list. On the Home tab under Paragraph, you can set it to a bulleted list. You can then use Tab to demote, Shift+Tab to promote, and Shift+Alt+Up/Down arrow to move people up and down. Hope that helps!
Hey, thank you Kevin. I liked your way of presentation 🙂
