The best thing I ever attended was a Paiste clinic with Carl and Danny Carey. It was SUCH a privilege and I wish it happened more frequently. Absolutely legend.
I saw him with Asia back in 1983 on the Alpha tour. He had the Premier stainless steel kit- double bass, 4 single headed rack toms, 2 floors, 2 tympani behind him, the Simmons drums in the shape of a man’s head, all Paiste cymbals and 2 giant symphonic gongs. One of the best drum solos I have ever seen. What an amazing drummer.
I had the honor at 13 years old to sneak into the New Haven Arena in Connecticut and climbed onto the metal support trusses and was perched directly over your left shoulder in the ceiling and I was mesmerized by what I saw...Alright,at 68 years old what can I say...young and dumb...I thank you from the bottom of my heart for a night that has lived with me through my life...absolutely amazing !!!! Thank you Carl and all my years of interest in drumming is due to you...Unfortunately my set is the dash and steering wheel in my 93 F-150 but man it's my saviour....Just a minute to my tunes and some beats...Thank you brother...Friggin' Amazing....

I think Palmer and Peart are the only 2 drummers that could play each others music. John Bonham is considered the best ever by many...why because of his triplets. Something that Palmer & Peart both did easily. 🤷♂Carl has always been underrated AFA the greatest drummers ever or top 100 drummers. That rag, Rolling Stone Mag, doesn't even have him in the top 100 the last time I checked, but they have Shelia E there. 🤦♂
Hi Carl, got to watch you live when Asia stopped in Grand Rapids. I worked the show, and watched you from behind Howe's amp. What an inspiration, all the way back to Arthur Brown.
I love anything Carl Palmer. He is my idol and absolute favorite drummer. I was able to shake his hand and tell him what a big influence he has had on me after a ELP concert. He was so nice to all the fans.
I'll second that I attended a Carl Palmer ELP Legacy concert in Buffalo, N.Y. back in 2019. Bought a Ludwig Venus Carl Palmer Signature snare drum at that concert had the opportunity to meet Carl at the 'meet and greet' after the show he was an absolute gentleman gave me tuning tips and posed for a photo with me holding the drum it was a great moment and that drum is one of my treasured possessions. An amazing talent and more so a nice person.
At one time this man sat on top of the world! ELP was one of the world’s most in demand concert draws. In spite of the critics relentlessly spewing rubbish about them. A gentleman of the highest order who has maintained an incredibly high standard!

Wow, Such an amazing talent. Just go back and listen to Brain Salad Surgery, blows me away, also with the sound he gets out of those. I love how play play with the enthusiasm of a kid having a blast that never grew up. Awesome!

Holy shit!!… that’s what a drum solo looks like. I did not see the shirt removal mid drum solo coming… My man said “Hold up, it’s getting hot back here.” Didn’t miss a beat, and kept it moving. No wonder they played the whole solo in this rig rundown. Maybe one of my favorites so far.
To think I saw him at the age of 21..and now he's 72..and still fit and playing very remarkable. All the best to him on his musical endeavors. Long live the ELP legacy 🙏. 🙏. PS I believe Ringo Starr bought his first huge stainless steel drum set with the etched hunting scenes on it...if that may be true..!!!

Steel drums are still quite musical. Certainly louder with more attack. Though just about any drum is a good drum. :) Glad to see Carl out still jamming and playing.
Why is that interesting?? 🤨 Actually that's the same head I've been using on my snare for ages, the "Ambassador" head is terrible on the snare imo, the Emperor head is perfect on a Supraphonic or Black Beauty
@@m42037 In the 60 years that I played drums, I have had many snares including the Supraphonic and Black beauty, and I have always used ambassadors on all of them, and a lot of drummers I know do the same. I think the emperor is too heavy for a snare, I have always thought they were better suited for floor toms and even bass drums, but it really comes down to what feels right to the individual.

I guess Carl doesn't know what he's doing or John Bonham or Ian Paise or me and I'm sure countless drummer's I haven't mentioned otherwise the head would be obsolete. We tighten the head down we don't play Emperor loose, Ambassador sounds terrible compared to Emperor. When I was a beginner I used Ambassador on everything, I didn't know that a wrinkled head meant it needs to be tightened not replaced also 🤣

I cut my teeth on all those drummers that you mention and more, Like I said, I tried Emperor on the floor toms, and once on the bass, they were ok, but for what I like to hear, they were too thick, heavy, whatever you want to call it. I was always able to get the sound I wanted from Ambassadors. It is really what works best for the individual, so if you prefer the Emperors, thats great! Drum on my man.

This man left Ludwig because they wouldn't make him stainless drums, made his own stainless drums, and when Ludwig made stainless drums, he returned. This, ladies and gentlemen, is what you called being legendary!
He'd also sworn to himself to never play Zildjian again when he still was very young because they'd refused to replace a cymbal he'd just bought and which broke after only very little use. He'd shown that broken cymbal to Bob Zildjian himself at an event, who just told Carl, "You should buy a new cymbal!"
That is an original Hammerax Crash Course, I still have mine that I bought. They then retooled and changed designs... The original sounds better... I don't know what has happened to Hammerax since... But I'm glad I still have that stack! It sounds amazing! Dude is the same age as Steve Ferrone, they're both 72... Drumming is beyond a wonderful way to stay in shape! These guys are still going full tilt in their 70's!

I did a gig in Hungary back in 2008. Mr Palmer was on the same bill. I made the mistake of trying to have a brief chat with him back stage whilst a band was playing. He couldn’t hear me properly and was not in the mood for small talk. Was a shame as he was a childhood drumming hero of mine. I was probably a bit over enthusiastic! Oh well. They do say never meet your heroes.

@@m42037 I can atest to that, being 73 myself. I’m seeing him in March and he’ll turn 75. Saw him (and Keith and Greg) in April ‘71 at the Spectrum in Philly. He’d just turned 21 years old. I was aghast at how someone could drum like him. Amazing he’s still doing it with excellence.
