Canna, since I found your channel in late December, we have paid off 1/3 of our debt! We're right on track to be debt free by the end of the year! I am so thankful for your videos. We've been getting a little burnt out the past few weeks. All the sacrifices we've been making to pay down that debt is getting a little frustrating, but every Monday when I wake up (I live in the US) and see your videos, they give me just the boost I need to keep going. You're a blessing!
K. Ems hi! Gosh I am so sorry that I only just saw this comment! I am so proud and impressed!!! Simply incredible! Hopefully you are almost debt free now and on your way to building wealth and creating a much more harmonious financial future!!! So happy to read this!!!!! xCC
Dear Canna an amazing video. I grew up in poverty and always felt limited, being bullied by more fortunate children. It took a while for me to break off my mindset on how I thought about money. Now I see it as a tool and figured out a minimalistic life which I am comfortable with. Nowadays I have a surplus and am using that by saving up to built a house. Your videos have also helped me towards my journey :) Thank You
This mental poverty thing is really, really true. My bro used to work in some minimum wage jobs, and the way some of these folks handled money is amazing. They blew money they did not have on useless shit, and he said their attitude towards money was radically different then how people in our family handled money. I'm glad my parents (especially my Dad) taught how to handle money properly.
+Lady Catfish Thank you for sharing your brothers experience... I am so pleased to hear that you have a good role model in terms of how to use your money. xCC
+Lady Catfish I have a friend who owns a business, and some of the people that work for them literally ask for their checks early, because they blow the money over the weekends. That would be such a sad and meaningless existence.
Susanna Holdren Irresponsible too. And worse yet, once it is over, they will demand and expect someone to bail them out. And that leads to more problems in turn..
Okay Cana I took your advice and re-watched this video. My daughter love of my life ran away 5 weeks ago. She is 14. She is safe but she does have mental illness due to her father abandoning us when she was 6, and now at 14 she is very angry. So all these years raising her I could only work while she was in school. I gave her all the love from my heart... Plus all her needs and put myself last. She is now in a facility where I'm hoping she will get the help that no matter how hard I tried as a 55 year old single mother, I could not give her. I am now in counseling for ME. I am small as you can see, I have not left this house for myself in 2 years. That is why I am stuck. Now I need to work on getting Susan back so I can accomplish my financial goals. Please pray for us. Thank you for being such a wonderful person and showing that you care. Always writing back to me. I heard of a job on line looked into it and will start soon. It is not much but will help me put away at least 50 a month in a savings for now. Then once I have my 1k emergency fund I will start paying off my small debt. I do not have a large amount of debt but having non at all will give me piece of mind. After that is done my plan is to pay off my home. I can not live with the stress anymore, with my poor girl going through this....... I can have a heart attack. So I am taking it one hour at a time, one day at a time, and praying my mental plan I will be able to follow. Thank you darling for caring. XOXOXOX..... Susan
I often show your videos to my mum (a 57 year old woman with very unhealthy financial habits), this one I think really hit home for her. Thank you Canna x
Love your message here. Many years ago.. like 50!... I read a small book called Tally's Corner. It dealt with how one's Time Line ... how long one can WAIT for gratification of a desire.. is. Those with a short time line, who need instant gratification, end up in the CYCLE of poverty. It became clear to me... at a very early age, that poverty is not so much a lack of money but a mental attitude about money. PS. I bought my first house at the age of 20. I started saving at the age of 15. Focus, focus, focus! ; )
You make my day lady. I completely related to the sofa story! I purchased an antique sofa with the thought of having it reupholstered. Needless to say, the cost to cover it was $2,000 and that did not include the fabric. The sofa is very small as well. I love the topic, so informative. It's never too late to make a positive change.
Hey Canna! My name is Joe and I'm a small business owner. I dont know how many men you have following you but your videos have inspired me. Working for yourself can be exhausting but bitter sweet. Feast and famine etc... Your videos have helped me for those times and I inspired me to shift funds else where. Thanks for your support and positive influence!
This was the best video I've seen yet. I've been talking about this issue for ages to anyone who will listen but it seemed as if no-one understood what was going on in my head. It's definitely a mindshift that is needed and your advice is so incredibly helpful. Thankyou so so much. Feels so good to be validated in the fact that it is actually a thing and more importantly that I can overcome it. Ngā mihi nunui ki a koe :)
In our household we call this 'poverty consciousness' which is abundant in extended family, I find a lot of it is a cycle of blame, self-entitlement and martyr syndrome. Thanks for your videos, I've just subscribed 🙂
Hi, just to say THANK YOU, you have given me the courage to finally face the reality of my/our debt situation that we have had for the last 20 years and isn't changing, and to take control. It may take the next 20 years but we will get there, probably just in time for me to retire! Thank you and keep the tips and powerful encouragement/affirming content coming as it is so very helpful - blessings to you and yours x
Oh Samantha, what a gorgeous comment to read this morning. Thank you so much and I am so happy that you are taking back the control to break down that debt your in... you will get there, it may be a tough road ahead but you will feel incredible when you have paid it off. xCC
Love this. Its crazy how many people come into my branch applying for loans to consolidate their debts. If only these people had watched your videos Canna or knew someone as wise and influential as you. It is never too late to learn :)
+leccah yep that sounds very familiar!! Credit cards and personal loans. Your mum is awesome, so many peoples parents are themselves struggling to get out of debt. Better to avoid it at all costs :)
+Azaria Bell I know it is frightening and one of the worst tactics to take in order to get out of debt. Thank you for your comment and ongoing support! xCC
I love your videos- I'm so happy I found your channel. I have implimented your envelope savings system and I feel more in charge of my goals and not as stressed :) thank you for the idea!
That's wonderful Sarah, I am so glad my videos have helped you and I love that you're now using the envelope system... I think it makes a huge difference to managing and controlling expenses. xCC
Great video! You're an inspiration. I'm 22 and my parents have been always in debt and so stressed about it! I don't want to repeat the same mistake in the future and now I try to help them change their mind. Keep posting your videos and thank you for sharing your experience
Here's by far the best method to start making money on the internet as a "newbie": *Money94 .Com* I suggest you to give this a try if you aren't making enough money currently. “In your life, always be like a driver who runs the car not just a car.”
I havent really thought too much about money but my brother is having lots of money issues and its making me scared but I want to learn how to handle money well before I end up like my brother or at least know how to help him get out of that situation asap.. so thanks for the advice!
Great video Canna. Thanks for sharing. Could you recommend any podcasts that would help me on my journey to financial freedom. Or other RUclips videos. Thanks.
Hi Canna! You know I love your videos. I think your videos would be more powerful if you would add text to your words. For example, placing a pop-out with a short sentence for each of your tips at the moment you mention them. Hope this was helpful! xx
Sure! If you think it will help people! I always get a little worried if having text is too distracting but I will keep this in mind for future videos. I also try and add lots of content to my video description as well, so definitely check that out! xCC
Hey Canna! Absolutely love your channel, especially the videos about time efficiency and minimalism! Came across the channel looking for financial advice and got a lot more :) Just wondering if you can tell me where your top is from? I have a stripey white basic tee on my shopping list and the fit looks amazing!
Thank you, Canna. Such good advice- how did you decide to be a financial expert? Also, I'd love to see how you organise your day and particularly your cloth s. . You have such stlyle, I know you are a minalimist but how do you kep your clothes so you can make sure yo use them all? Do you have any tips on how you create your looks? Can I see into your wardrobe? xx😊👠👗👛🕶
+nixynox1 Hi there, I will be doing a video soon on how to keep organise your wardrobe.... I also have a video My Story which explains a bit about me and how I got into finance, here is the link for you ruclips.net/video/55i0PDiiWGQ/видео.html xCC
I love your videos and so glad I found you! I've been struggling with spending my "sink fund" money.. Even thought I have set it aside for these purposes I find it difficulty to part with the money on non-necessities (clothing, car maintenance, travel) .. Fear of not having enough after I spend it... I thought about setting thresholds but I don't know if that solves the fear.. Do you have any advice?
+Toni Vincent I believe that at times, fear can repel money. So many things in life are about balance, and as long as you still have some savings and other investments behind you, spending some money on yourself is a nice caring thing to do for your self worth…so don’t be too hard on yourself and maybe give yourself rewards for achieving certain financial goals. xCC
HI! I love and appreciate your videos. I am in the process of saving for a life account. I have a small bit of money already in my life account, but would like to know how much is a good amount to have? Also, I tend to get a plan together to pay off credit card debt, start making progress, AND THEN see something amazing to buy and the plan goes in the DITCH! Any tips on how I can stop allowing that to happen? Thanks! Brandi
+Brandi N Company Hi Brandi, that's wonderful that you are saving for a life account. How much you require in your life account all depends on your financial situation and what would make you feel comfortable and less stressed if an unexpected financial emergency were to arise. There are so many aspects to factor in for example your living situation, do you have children or planning to, are you in a relationship and so on. In terms of credit card debt, have you looked through my video library? there are quite a few videos on tips of how to control your expenses for example How to Use a Credit Card Safely ruclips.net/video/1aBp0pHHG7g/видео.html... The fact that you have recognised what you are doing wrong is the first step, now you need to implement strategies to control those spending habits. Firstly I would do a budget and any left over savings should go to paying of your credit card debt immediately... I wouldn't allow myself to buy something if I still have debt because the viscous cycle will never go away and could possibly become worse. I hope this helps, if you need anymore information please let me know. xCC
Hi Canna. My partner and I share a credit card to take advantage of Frequent Flyer points by paying for day to day items on it and then paying it off straight away. It'd be great if you could do a video on how to budget when you're sharing expenses. For example, I find it easy to manage my own budget, but it becomes more difficult to monitor finances when there are 2 people doing the spending.
What can you tell a woman ( me) who has been a stay at home mom for 16 years, with no college degree? My hubby has been supportive financially, but I would like to do something on my own, problem is I can illy get a job that pays minimum wage for the most part, I feel like a complete loser😩
+mirsjaan you know, my hubby does that for us, we paid off our mortgage and he saves quite a bit, like 40-50% of our income, I just feel like he does it all and I don't bring anything to the table! Lol I want to be a part of the contributing
+kelli loves3 Sounds like a loving and kind husband. I suppose you look after the home/kids? That's a job in itself :-) You are contributing. Maybe you could volunteer, start learning how to fix things around the house, go back to school? I know how important it is to feel "useful" - though again, I am sure you already contribute a great deal.
+kelli loves3 There are plenty of successful people out there with little or no education. Maybe have a think about what you are passionate about, what you are good at boing and can work with your role of being a mother and maybe start a part time business? Working for yourself is an incredibly empowering thing to do! xCC
+Mia Cartagena LOVE The Law of Attraction, and I really believe in it, amazing things have happened when I pay attention and acknowledge this powerful principal….I spend most mornings after my meditation doing some visualisation work and self reflection…xCC
I seem to remember that in one of your videos, you had mentioned you are a minimalist. To be honest, you are not really a minimalist... You have a *lot* of stuff, it seems. Lots of handbags, a bunch of paintings, etc.. No offense meant, but just pointing it out..
+Lady Catfish No offence taken... I actually don't consider myself having things in my life that I do not value, enjoy or appreciate. I own what I need... I do take a minimalist approach to my wardrobe including handbags and shoes, I don't have many of these items at all! I give away or sell what I don't use and the items left in my cupboard are what I use on a daily basis for example I own one work handbag that I use 5-6 days a week, 2 evening bags and 2 casual bags. Perhaps this may seem excessive to some I don't know but I use them all and all the time otherwise they wouldn't last long in my cupboard. As for my paintings, I wasn't aware that owning wall art meant that you aren't a minimalist... I really cherish my paintings and they serve the purpose of making me happy because some of them in particular hold a lot of meaning in my life and this is why they are specially placed in my home so I can see them everyday. xCC
Sugar Mamma I see.. Well, I guess if you use the stuff, then ok. I feel 5 bags is excessive, but hey, that's just me! Your paintings make you that happy, huh.. Cool. I don't really appreciate art that much. I like collecting gold and silver coins, and looking at them from time to time. So pretty. And history too! Different tastes, I guess :-)
+Lady Catfish I don't really consider it time consuming because I appreciate and value my subscribers support and feedback... I figure if they have time to comment then I should make the effort to try and respond when I can :) Ps I love that you collect coins... like you said, if it makes you happy then that is the most important thing. xCC

+Mia Cartagena LOVE The Law of Attraction, and I really believe in it, amazing things have happened when I pay attention and acknowledge this powerful principal….I spend most mornings after my meditation doing some visualisation work and self reflection…xCC
There was survey done and they say Millenials are putting more into retirement than Gen.Xers and Baby boomers.Lets go Millenials!!!
Daniella Moreno oh wow!! I would love to see the survey report! Do you remember where you read about it? xCC
I heard about it on Dave Ramsey he was speaking about it I'm actually one of his guess was talking about it
I seem to remember that in one of your videos, you had mentioned you are a minimalist.
Sugar Mamma On a separate note, you take the effort to respond to all comments on You Tube? Isn't that time consuming for you?
+Lady Catfish I don't really consider it time consuming because I appreciate and value my subscribers support and feedback... I figure if they have time to comment then I should make the effort to try and respond when I can :)
Ps I love that you collect coins... like you said, if it makes you happy then that is the most important thing. xCC
Sugar Mamma Wow, you are really cool. I'm gonna enjoy watching your videos more, for sure. :)
