Hi Canna, thanks to your encouragement I set myself the goal of being rid of credit card debt AND having the equivalent amount saved up somewhere so I wouldn't have to keep ending up in credit card debt..and I did it! Thank you…I never thought I could because I don't earn a salary but freelance. Now..to tackle the concept of investing, again, something I've never done before.

I'm so thankful I came across your work and your channel via Chloe. I studied business and finance in university, and yet even after I graduated, my personal finances are a mess. I've made some big life changes, including job changes, international moves, marriage, divorce, and a new apartment. Credit card debt is exactly as you said: shameful, embarrassing, and I can't seem to get out of it. Your video was so empowering. It was everything I needed to hear, and I feel like I can trust your experience. I'm going to put everything you said in this video into action. In 6 months (maybe even sooner!), I hope to be debt-free. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Step 7 close your accounts. Call the card company and close the accounts. Then ask them for a new arrangement with the primary goal of lowering or eliminating interest. This will make your monthly payments more effective as all or most will go towards the principal. If you want to keep some, keep the oldest ones to maintain a payment history on the credit report. Some creditors will just offer a lower interest for the asking and some will ask if your in a hardship and ask some basic financials.

You're lucky to have found this so young! I love my degree and it can get you into an industry (mines biological sciences) but I would recommend being clever about it and not jumping into uni straight away for suuure. Most times if you're vigilant you can get into ANY industry without a degree first...get it later if you want to ADVANCE. I wish I'd known that. Ds get degrees but degrees don't necessarily get jobs lol.

This is so helpful thank you. I am from the UK and my hubby and me have rented for over 6 yrs but now want to buy. House prices are sky high at the mo and therefore so are the deposit amounts and because of renting it is near on impossible. My mum has offered for us to move into hers for a year or so to save which is amazing but first we have a few thousand to clear on CC before we can start saving. Have started selling lots of stuff on ebay (we have to downsize anyway as moving into mums!) and from now any extra cash even if it is £10 or £5 will go on clearing that debt so when we live at mums, most of the time is spent saving for a house. Great videos! Keep them coming!! :) xx

All of this resonates with me. It makes so much sense for me. You're so right, if I consolidate, I will be in double trouble, guaranteed, and super stressed out, because my mindset will not have changed. I also like the idea of paying the smallest debt first. I think I would find it really empowering to realise I AM in control of my situation and I am perfectly capable of getting of debt. Sometimes I tell myself "what's the point, I'll never get out of debt". That's because I try to tackle the worst problem first and give up even before I've really tried. I will implement these tips from now on. I think they will help. Thank you so much!

I stepped out of dept with YNAB (wich is a budget software, wich is "teaching how to budget). Budgeting is a key and could (i want to say should) be step 1. I didn't cut my credit card, i paid them, i didn't used them. Cutting them, FOR ME, was like saying to myself : you can't learn / you can't hold yourself from using it so i'll make sure you don't use it. I once throw weed in a trash to force me to stop, and it didn't work. BUT, cutting a credit card or throwing something in the trash CAN help you if events turns on a good timing for you, but might not be the solution for everyone. I wish everyone to be a grown adult with money, cause it can be a great thing (not the best world but...). Thank you for your video! I'm sure you are helping a lot of people out there! :) BTW: I quit weed and quit dept in the same time. Sometimes, it's all about an ultimate choice you have to make inside, but too afraid to do it. Trust in yourself, Trust in your dreams and a lot of pushing FARER your self-imposed limits. :)

Remember that by far the #1 stealer of wealth is car payments. After a car payment, a phone with a big data plan, and tv payments(cable/dish) most people easily hand over $12,000 per year in hard earned money to pay for stuff they can go without. Very often it's not so much of an insurmountable income problem but a very fixable outgo problem. It takes focus and sacrifice.

The new reality for many responsible consumers is that income drops while expenses either stay the same or increase (example insurance rates increase).

I'm getting married in August and I've got a list of vendors that need to get paid off before the wedding. I've paid for any initial deposits already but I'm overwhelmed with the final balance due. I've got a "Life Account" that I'm getting great interest from. Can you suggest if its a good idea to start paying my vendors in installments or do the deposit lump sums 1 month - 2weeks prior to wedding date? Please do a video on budgeting on special occasions. engagement, weddings, holidays

Call the credit card company & tell them the card has been "lost" & you need a replacement with a different #. Keep an eye out and intercept the mail. Call & activate the card. Once it's activated, the old # he's been using will become void/inactive. Then you can hide or cut up the new card.

Hi Sugar Mamma prepaid cards are not prepaid credit cards. there an option instead of cash, debit or credit there just prepaid cards they don't build credit.
    there meant to purchase items.
I still use cash to at certain merchants. cash is wonderful .

Hey Canna! Loved the vid! Just a quick question! So I'm almost 20 now and I am studying full time and working part time as well. I live away from home so I'm paying all my own bills and rent on top of that. I do struggle sometimes to manage my finances and I am currently a little bit in debt! I was wondering if you think it's worth seeing a financial advisor at my age and in my position and whether investing my money in a financial advisor now would benefit my position in the future?

I love this video. Thank you for the tips. I have a similar case as the girl who commented below. I am a full time student and full time worker. It is extremely difficult to manage my money. I have so many expenses and bills. Please do a video in regards to managing your money, and/or making more money while in college. I feel like I do not have enough money to spare for leisure activities or shopping etc.

Thanks so much for these tips! Like many of the other commenters, I am currently a student with a very limited income, so paying off my credit card has been taking me a lot longer than I expected it would!
I am also getting ready to finish graduate school in a few months, and because I live in America I have only six months after graduation before I have to begin making payments on my student loans (which are substantial). I know that you are based in Australia so you might not have a ton of info on how things work over here, but I was wondering if you could make a video about the best way to approach paying off student loan debt? Thank you again for providing us with this free advice!

Credit card debt has been such a shame of mine. I racked up $9000 in less than a year and had been paying so much interest. About 3 minutes into your video I decided to find an extra $100 to pay off my debt. I already paid $200 this month which surpasses the minimum requirement but any extra amount helps.
My CC debt is $8700 now... still horrendous and it feels like $100 is nothing in that size but I'm hoping once I get to $8000 I'll start to feel like I've got a handle on it and it's possible that I will pay it off one day...
My biggest tip is to call the bank and ask for them to lower the interest rate - mine went from 20% to 3%!!!!

    • @SugarMamma
      @SugarMamma  5 лет назад

Thats good! Its still $100 more than it could have been. Keep going! xCC

awesome. i am also just wondering how we can tackle our car loans. and i found that the debt snowball strategy (starting with the lowest loan) is good to help you change your mindset because you can immediately see the results but the most effective is debt avalanche strategy because it's faster.
