Are you aware that Jackson Arnold hasn't had a QB coach since Lebbie? OU has failed this young man in the most egregious way. I think it was supposed to be SL but, according to Cale Gundy, the QB room has been run by committee. I don't think BV was aware of this until the week SL was fired. SL was a bad hire and Kevin Johns had done a good job until last week but think everyone needs to lay off Arnold a little. Horrifying oline, no receivers and no QB coach???
We do not need to make Brent venables the next Josh heiple, I think that when Stoops mistakenly fired Josh Heibel that put a fire in his belly and has made him the great head coach he is. Brent venables doesn't need that he is a winner in his belly he just needs time and his people around him. I'm all for loyalty, BUT, we can't keep hiring former players because we are very fond of them for the work on the field as players when they seem to not be good head coaches or even position coaches. Coach V needs to just be given time. How long did it take Harbaugh at Michigan to get a dominant national championship team we need patience we've got the right guy
@@lynnsimpson4908 Finally some f@&king sanity out of someone! Saban’s not coming to Oklahoma…find me a better coach than BV or shut the f$&k up! OU’s secret sauce has never been a system, always culture. We win because our coaches and players bleed Crimson and Cream! Good times make soft men. Soft men make hard times. Hard times make tough men. Tough men make good times. I wouldn’t testify under oath that LR is a man but he’s as soft as Charmin triple ply and objectively made OU worse every year he was HC. BV is as tough as they come. Start with loyalty and toughness . And character matters too! The Coach is not the problem, the QB is not the problem, Wide-receivers are not the problem. Our problem is we don't have an SEC O-line. O-line recruiting was totally ignored since we seemed to have magically got outstanding O-linemen every year. Now the we definitely know what's wrong, fix it. Recruit quality O-line, whatever it takes. We'll be back to our great self if we fix this one major problem. Boomer Sooners!
@@guardsix6 Oline is the problem but not having a QB coach for a true sophomore and true freshman is its own massive problem. As is not having our top 5 WR’s. As is our RB room. Good QB play stretches the field, elite WR talent spreads the field. Both make a terrible oline a pretty decent oline.
@@matthewbdelier I agree with some of what you said, but without a competent O-line, the QB nor the excellent wide-receivers have time to execute any routes. The QB winds up scrambling for his life just to try and make a play. If an O-line forms a decent pocket, any QB at this level should be able to pick out free receivers and connect. They just have to have time to execute and we're not giving our QBs that time or space!
I thought the statement from Joe C was pretty ambiguous and could be interpreted either way. The key to his staying is simple, can't afford to fire him AND get a top hire. You fire BV and then get your 5th choice on a rehire, you're stuck with someone for at least 6 years or so who could well be worse. And do not think it can't get worse, it very surely can. But be aware, if the doaners cut off the $$$$, then BV is gone.
This video is very accurate. You made a lot of interesting points about what we have seen this season and I does make me think that we are going in the same direction as Clemson. I’m hopeful that we will have a better season next year.
@corydavis617 You might be fine with mediocrity at Oklahoma but 3 losing seasons as head coach isn't the standard. He will be gone next year with another losing season.
@clarkd2742 So two bad seasons and a mediocre season and that's good with you ? Ok that's fine. If you are good with having another losing season and you fine with the status quo, then I have no argument. We shall see how long we will stay relevant in the SEC . That's fine. 👌👌👌👌
I think you're way off base. In comparison to what TexAss did, Oklahoma doesn't have the $$$ to pay players the way TexAss did. As for Roof, he was always intended to be a stop gap to only be in his position for 2 years. The Littrell hire, in paper should have worked, but in his defense, with all the injuries on offense he couldn't run a lot of plays without cpmpitent receivers out an O-line that could pass or run block. Yes, with 2 games to go the O-libe has improved, but I'm not sure how much of the offensive output you can really blame on Littrell. As for your Clemsoning comment, I call bullshit! Coach Venables made it clear coming in it would be a long rebuild and he soars to be ahead of schedule, especially with the defense. The incoming class is equipped with the talent at O-line to fix a lot of the issues that held the offense back, so I Expect progress next year, especially with a new OC coming on board. You've been so anxious to point fingers and try to place blame when you're really not qualified to place blame and those who are have spoken out in support of coach Venables, so that oughta tell you a lot.
And you are qualified how? You should learn how to spell and use proper grammar techniques before you decide you want to open your big mouth. You can either respect the content, or move on. Either way, all you are doing is repeating everything he has already said. I would put Jay up before you any day chump!
@Sooner_Spy I think you're missing that on the LockedOn Sooner pod, Jay consistently talks about needing to give BV time. Don't mistake his points on why BV will be gone as an endorsement of the idea. The ONLY reason this is even a question, is because there are a ton of younger fans that want instant gratification and want it so badly that they are willing to play the coach carousel every other year if they don't see immediate success. Those fans are the loudest, and that's unfortunate. Jay knows that. Most great head coaches aren't instant hits, but BV has already turned our atrocious defense around in 3 years (and really, I don't even count his first season because of the BS he had to deal with after the Lincoln Riley fiasco). BV has been fighting uphill since he got here, and I think an asterisk should be placed on his first three seasons. He made some crappy hires at OC and we paid for it, but I don't think it's indicative of his ceiling. I doubt Jay really does, either.
The defense shows up for this game I think. If they score more than 30, I’d be surprised. It’s a home game and at least the defense plays with some pride.
Jay.... Let's be honest... There wouldn't be a reason why he wouldn't be on the hot seat. I love coach Venables - and he is no doubt one of the greatest defensive minds in the game. Is he a HC? I honestly can't say for certain he is, or he isn't. Why not try and reunite the 3 amigos (Stoops, Venables, and Riley)? If not, and Venables stays, we absolutely need a solid OC who is going to utilize the talent we have at QB - that and so Coach B. can focus on the OL. I don't see Hawkins Jr. and Arnold staying - especially with Sperry coming in and O'neal being committed the following season.

Agree 100% on why Venables should stay!
I think we will be much better , very optimistic
BV is not going anywhere you can't expect big things from a injured Oklahoma team... BOOMER!!
As far as I'm concerned we have a 7 million dollar DC on payroll...
And so has the team
Keep BV and OU will not be a playoff contender for another 10 years.

you know...when i first saw this yrs sched for this year, my first thought was...4 or 5 wins max. so, they have lived up to my expectations
For the defense alone he should stay. He needs a real OC
Hires is one thing, I just don't think is a head coach, takes a certain bread to be a head coach,
Oklahoma opperating on, It's cheaper to keeper.
😂
Love jay. He’s way better than John Williams. Jay’s points are always valid and fair.
LOL 😢

Change their name to the Dollar General Sooners if they're so worried about money. Keep my state's name out of it.
If we have another losing season next year the fire will be so hot under BV they will have no choice but to fire him.
According to you???? Slow down with the idiotic comment, he's not going anywhere...

More seasons like this one will do irreparable damage to the program. BV isn’t the guy.

Well, since you can't spell WORD, your opinion is out
