hey, I am doing a science fair project about: Does the packaging of the food determine if we want the food and what colors are best to make you buy it? what experiments do you think I could do

I did a project once in school where I had people fill out a survey with a bunch of questions, and only two I was paying attention to: "what's your favorite color" and "What's your favorite flavor". (I wanted to see if selecting food packaging would be biased towards one or the other from a visual standpoint.) I had a follow-up/second survey, where I had three sections, each with 5 boxes, and asked them select which cereal they would choose, based on the box. The only difference was the color. One row had their favorite color and random colors. The other row had what I called their "favorite flavor-associated color" - that is, if they said their favorite flavor was cherry, I had a red box as an option, with other random colors. And in the third row, I had both their favorite color and their favorite flavor associated color, as well as random colors, to see which one they would pick between the two. If I remember correctly, there was a strong selection bias with participants to pick their favorite flavor-associated-color for the cereal box. And there was even a smaller bias towards their favorite color, if their favorite flavor-associated-color wasn't an option. Maybe something along those lines might be cool :)

Hi! sorry for the delay-we have a cereal packaging study that is quite similar. Asking consumers to pick a product without the packaging and then with the packaging with different colors in 2 runs with a control group.

I don't understand how the data is measured. New packaging makes millions more? Is that the only thing that changed for a product like RX Bar? What about store availability, what about ads (I remember RX Bar advertising aggressively between 2016 and up until 2020 or something). Claiming that good packaging design will increase sales by 8000% is ridiculous, misleading and not factual.

Hi! We cite our sources from numerous industry studies and articles-RX Bar themselves and many industry sources have touted the packaging as one of the main drivers of their growth, it does not happen in isolation but packaging is certainly a factor. Furthermore, we never claimed the packaging alone increased sales 8000%, and advertising the packaging is one of the ways CPG goods gain traction, a billion dollar ad campaign for a product in weak packaging is a waste. We appreciate your comment and can refer you to sources, but please do not claim we stated something we did not, thank you.
