Just changed to Canon from Sony and love everything about the Canon R6 II and R5 II that i got, combined with the new lenses 35 1.4, 50 1.4 and 85 1.2 just love the images and never switching back.
Canon, Nikon, Sony, who cares. Ive been shooting weddings on Canon, Sony, Olympus etc since 2008. The clients could care less what brand of her you're using. So I don't know what "sign" you think Canon needs but the R3 and every other Canon body, lens etc is top notch. I shoot Sony but hey if your getting sponsored by Nikon or whoever else and you need to shout it out there all good by me :))
@ Mostly agree with you that clients don't care what brand we're using - but I do know that my clients trust me to make a judgement call on whatever camera is the most trustworthy and won't impact my ability to do my best work. My Canon cameras were locking up, losing images etc. which is not a reality I think any professional photographer would be down with. So that's why I made the switch, not because of a sponsorship haha.
@@LindsayCoulter 100% - they don’t care if I’m on the 1.8 S or 1.2 S, they care about consistency and capturing the moments that matter. Nikon helps me do that the best! Different for all photographers though based on preference and workflow
I love canons colors and autofocus the most but the fact that they haven’t opened their RF lenses to other manufacturers made me move to Sony a while ago
Welcome to the nikon side! :) You will love it, except the cost of the s-line glass and choices of good lenses for the z series, but the lenses are pretty much flawless in quality on the s-line.
Beautiful wedding! Great video Taylor. Awesome pictures Lindsay! Congratulations on switching to Nikon, i just switched to Nikon from fuji for my wedding work. I will be keeping the fujifilm system for personal stuff and some portrait shoots. I am starting with two Nikon Zf . What lenses is Lindsay going yo use on the Nikon system?
I’m still way too invested in my Canon gear to switch. Plus I’m happy with my Canon gear. The only thing I wish I could do is get third party lenses lol
The “first look” moment with the couple and entire wedding party is such a fun moment! Haven’t thought to do that and putting that idea in my back pocket. ❤
I really enjoy Lindsay's wedding videos - she has such a great vibe. Also, glad you aren't rewarding a system you find unreliable with MORE hard-earned money. Looking forward to your experience with Nikon - but I do wonder, from where are you being told that they are more reliable (than Canon, I guess)? My XT-3 has been rock-solid so far, but I know Nikon interests me as a "maybe someday" system.
Thank you!! And yes - that's how I felt.. people kept telling me to upgrade to an R5 or something else within the same ecosystem. I tried that when I went from the R6 to R6ii and nothing improved.. so it didn't seem logical to keep going down that path. Especially knowing that Canon knows the motherboard is an issue - but they still told me it wasn't under warranty and would have to be replaced out of pocket? Not the best move haha. And honestly I loved Nikon when I was using the DSLR's and never had problems except with the D750. So I'm basing my judgement on the previous 8+ years with Nikon. It's too early on the Z series for me to really know, but after one 12-hour day on the Z8 and Z6iii I think the reliability is still very much there with nikon!
@@LindsayCoulter I forgot to ask you a different question - how do you protect your camera / what is your practice to prevent fogging up / condensation when moving from a frozen outdoor session to going back inside? I know it is recommended to shove equipment back into bags etc. but sometimes we need to go on shooting. I also fear the condensation as I've had that happen once and it is downright scary. Do you stash the cold body and then grab the second body that you left inside? Just curious.
@@matt88169 I don't tend to have those issues in Canada even in the cold! I've only ever had the condensation issue happen shooting destination weddings, and even then the condensation is usually short-lived. Did the condensation you had happen before last long or did it go away once you were back inside for a bit?
@@LindsayCoulterI had been outside in below freezing temps for about an hour or so. I walked inside and the condensation just hit…it looked like I had been out in the rain. I’m not sure how long it lasted because I took it back outside, shoved it in a plastic bag with a few silica gel packs I had kicking around, and then put it in my backpack for hours. When I opened it back up it was dry and functioned perfectly, but boy, weather sealing or not it freaked me out. Obviously you can’t be sure condensation occurred on the outside only (but both body and lens had WR that day). Basically when I saw you shooting in the snow, I was both loving it and reliving my nightmare for you, lol.
The Z S 1.8 primes are great and affordable. The 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 S 2.8 lenses are probably all you would need for weddings. As for reliability, my only major problem was with a Sony camera. In truth, every company has had issues with electronics. Nikon was quite good with the two recall issues on the Z8.
I saw in another video that you have (had) problems with the R6 locking up on you. Did you send it to Canon Professional Services? And WHY do (did?) you hate the 24-70? It's heavy, but it's a nice lens. One of my faves.
I didn’t send it in - I had it serviced at a conference by CPS and after insisting it was my memory cards causing all the issues (it wasn’t) they reluctantly said the motherboard likely needs to be swapped and it’s apparently not a rare issue
With all the trust issues you had switching from canon is the minimum. At the end all cameras are only very very very expensive tools, nowadays every brand should be reliable, I've just switched from fuji to canon.. may the force (and luck) be with me! 😂
You will probably be fine!! I have heard from plenty of happy canon people (they're all in my DM's lol). Just make sure if you have any issues early on that you address them with CPS early and don't wait until it's out of warranty!
I had a really rough time with Canon R6 and R6ii - if you checkout the Shoot Your Shot podcast in the description we do a whole episode explaining the switch!
That’s very interesting to hear. As someone that shoots all the brands I’d go Nikon, Sony then Canon. I haven’t done a wedding for myself on Fuji in a number of years tho

The way cameras are expensive in Africa Ghana 🇬🇭. How I wish we have choices like u guys do. Anyway canon is kind of popular in Ghana 🇬🇭 and most of us uses Canon cameras. For me I use 5d mark 3 and 6d wish to move to the mirrorless
I shoot an r5ii and still regularly reach for my old 5d3 and 6d. They still take amazing photos and often produce images that my r5ii can’t match. Enjoy those bodies while you still have them
After working in a larger camera store and shooting full time I honestly don't get the jump from Canon to Nikon. Yes any of the top 3 are good enough for professional photography but I can't stand Nikon's auto focus tracking consistency, yes Nikon does have great ergo but I'd take a Canon over Nikon any day. Lindsay crushed this wedding though!
Did you use the Z6iii or Z8?? I agree the autofocus wasn't awesome when the Z6 first came out - which is why I jumped to the R6 when I went to mirrorless - but the Z6iii and Z8 are far superior to the R6 and R6ii now!
@@LindsayCoulter yes, I used all the way up to the z9, I felt the z8 and z9 were obviously best in the Nikon lineup but in my mind canon has far better glass and the autofocus tracking 1000x better. I don’t get why you wouldn’t jump to the R5mkii or even the R6mkiii is about to release, which will be better than the Nikon equivalent. Also the R8 is on the same level as the first R5, so comparing it to the R6 isn’t really fair. Being able to actually use all brands on a daily basis and bring them home and use them in the field has been very helpful getting to know each brand. Either way I’m sure you’ll still continue to crush it!
@@KTWilliams Interesting you felt like canon’s glass is better - that wasn’t my experience at all after 60+ weddings with canon. But of course to each their own!! My reasoning for switching systems vs just upgrading came down to a couple of things - 1. Nikon has way more options when it comes to lenses.. I hate that Canon forces you to buy their glass which of course keeps prices hiiiigh. 2. I don’t want to reward a brand with more of my money after 3 failed experiences with R6 and R6ii. Especially when the motherboards failing is a known issue and they dont offer any resolution except for paying them to fix it haha. Canon did offer to have me send my stuff in after they saw the first video of me having issues - but if they’re only doing it when people on RUclips roast them that doesn’t feel like a brand I want to get behind atm.
@@LindsayCoulter That's weird, i've never had any internal issues or known any to have issues. With the hundred's or thousands that we sell I don't think we've ever had that issue come into our repair center. If you want lens options why not go Sony? They have more mirrorless options than both. Canon did the same thing with the EF line up and people act like this is something new that canon has been doing. You also think Canon is busy making the best office printers and Sony is busy building Tv's and other companies camera sensors and both are still on top, that says a lot for them. In my mind with the current L glass that's available, you should be fine unless you want something different like a sigma 28-45 1.8 then I get it. Each to their own, I wish you good luck and I can't wait to see what you do next!
I’d say Fuji colours are the best. Lens sharpness also isn’t a huge consideration anymore since all brands all so good on their pro lines. If anything I prefer a lens with character over sharpness
