I've never seen an article on elderberries that mentions toxicity. The ones I've seen treat them like a panacea. By the way, exaggerations of danger aren't limited to herbal remedies. Most of the additives in food are harmless except in very large quantities, but people freak out about them anyway. And while medicines have long lists of side-effects that scare people, that's because they're required to report every side-effect anyone has ever had with them (even if it only happened once). Herbal remedies mainly look safe because they aren't held to that standard. Anyway, thanks for another interesting video.

    Dear Brian, Eric, and Steve,
Anther great programme. Elderberries are one of my favourite fruits. I am especially fond of elderberry pie. As with all your programmes, you covered the topic of elderberries comprehensively, and in .just the right amount of detail. Thank you again for these very informative and enjoyable videos.
    Sincerely,

Congrats on getting yours accepted! I tried thrice to get one up and RUclips kept slapping my hand. Of course I also didn’t pull any punches so there’s that. Lol
About cooking them. I eat them raw all the time and know many other people who do. They can have an emetic effect for some people but not all.
I’ve also eaten them frozen and of course you can dry them too Store long term as well.
    Great video guys.

Great information guys! I have heard elderberries were good for colds but have never tried it. Our local Mennonite shops sell the syrup. May just have to pick some up to have on hand since I now know elderberries are chock full of vitamins! Thanks HFGs!

I worked for a large vitamin and supplement company. Elderberry was our best selling “Immune System” product. Loaded with all kinds of good stuff. May help with inflammation, lessen stress, and healthy heart, and ward off common colds and flu. I’d recommend keeping a jar of supplements in the medicine closet!

Great video! Quick question. Is there a specific edible variety of elderberry? Im new to this. I live in Canada and we have this online seller treetime who sells Black Elderberry but mentions its toxic. Is this the one to buy? Thanks

As long as they are ripe and cooked they are edible, though many only like the taste of some blue and purple varieties.
