Tutorial Sim lore proposal: Bob and Betty Sim are either clones of the original Bob and Betty or part of the alternate Sims 4 timeline. If the latter, then Joe and Jane Sim could’ve had Emily who became the tutorial Sim for Sims 4. She does wear and orange top like her parents, possibly a family tradition? 👀

I completely understand the pronunciation thing with live. I don’t hear the words in my head when I read, I just kinda see them and comprehend them lmao. My boyfriend thinks I’m weird but it helps me to read really quickly!

I feel you about the left handed stuff. I had a severe pain in my right pointer finger knuckle (turned out to be a cyst, removed, now I'm great). I switched to using a left handed mouse and looked at other options so as not to have to use that finger. It's practically an insult to disabled gamer community if a game won't let you pick your own key bindings. You don't think about it until you need it, so just pointing it out to everyone. Every game should have some basics for people to adapt the game to help them play.
I always pronounced it as live mode as in "live tv" and when I heard people pronouncing it the other way I was SHOOK
I take it as "live" as in "not paused" so, in motion

Such a lovely trivia with your dad! I pronounce "Live" as "Life" just because I'm used to the translation in one of my native languages where it is literally called as "Mode of Life". I was also confused and intrigued when I found out that Joe was Bob's and Betty's son back then. Now I believe that he's from alternate reality.
Sims 2 is and always will be my all-time favorite Sims. I am still going back to it today and enjoy it thoroughly. So much good stuff in there. Had a super heavy Sims 1 phase last year and it is still so much fun to play it. Really enjoyed the vid and the nostalgia. Thankss :)!
The Sims 2 even had its own full “tutorial game” 😂 Life Stories was basically a tutorial for The Sims 2 lmao. I didn’t try playing the tutorial in 2 until years after I started to play it. And even though I could play the game fine I still bought life stories, just because I needed every game 😅
Wanted to add this in, the other Animal Crossing games didn't have more of a tutorial than New Horizons. ACNH might have the most tutorial guiding stuff
In Wild World you get Nook's tutorial errands and exactly one line of dialogue for everything he doesn't cover and then you're on your own forever lol
In New Leaf villagers are still telling me how to take pictures. It's been a month
I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume WW's method is the more common one in earlier games
the sims 2 tutorial is so nostalgic to me. i remember me and my siblings would terrorize tutorial joe by messing with the terrain tool and placing him around bodies of water or putting him in a ditch just to see if he'll die of starvation
The sims 3 tutorial makes me so happy because i remember the first time playing it on my moms crappy laptop and being confused about the controls
What's cool about the pronunciations of "live" mode and "lyve" mode is that they both work. I personally grew up saying "lyve" mode but the majority of people say "live" mode so it's changed for me over time.
Watching you interact with your dad made my heart swell, the way he was teasing and having fun with you made me think of me and my dad who passed about year and half ago. Literally in tears that was such an amazing interaction to see thank you.

the sims 4 has had many a tutorial, i remember alex moyer being a roommate before discover university came out and thinking "why isn't this just a regular function, why is it tied to the tutorial" and then they sold us roommates and i went "ah, that's why", love this game but you have to pay for legitimately everything

Live Mode as in Living is the same tense as the others so it kind of makes more sense. You build, you buy, you live. But I feel like I say it both ways, depending on the day lol. I think I might say it Live as in Life more often, but mostly I just say Play, Unpause, or I'm going back to the game. I don't use "live mode" as much as I use "build/buy mode"

The flashbacks I got of seven year old me staying up to the very early hours on the weekends in 2000 when I saw Bob & Betty Newbie 😍 I miss the Sims 1 and the expansion packs, they were utterly chaotic but so fun. Love when your parents pop in the videos, they're really fun.

Listen: as a lefty, I remap every WASD to OKL; . Sims is one of the only games I play without the option to remap, it works great for everything else I've tried. Just mirror every other key to the other side of the keyboard (E becomes I, Q becomes P, etc.)

I’d love for you to check out the tutorials on some of the more obscure titles. The PS2 version of Sims 2 lives in my head rent free, particularly in you getting sassed by your mum for not having a job in a timely manner and your aspirations immediately leading to you buying and jumping on a trampoline, other needs be damned

I always called it live (rhymes with jive) mode because it was the opposite of pause. Like, with a television. I think the huge red 'PAUSED' at the top of the screen that goes away when you 'go live' is what made me think that. But 20 years later I can see why live (rhymes with sieve) mode makes more sense as the opposite of build mode.

Your so lucky to be able to share your love of The Sims with your family, I never got to show my mom or dad the game, well my dad died before the 1st game came out, and since I only had a desktop PC and live away from home, I never got to show my mom either, who died in 2008, which by then I was living at home, again, but I still didn't get to show her The Sims, because she was so sick at the time! and my two older brothers don't really care!
You seem to have really fun and lovable family, easygoing, my family is only easygoing if you agree with them!
How Emily fits in the lore, a flimsy interpretation: Since Joe and Jane are also both wearing orange, she's either Jane's mother or their daughter, depending on how we want to mess around with the chronology.

When I was a kid and we could only get what I assume now was a pirated version of the Sims 2 on CD it always crashed in live mode whenever an event happened (a fire, a car for work arrival, etc.), so I just spent entire time playing in cas and in tutorials endlessly lol

Can't say I've experienced such a thing. Although there's probably some family photos in the Broke family album that might show old Bob and Betty. Could create some false memories.

The Flyleaf shoutout!!! I live for it! Never realized their song "Cassie" was in TS2!!!1 I was a die-hard fan of Flyleaf in high school.
I skipped ts2 tutorial, first time playing, made my whole family including my cousin and my baby brother, my grandpas etc.
Everyone, except my teen cousin and my mom, were dead, kids were taken away, I was watching them die slow horrible death.
Then I discovered buy mode.
But I got chills every time sims had dreams about my dead “family”.
1. Yes babe I too do not pronounce live in my head, I never thought about it until someone brought it up in a video.
2. I need to go back to Sims 2 and re-live Flyleaf being in the Sims 2
I always used to play the sims 2 tutorial and put the sims in a box in the kitchen and watch them burn… I think I was normal.
2:20 regarding live - life mode pronunciation, I tell you fun fact about myself, in my head I always read numbers in my native language. For example sentence "I saw 13 cats yesterday!" I read as "I saw trzynaście cats yesterday!" 🤷
