it’s just frustrating because if they were able to put this level of detail in all those years ago then you know that they could definitely do it now, they just chose not to
meow meow Exactly. Sims 2 was a completely new 3D engine so the developers had to start from scratch from Sims 1. Sims 4 has no excuse for being so shoddy especially at its launch, when the team could pull of what they did way back in 2004. The amount of care put into making Sims 2 a good, detailed game versus Sims 4 is not even comparable unfortunately.
Especially when you know the final production was rushed because of a fire and a lot of the things we saw in the trailer weren’t included
They realized that we'll buy anything with the Sims name so they know they don't need to put as much effort in making the games anymore.

@@Lily-br9yt If I remember correctly, Lyndsay Pearson said that the supposed fire never happened. I think what happened is a lot of features were going to be implemented in Sims 2 (including scenarios like power outages, as well as thunderstorms) but were scrapped, with some references still being left over in the game's files, and the graphics were also tweaked before release (graphical tweaking before release has been a pattern for most Sims games, including Sims 3 and 4). I remember reading the creators couldn't release rain at launch because they were having trouble with rain getting into the houses. The developers had a problem with swimming pools too, but they postponed the Sims 2's release date and worked with another team to get them working.
Andrew Willmott was a graphics engineer for the Sims 2 and he has a presentation on the development process of the Sims 2 on his blog. Wasn’t it Grant that said that people didn’t want to do all the little annoying realism things? How wrong could he be! I miss making my sims do housework one day, making the bed etc. in sims 4 we’re lucky if we get a dirty sink.

Also can we talk about how Sims 2, a game that came out in 2004, is the most realist Sims game? Teens could literally get pimples, run away and sneak out. You have to mod Sims 3 and Sims 4 for that!
Like the part where you can bathe your baby in the bath makes my heart melt because I have memories of being bathed in the sink by my mom.
Sims 4 you could atleast do a run away teen let's play.
In 3, the Police arrest almost the moment you step outside your home lot.
The Sims 4 is literally a mirror image of the times we live in now. All the technology and "improvements" but no soul in it.
Yet Sims team say they can't do some things in the Sims 4 because of technology limitation and animations not working. But with the tech of 2004(16 years ago ffs),they were able to do a lot of stuff they say they can't do in 2020? Where is this world coming to?
Sims 3 was like the adventure shit, color wheel and open world.
Sims 4 is just aestetics.
Perhaps they are trying to turn everything into politically correct situations
so they don't influence (or at least get accused of) the kids playing sims 4 (for example the steamy woohoo cut scenes and runaway teens)
Just my guess. Everything has to be politically correct whether realistic or idealistic.
The teddy bears also get worn out after a long time from overruse from children/toddlers, like their buttons fall out their eyes and they get dirty
I've played the sims 2 many many many hours and i did not know! Just shows how big and detailed this game is
If I'm not mistaken, wearing out was originally planned for all objects but got cut down to just depreciation in price. Teddy bears were left as an exception.
Lark Only what!! That would’ve been cool if they could’ve done that for all objects or continued it with 3; although in TS3, you can use Color Wheel to make things look worn or old.

@@micahcook2408 Yeah. I think they realized fairly early on that that was just too ambitious, as it required multiple states for every object. For the most part only objects like lamps and electronics ended up having multiple states (on, off, broken...) and of course the cow plant had fed, hungry, and dead states.

To me, the sims 2 team were so passionate about what they were doing, and that’s why the game is so special to so many people. The Skyrim team also did an amazing job, so amazing even after 11 years it’s still strong, the same goes for one of my fav games vampire the masquerade (someone is going to download the game by just mentioning it) also has that “passionate team” behind... when things are done correctly they last...
If only EA was as eager to re-release TS2 as Bethesda is with Skyrim!
Skyrim is 8 years old and it was a great game but it doesn't hold up. It'll be seen as a classic, as it should, but the game was and still is full of bugs and two dimensional quests. 90% of what you do in that game is go to the other side of the map to get something from somebody and then go all the way back to give it to somebody else. The only reason it's still a popular game is because of the modding community
Bloodlines! :D I'm currently finishing up a playthrough of that (female Malkavian). And it and the Sims 2 actually came out the same year (2004), so I guess that was just a good year for games?

The Sims 2 was definitely KING when it comes to small details, animations and interactions. The Sims 3 sacrificed a lot of the small detail to bring groundbreaking core features like the open world and create-a-style. It's up to personal opinion whether it was worth it in the end. The Sims 4 is a very shallow game. It doesn't have the groundbreaking core features of The Sims 3 nor the attention to detail and animations of 2. It's a really mediocre game to be honest.
I'm a TS2 player at heart but I really appreciate TS3 and the dev team for going big and being so ambitious about the game. It had its issues but they really went for it and tried to give the fans something amazing. Every expansion pack was filled to the brim. TS4 constantly seems to be trying to get away with doing as little as possible.
i can't understand how they slowly make the game worse, on the sims 3, you had to purchase books on the library that was a cool feature, on the sims 4 no library anymore :/ its not fun to make then buy at home, or to make the object teleport there. why the developer do this its so sad, make me angry, sims 4 had the potential to be a good game but the sims team is fucking it all :( its a very empty game, only thing done better is the vampires :/

on sims 4 the books you buy directly on the bookcase its a downgrade in quality of gameplay, just like you buy food directly on fridge on sims 3 and so on....

I totally agree with you. TS4 has no excitement and nothing seems to go wrong (no burglars and not much conflict between sims) it’s pretty soulless. Can’t even play it for an hour without getting bored.

That is why Sims 2 was the best! It felt most alive and that is why I played it almost every day for years! Nowadays when I visit Sims 4, I get bored so quickly. The Sims is just too plain now.
But it seems that Paralives will go back to how The Sims used to be and also add new innovative ideas! I'm looking forward to try it out. I'm tired of EA.
I don't even think it is all nostalgia. While Sims 3 is my favorite and holds nostalgia for me, I recently played the Sims 2 for the first time and absolutely loved it! It's all around more solid as a game than the Sims 4, imo.

Yesss one of my favorite features. And they didn't make it easy!
I failed twice my first time around and it always seems stressful no matter how many times you do it.
I tried couple of times, at the end i figured out how to do it, so all of my Sims went to privet schools 😂
In the sims 3 if you have town life stuff you can go to edit town and find the private school just place it down on a lot
i've "replaced" the sims 4 with the sims 2 for the past few weeks and the change is worth it honestly. It takes a while to get used to the outdated UI but once you spend a few hours playing it's really hard to stop! I really appreciate the realistic interactions, it makes the game waaayy more immersive!
This is exactly why I grew to love the sims as a kid, Sims 2 was sooo much fun, Sims 4 just seems like a design-a-home-game. I hope the sims 5 will have lots of gameplay...

I wanted to play TS2 after watching this. I hadn’t in years. And the detail in that game really blew me away.
Things I loved:
1) freshly prepared meals have steam coming off of them
2) female sims occasionally push hair away from their face
3) the slow dance interaction for romance (and how music isn’t required for it).
4) the music cue that plays in game when a sim gets pregnant
5) the diversity of interactions. Especially the “ask” menu. Sims really feel like they have a unique personality!
6) MATERNITY CLOTHES.
I’m likely forgetting a lot because I’m tired, but these little things add up, and they REALLY make a huge difference.

Every time I would see my sims cuddling in bed in sims 2 I would go into buy mode so I could go into top down view mode and get a good look at how cute they were

i played the sims 1 a lot and sims 2 even more, but i barely remember sims 3 cuz i just remember being disappointed that it wasn’t the same... sims 4 is fun to build in but overall it just doesn’t get me going like the sims 2

What i miss most? Memories. I miss seeing and making memories for my sims. That little extra bit to add to the story or character. I'm not much of a builder or a custom content kid, but I'm all about the stories that are created using Sims

Hair physics was my favorite bc when you spun your sim around in cas it was fun to watch the hair sway all over the place
I truly loved the sims 2 and I plan on re-downloading it again once I get a new laptop! The way the sims interacted with each other was fantastic and made it feel like they had real relationships especially with their distinct personalities. Sometimes it was hard for certain sims to get along because they differed so much and they all each had topics they were interested in which I thought was cool too.

Michaela Belle Sucky part is that Sims 2 can’t be gotten through Origin anymore. However, it is considered abandonware so you can find it on like one or two sites for abandonware easily enough. I also have the cd key for the whole collection if you still want to get it through origin, so up to you on which option you want to try.

This is why I still play the sims 2 after all these years. One of my personal favourite little details in it is the grandfather clock which actually ticks and chimes, still not forgiven sims 3 or sims 4 for omitting that lol. A small detail that used to annoy me is when your sim had an enemy they'd come and knock the bin over (sims with low nice points do this too)

the sims 2 was ELITE! things like baby changing stations made such a difference - you actually had to look after your toddler!! i miss sims 2 man. also in sims 3 the open world was great, i used to love watching my sims walking around the towns and to others houses. PLUS having horses in sims 3 pets was way fun

Like, sure, you can do challenges in 3 and 4 to make it harder or more challenging, but I had two parents and two kids in sims 2 and raising the kids and keeping up with the parents needs was just challenging by itself if you wanted to keep all their needs high and get their achievements.
