TheGoldcountry Tom Sellek was drafted by the Detroit Tigers out of high school or college in a very late round of the first year player draft. He swings like a player because he was a player. @@michaeltalley51 I think the best example of that is the Rocky movies. The underlying stories in those films are about love, friendship, rivalry and perseverance. But you learn very little about actual boxing from them, aside from throwing haymakers all day
Old School Baseball. I never believed that throwing at the head was acceptable. But, throwing inside and making the hitter get off the plate is part of the game.
@@mistermonologue2442 If you are talking to me, I am just making a play on words, switching the words that Costner says to fit the mascot instead of the batter.
Godalmighty, Tim Robbins has the worst pitching motion in history. He's a fine actor, but couldn't they have had somebody train him how to look like an actual baseball pitcher? At least Charlie Sheen in Major League looked like he had played the game.
There's no way in hell that mascot would have been that close, but sometimes it's okay to force a plot contrivance for a payoff like that. I busted a gut laughing.

The mascot had it coming. The first rule of baseball is: always know where the ball is, and obviously he didn't pay attention. Also, there is simply NO WAY that I, for one, would work anywhere near home plate if I am not either a player or an umpire.

I love most everything about this movie "Bull Durham" - maybe a little too much sex. I really like the Southern Accent of that minor league baseball announcer. Hollywood under the likes of Disney/MCU J Bob Iger, Kathleen Kennedy, bitc* Brie Larson, Rachel Zegler are not giving us any decent, good movies about regular American life such as minor league baseball. No stories about real people, real places in fly over states - the South, Midwestern. Everything is a bout "Woke", "Feminist", "BLM" "America is EVIL RACIST". Holllywood suc*s now. At least J pervert Harvey Weinstein got taken out. So many, many more like him that need to go.
A Yankee pitcher in the 50's & 60's, Ryne Duren, was noted for his blazing fastball & his poor eyesight. When he warmed up, he frequently would throw his first pitch, 20 feet over the catcher's head, causing opposing hitters to be reluctant to dig in.
I was gonna comment this is the road to the pros single A baseball....an watching these soon to be pros...its as silly as when i played in little league just their adults....but it mite as well be little league with 8 to 10 year old kids....the coaches spitting routin cheering the whole scene...
The director talks about how cold it was on this day of shooting, because they were shooting in winter at a time when an actual baseball game should not be going on. That's why you can see their breath. It was that cold.
0:20 This was filmed in the winter or late fall. Notice how when Costner comes out to talk to Robbins, you can see their breath. Was the mound scene reshot at a later time?

That reminds me Tom Berenger in major league , talking to Haywood 😂🤣ruclips.net/video/PE4Nms6fqAA/видео.html
A nice psych out the batter scene. Someone owes the mascot a few beers for that stunt.
He was at his sarcastic best.
This movie stands up so well over time. I never get tired of watching it and fondly remember seeing it when it was released. Classic.
Indeed, a true classic
I saw it in the theater when first released, loved it. Was not the same on vhs cassette. Nuke's laugh is priceless!
It's the best
Such a great baseball movie. Many great one liners in this one. The crazy laugh after nuke hits the bull is hilarious.
One of the best things about this scene, is how Costner is enjoying himself, while he laughs. Very contagious.🤣🤣
Its a shame Costner got old. He was made to be the eternal 20s guy having fun in movies. Not that some of his recent movies havent been great. Draft Day and Three Days to Kill come to mind.

i liked your comment and apparently ten years on... still stands the test of time like this movie.😆 i only saw after when ja posted. still stands.
Nah. The best part is Tim Robbins' excuse for a 'wind up'. That shit is so weak, it ruins the movie for me.
'Nuke'? More like 'Noodle-Arm'.
Costner was so perfect for this role. He was an actual catcher in college.
YOu can tell. Unlike most actors, he swings and throws like a ball player.
Tom Selleck is another one. They did a "celebrity" home run derby one time, and he was the only one to hit it over the fence.

How about Tim Robbins colorful mechanics? 😆
Chuck Connors played pro sports too..I think Basketball and Baseball but not sure of Football..
My son quoted Costner's line in a LL game. The Ump cracked up laughing.
I hope it wasn't calling him the no no word :-)

Most of them aren't even really about sports. Sports are just the backdrop to tell the actually story.
