  • This machine had been in storage for some years. I thought initially the steaming /priming nozzle was blocked because it may not have been cleaned prior to storage. This wasnt the case. It clearly was clean and not blocked. It was working fine before it was put in storage.
    If your machine wont dispense water at all but you can hear pump trying to pump water when priming and all functions seem to be working otherwise. My machine the pump was thumping as i tried to prime it but water wasnt coming out anywhere. It would grind the beans and try to make coffee but no water was evident.
    Before i opened it up, i decided to try and manually prime the machine. This worked a treat and saved me a lot of headache in dismantling the machine. Hope it helps others.
    If your machine is dispensing water from the steam wand or brew head its not a priming issue. Its some other problem. You can find water diagrams for these on the internet and they are quite complex with lots of valves and weird things i have no idea about.

    Absolute genius. Exactly same issue and in storage for 6 years. You have saved an expensive amazon purchase. Many thanks for your ingenuity, Helen, in Toulouse France.

    Thank you very much. You saved me many hours of work, because I was determined to take the whole device apart and look for a fault in the water pump

    Thanks to this video I grabbed a hand pump for a bike tire (racing or mtb). Nozzle fitted over the thingy and I pumped some air into the system. So it works even without water. Thanks for showing me the way to a fix.

    Thanks! Was just gifted this machine. It sat for a while so the pump just ran and shut off. Wouldn't prime. I had a syringe, so I forced water through the system, and it started working! Now to figure out the idiosyncrasies of this machine! Got a good cup of espresso already though!

    You are awesome. Thanks a million this worked! Had been unused for 3 years and given to us. I didn't have the plastic tubing so just squirted in two syringes of water. Bingo! Was about to give up, but good old RUclips came to the rescue again.

    5***** Thank you for the tip, man. My Talea Giro was in storage for 5 years. I could not prime it at all... Did what you did with a 20cc syringe and a tube from my reverse osmosis unit. Had to soften the tip of the hi-pressure tube with a lighter to get it on. It did not even have to be tight... I just held it by hand. All worked. Thank you. Off to descaling. ;-)

    WOW!! A friend was cleaning out their house and gave me one of these. Her son had left it behind a few years ago. She didn’t know if it worked or not. I could not get it to prime and was thinking of replacing the flow meter/pump. Decided to try your method after seeing other posts from people who had theirs sitting for a long time without use. It is brewing coffee now!!
    You have saved me a great deal of time and money. I was thinking of taking it in to be repaired, since it was a free machine and it might be worth the $$ to have it repaired. I used the syringe that came with my Sawyer mini water filter. It squirted out some water , but not too bad.

    Your video inspired me to just run the steam wand a few times, thinking that the pressure might be higher and dislodge or clear up whatever was in the pipes, and it did! I can now descale the machine! Thank you for the inspiration!

    Thank you so very much! I bought a Saeco Xsmall new in box at a fleamarket, for next to nothing, but alas that wouldn't prime either - pumped water through the intake nozzle like you did (but without the tube, just held it on as tight as I could) - problem solved, and I got myself a bargain. Thank you very much!

    Thank youuuuu !!! It works. After an hour trying many things, I finally saw your video and repaired my coffee machine with a seringue.
    First the water and the steam came out the left pump but no coffee in the cup. I pumped several cups of water and when I re-tried I got coffee and saved many 💲💲💲

    So I have the same problem, I can not prime my Exprelia Evo. Tried this with a syringe and ended up with a puddle. I most likely openned up the valve inside and now the water flows freely from the water tank trough the machine and I can't stop it. It didn't work for me. But noce video and explanation.

    Thank you so much for posting this! The fix worked for me as well. Unfortunately, I added two more syringes of water after the blockage was cleared, and now water is dripping from the steam wand when the machine is on (and for some time after I turn it off). I'm assuming I'll have to disassemble the machine to fix this issue. I was hoping you might have some advice on what I'll need to replace/repair.

    In the Odea user manual says that you prime the circuit by dispensing the water from the steam spout

    • @shifty2759
      @shifty2759 4 года назад

      That’s absolutely correct. But when it fails to prime, i.e. dispense from the steam spout, and all else fails, this can sometimes save you a trip to the repair shop. A fix for machines that have been in storage or sitting unused for lengthy periods. Something internal must stick after sitting unused. Likely the water has evaporated from internal leaving a tiny amount of calcium or similar deposit. Enough to cause something to stick. The machine can’t seem to prime even though it’s making all the correct noises. This manual priming method can help.
      Machines that are in regular use and suddenly fail to prime are likely to have a mechanical failure and this won’t help.

    You don't state whether the pump was activating or not. I have the rotating lights and no pump noise, so it's not going to prime without a working pump. I presume your pump was working and making a noise but it just wouldn't prime?

    • @Philsfrets
      @Philsfrets  3 года назад

      Yes, your assumption is correct. The pump needs to be working. This problem occurs with machines that have been in storage and not used for some time. I’m guessing the minerals and salts in the water crystallise in the machine and stop water getting to the pump. I’ve had the no pump situation occur and it was the chrome knob on top. Someone bumps it from the coffee setting and it’s in limbo between a steam and hot water dispensing setting. Have you tried to dispense hot water only and see if the pump works in that mode?

    • @OMGWTFLOLSMH
      @OMGWTFLOLSMH 3 года назад

      @@Philsfrets - I can't remember exactly what I did, but I took the entire machine apart to test the pump and it the pump was working fine when 120V was applied to it. I forced water through the lines and and it eventually started working. It is now happening again, can't get it to prime. I will go to the store and get some proper hose and a large syringe, if possible, and try your method.
      Ours has never been in storage, it's used everyday, but I think our pump is going bad because it sputters a lot when dispensing coffee, which tells me there's an air leak somewhere, probably a bad o-ring in the pump assembly. Getting tired this machine and trying to repair it. Too many frequent issues - time for a new one. Thanks for your video.
