Yours and Trenton's interactions with each other keeps me coming back it's a fun and informative environment which makes it entertaining
Kurt: “I like to have other people have a chance too.”
Wise words and much needed philosophy in a world of bourbon hoards and flippers.
I got a back up to my EH Taylor Small Batch at MSRP. They had 3 more bottles and I left them there for someone else. I did same with Jack Daniels SBBP RYE. I checked the following week and everything was gone. So, I know there were other happy people. 🎉🎉
"So shines a good deed in a weary world"
@@atg1338 I'm looking for a back up now. I'll be going into Atlanta Friday and look for it there. I'm half way on mine. JD SBBP RYE, Sagamore Cask strength, Hard Truth and Emerald Giant Cask strength are the Rye I seem to gravitate to at the moment.
So true
Back up for me are WR Double Oaked, Four Roses single barrel, OF 1910, and 1792. I think I need to get another Bakers though!
I was looking at our backups just the other day...
Widow Jane Decadence, John J Bowman Single Barrel, Henry McKenna 10-year, Eagle Rare 10-year, Buffalo Trace Single Barrel, Bardstown Origin Bottled in Bond, and Larceny Batch C922. Great show guys.
Those are my back ups except the Widow Jane but add Heaven Hill 7 bnb
My backups would be OF1910, OF1920, WT Rare Breed, Woodford Reserve Double, and JD single barrel barrel proof. TonyB
Why would you have backups of all bourbons that you can just easily find at any time? Don't get me wrong, these are all solid whiskeys, but they're not hard to find.
@@slvrbach fwiw I find JD SB BP is usually sold out in my area and the main online stores I use
Seagrass is an ongoing release. On the label you can actually find a small number on it that shows which batch it is.
Good to see Trenton back and well-rested from vacation! Would love to see his backup bottles as well.
Yes, case and all.😊
I second this 😁👍
Both of these guys are my favorite whiskey reviewers, I find myself looking through their videos before buying any bottles I haven’t bought before and I find them to be right on the money.
My key back-ups are Wild Turkey 101 and Knob Creek 12. Nothing fancy, but I sure don't want to run out. As someone who also lives in Indiana, I appreciate you only buying 1 back up at time. I struggle to find a lot of the different bourbons out there, yet see guys online posting that they just bought 12 bottles of allocated bourbons. So thank you for leaving some on the shelves are everyone else.
Cries in Montana
Agree on 101... I may be crazy but I actually prefer it over rare breed... Its definitely my "cheap" sipper.
How in the world can you go without these two; Old forester 1910, and Woodford Double Oak??
Yes!
100% on the 1910... And double oak is the best Woodford
Great call on the Woodford double oak.
Woodford Double Oak is always on my shelf
The OF1920 is good stuff too
Currently I have backups for Benchmark Bonded, so much carmel. Early Times BiB, because it's not available here and it's great for the price. 2 Eagle Rare 1.75 backups from 2011, got them on clearance for $50 a piece and open one for special occasions. Lastly Knob Creek Rye Cask Strength Batch 2. An awesome bottle that I hope they do again.
The bourbons I have back up bottles of are: Knob Creek 12, Eagle Rare, EH Taylor Small Batch, EH Taylor Single Barrel, Buffalo Trace, Early Times BIB, Heaven Hill 7 Year BIB, Henry McKenna 10 Year BIB, John J Bowman Single Barrel, MM 46 Cask Strength, MM BEP, OGD 114, OF SB BS, Belle Meade Reserve and Cooper’s Craft 100. 🥃
You are pretty fortunate you can get all of those. Where I live, even in a larger "state store", you'd only find knob creek 12 and MM46. You might find BT if you sleep outside the store when the truck with the one case comes twice a year if you're lucky.
Old Forester 1920 prohibition style is my constant reserve stock.
The first time i bought Glenallachie 12 after Ralfy talked it up, I paid $45 at Binny's. I think it's now $70!
I found these 375ml bottles with corks on Amazon. When my bottles go down to about half, I transfer the bourbon to those. I even use a hot water trick to peel off the labels and slap them on. I think it lowers the air exposure.
My current backups:
*Rebel 10 year SB
*Eagle Rare
*John J. Bowman SB
*ECBP C922
*Filibuster SB Single Estate
*Blanton's (only because I came across one at MSRP)
For me the answer is - with, of course, the rare exceptions - every bottle I like. Though it isn't because I hoard; it's because I'm extremely hesitant to crack my last bottle of something I like until I can buy a backup...
I had a tasting for friends over the weekend, and out of 25+ bottles, a John J. Bowman barrel pick was the clear winner. It was so good...
Backups are Four Roses Small Batch Select, Old Grandad 114, Balcones Pot Still Rye, Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Angel's Envy FInished Rye, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel, Larceny C921, and Teelings Small Batch.
I don't have backups, because if I did, my limited storage space would mean that I had two bottles of just three or four whiskies. I do, however, have a list of "standards," and I always have something from that list on hand. Among them are:
Knob Creek 9
Old Grand-Dad bonded
Old Forester 100
Wild Turkey 101
Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon
Balcones Baby Blue corn whisky
Evan Williams bottled in bond
Four Roses small batch
As for Old Grand-Dad 114, it's been out of stock here for six months at least.
Great show and appreciate the idea of just buying 1 backup. So many things are hard to find now it is refreshing to see you giving others a shot!
Is the next video going to be Trenton's bunker bottles?
The bottles I bunker:
Jack Daniel's Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Old Forester Signature 100 (buy it by the handle when it goes on sale)
There are many other bottles I'll pick up when I see them on sale (e.g., Rare Breed Bourbon and Knob Creek 12-year) and some that I make sure to always have 1 bottle on-hand (e.g., Middle West Ported Pumpernickel Rye and Booker's), but only JD & OF hit my palate squarely enough to justify bunkering. Slainte!
I only have a few backups, usually of bottles that aren't always available here. When they are in stock, I pick one up for the next dry spell.
Baker's 7, Heaven Hill BiB, Buffalo Trace, Springbank 10.
nice topic idea, guys! I'm pretty new to all of this (2-3 of years in) - I keep an extra Knob Creek 12, Henry McKenna (for some reason it is now pretty widely available again near me), Calumet 16 and Innkeeper's Blend. Also, a few Buffalo Trace for guests, summer drinks. I see Seagrass in nearly every store here (Mpls), so I don't get too worried about missing it.
Always have backups: E H Taylor small batch, Knob Creek 9 year, Eagle Rare. Great show! Happy sipping!
Last night i grabbed the last 2 bottles of Belle Meade Reserve at the local Total Wine for 121$ total... awesome stuff.
Only back up bottle I have right now is old forster 100 proof thats my go to daily sipper. Several I wished I had back ups for but my collection is small and tried to build it up with variety. Up to around 30 bottles now
I'm so glad someone else appreciates ECBP B520. I'm sitting on a bottle of it right now for backup or trade, because I loved it so much. I don't think Heaven Hill has put out a batch I liked as much since.
Summer old fashioned?? WE NEED A RECIPE!!!
it has pineapple, that could be interesting for sure
In a previous video, but it’s the following:
- 2oz barrell seagrass bourbon
- 1/4oz liber & co pineapple gum syrup
- pour over block of ice / stir
Which video? Can’t find it.
Old Grand-Dad 114 is considered allocated in Indiana at the moment. My local shops in central Indiana is having a really hard time getting it. My regular shop is keeping them behind the counter for loyal customers. I bought one of them last week for $22.99
KURT!!! This was awesome!!! My back up bottles are: Campari, Beef eater gin, Cocchi de Torino Vermouth, and PiuCinque gin!!!
I like to always have OF 1915 and 1920 on hand. Knob Creek 9 and Four Roses Single Barrel as well. Before it disappeared I stocked up on Evan Williams Vintage Single Barrel.
I've only ever overstocked on Makers 46 because my local liquor store had it perpetually $10 off MSRP so I'd buy 2-3 bottles and restock when I got down to 1. I have a hard time tying up money in backups of fancy bottles when I'd rather find a new bottle I haven't tried usually. Anything that's a must have should generally be on the shelf somewhere near me.
My backups... Evan Williams 12 year, Wild Turkey 12, Weller 107, Eagle Rare, EH Taylor Barrel Proof, Old label Rebel Yell 10 year, Jack Daniels Barrel Proof, Mid Winters Night Dram...
Woodward Reserve Double Oaked and Four Roses Single Batch are my main backups.
Wow - I can’t believe you like both of these - DO is my fave, but I really don’t care for the Four Roses at all. Palates are so interesting…
I can still get OGD 114 for $25 in CO. I have 2 backup bottles.. anticipating it becoming scarce
Got a single barrel suggestion for y’all. It’s Driftless Glen single barrel. This was the bottle that started the obsession with whiskey. The distillery has a fun story and for $40 at Binny’s, the juice is pretty tasty. Not sure if you’ve tried it yet but think you’d enjoy it.
When I was in Texas recently I found OGD 114 for $25 at several stores. I passed because it’s not one of my favorites and I had limited room for bringing bottles home. But I was impressed with the price!
OGD 114 is crazy here in IN. Just about a year or two ago we could find this everywhere and overnight POOF, gone. I've seen a few in the Valparaiso area recently but not much else around.
I live in Rhode Island and have been getting Eagle Rare and Buffalo Trace for 29.99 and 22.99 respectively. Needless to say I have backups of these bottles.
As always, great video!
Being new to the Bourbon world y'all have helped me out starting my liquor room.
Thanks to you both.
My favorite to have a back up of is New Riff Malted Rye
Old Grand dad 114, Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Glenns Creek OCD #5, ET BIB, Eagle Rare, JTS Brown BIB, Four Roses SB, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, and OF 100
My back ups are Willet Rye, Old Forester 1910, Buffalo Trace, Old Grand Dad 114
Great vid! Everyone always talks about hunting bottles and having special ones but it is nice to see the bottles that whisky enthusiasts actual want to make sure they keep on hand and why. A couple of surprises in there too! Very nicely done.
C919, Springbank local barley 2020,2021, and 2022. Springbank cask strength 12 year batches 18-23. Mostly single malt, but I always buy two bottles of each when I find 4R private barrels
I would have thought there would be more bottles like the Weller Antique in this video, since it's not always easy to find. You really don't need backup bottles if you can just go to the liquor store on any given day and find another of these bottles.
Kurt... how do you make your "Summer Old Fashion" using Barrel Seagrass and what else would you use as an alternative whiskey?
Glad to see Trenton back! Y’all rock together. My backups are RR 10, RR SB, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blantons, EC SB and Old Grandad 114.
Key backups for me that I always stock up on are Early Times BiB and Eagle Rare.
Talking about mispriced bottles, I got a bardstown west Virginia great barrel company bottle (159 msrp) for 59.99. I managed to get the last one, but my friends all got one too. Also, in MD, OGD 114 is still around 20-25 dollars in practically every store
We absolutely backup Old Ezra 7 Rye, Jack Daniels Barrel Proof, Old Forester 1910, Rare Breed, Early Times BIB, and we definitely back up our favorite ECBP…right now we are loving C9/21 which we can still find in a store a short drive away.
OGD114 couldn't be found for a while here, and now it's showing up more and more thankfully.
No joke, Costco in Lexington KY had bottles of Old Grandad 114 for $16.99. blew my mind and bought 2.
I just seen 10 bottles of the Barrel Seagrass at our local Sam's Club. I've tried Rye whiskeys, so I will try this one and buy a backup before they're gone.
I always have 2 bottles of OF1910(my sipper) and a handle of OF100(my mixer). I'll mix in a bottle of Rare Breed hear and there also the Woodford double oaked. Great list guys.
Ha! Nevermind Kurt, I found it on your favorite Whiskey 2021 video. Yall are awesome. Merry Christmas again.
My backups:
Wild Turkey 101, Russel’s 10, OGD114, John J Bowman SiB, EHTaylor Small Batch, Woodford Reserve, Peerless Double Oak
I will always have a bottle of Old Bushmill's Black Bush. I bought my first bottle the day before my son was due to be born. He was a week late, but every year, on his birthday, I have a dram of this. It's an excellent, reasonably priced Irish Whiskey, but I only drink it on his birthday. I'm on my third or fourth bottle now, He'll be 20 next year (legal age in Japan) and I hope that he will share a pour on that day, if he's not too cool for his dad.
OF1920 for me, always on hand. Usually 1792 Full Proof as well.
I actually only have 1 backup --- a 14yr MGP Rya - Mt. Vernon Maryland Heritage Series. Everything else is 1 and done.
Costco near me sells the Rare Breed for $35, always has it in stock
Our back ups are Wellar antique 107 and old elk Arminaque and Old Elk wheated.
Off my memory, my back up whiskies are Ledaig 10, Kilkerran 12, Red Spot, Green Spot Chateau Montelena, Tomatin 14, Aberlour A''Bundh, Scallywag 10, Alberta Premium Cask Strength. I have bavk up for Armagnacs and Brandies plus one for 3 Key gin.
Woodfords Double oak, Blantons, are two I’ll keep having backups of. And I have 3-4 Buffalo trace. I love it as my value drink and typically I take a sip of that to warm my mouth up for anything I drink. I have 2 of eh Taylor and eagle rare and I think wellers. But that was just cause my wife and I have been to the BT distillery. Bottles I’ll def replace if or when I finish are Hayden basil, JT Meleck and smoke wagon.
Cheers guys!! great video and nice selection!
On my backups stash I always keep ECBP's and Russel's Single Barrels without question. I also have a few extra store picks for (Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, 1792 BiB, Elijah Craig small batch, & George Dickel 15 yr.) Non-store picks, OGD114, Evan Williams Single Barrel & Balcones Single Malt special releases. Lastly I kept a set of the Smoke Wagon UNUF & Small batch of when they were bottled in the Clear Bottles.
Outstanding as always guys! My current backup bottles are WTRB & WRDO
SCOTCH: Highland Park 12, Ardbeg Uigedail, Ardbeg Correyvrecken, Ledaig 10, Bunnahabhain 12.
BOUBON/WHISKEY: Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof, Old Forester 1920, Red Breast 12 Cask Strength, Knob Creek 9.
Remus Repeal V, Larceny Barrel Proof c922, Sam Houston 15 and a couple of regulars, Sagamore Spirits Double Oak and EH Taylor Small Batch
My back ups are Kentucky Vintage, Wild Turkey 101, Buffalo Trace, High Double Rye PX Sherry finish, Makers Mark 46. I need to add Sagamore barrel select, have about 10% missing from the bottle but won't touch it until I find another.... Also wish to add Blue Run Emerald Rye. That bottle is freckin delicious, my current bottle only has 40% remaining after 3 months & I haven't found another one at a decent price but its too damn good not to go back to for a pour.
Woodford Double Oak (but a store pick) will be my next backup bottle I'm about to buy. I just used my back up of Buffalo Trace at my friends last poker night. And I have a store pick of Knob Creek single barrel that I got because it was on clearance at my local Woodmans. I wish i had picked up a couple for the price, but for $34, it was a must for at least one more.
Great to have Trenton back and refreshed. As far as backup bottles go, I can only claim Eagle Rare, Stagg, and Buffalo Trace at this point. I wish I had a backup for my Heaven Hill BiB, OGD114, Cooper's Craft 100, and RR13. Maybe someday. Cheers.
My backups Weller 107, Evan Williams Single barrel, EH Taylor SB, Old Forster SB, JD SBBP, Early Times BIB, Eagle Rare, and (2) unopened Old Fitz 19 year
Welcome back Trenton! I LOVE OF Rye! Was able to nab some while visiting KY. They don’t have it here in MO. Wish I woulda grabbed two bottles!
I have backups of Woodinville Moscatel, Antique 107, and Widow Jane Decadence. I just immediately loved them on first sip and knew I needed a backup.
Disclaimer: I live in Japan and bourbons are limited in selection here.
Backup bottles: Wild Turkey CGF, Wild Turkey Kentucky Legend (donut bottle), Wild Turkey 12, Rare Breed non-chill filtered, Wild Turkey 101 8 year, Evan Williams 12, Blanton’s Takara Red & Black, EH Taylor Small Batch.
A few Japanese - Nikka Yoichi & Miyagikyo, Yoichi Salty & Peaty, Yoichi Woody & Vanilla, Yoichi Sherry & Sweet
You have a limited selection of things we never see in America lol pretty sure some of those are Japan only releases
ECBP B520 is my favorite version too. If you like Westward, you should try the Stout Cask finish. It's the best out of their line-up that's publicly available. It impresses non-whiskey drinkers and the experienced as well
Wild Turkey RB and I really enjoy Burning Chair. Those are a couple I always have backups for. Great Video fellas! Cheers!
I´ve bought the last 4 bottles of Rare Breedfor 27€ back in 2022. Got still 3 on the shelf :)
Nice lineup. I can agree to the WT rare breed. I would also add Redwood empire lost monarch, Bardstown origin series white label, and eagle rare. Great video!
Mike here from Texas, I keep back up’s for Wild Turkey 101 , Buffalo Trace & Four Roses Small Batch Select!
The big question is.
Why couldn't Trent line up the Wild Turkey RB bottle appropriately?
Looked at it 5 times and still didn't turn it. Just cruel for us with ocd.
Always enjoy y'all. Your content is as much entertainment as reviews and suggestions. Keep up what you do! Currently I only have 2 bottles backed-up. They are Widow Jane Decadence and Belle Meade Reserve. If I could find ASW Fiddler Georgia Heartwood and Bladnoch Vinaya (I know it is a Scotch), these would backup the bottles I have now.
This was a great line up!
You guys got me started on the OF Rye 100. I have 3 bottles total.
Cant wait for this! Cheers from the Prairies of Canada! 🥃
My Backup bottles.
2XO
Henry McKenna 10
Blantons
Larceny B523
Stagg 22A
J Henry (Cognac finished)
Heaven Hill 7YR BIB
Love watching you guys. I wish that I could do with only one back up of my favorites. I have some with multiple back ups. Like OWA107, one open and 4 back ups.
Great topic! I'm still early in my Bourbon Journey but so far my current rebuys are KC9, Russels 10, ECBP, 4 Roses Sib, Rare breed, & Barrel Bourbon.
Welcome back Trenton, great episode as well.
Great idea, I’m sure other channels will follow with there backup bottles! I have, Rare Breed & RB rye, Russell’s 10 & Single barrel, JJBowman single barrel, 2@ Baker’s 7, Bookers Charlie’s, OF 1910 &1920, E Craig small batch, Knob Creek 12, Knob Creek single barrel, Redwood Empire lost monarch, J Daniels SB select, JDSBBP, and 2@ Sagamore PX finish.
I switch up what I drink a lot, esp. over the summer months but I always seem to have extra Makers 46 and Balcones Baby Blue.
I tend to get two of store pick single barrels when its a bourbon I'm fond of. Recently Fiddler released Georgia Heartwood as store picks so I picked up two and I ran across a 1792 Single Barrel store pick so I got two of those as well.
ECBP several versions, Blantons always good as a gift especially when found at a warehouse store, Col EHT small batch & single barrel, WTRB, ECTB, HH BIB, KC12 and Larceny BP C922! Cheers 🥃
Bib & Tucker, I will always buy another one when I finish a bottle
I keep a backup of Wild Turkey 101 and Rare Breed. I also keep a spare Four Roses Single Barrel and a Larceny Small Batch. I'm going to pick up The Old Grandad 114
I have a back up of Very Old Barton for my Old Fashions (the bubble gum taste with some jacked up bitters)! Also, always save some Dram to do a blind with current Four Roses SiB and the back up newly cracked.
Can't find Weller antique in Ohio regularly but love it! My backups are old granddad 114, Buffalo Trace, wild turkey 101 and bulleit rye. Going to pick up a bottle of Old Forester rye tomorrow because they are readily available in Ohio. Love your show!
Heaven Hill Green Label Old Style Bourbon, 6 yr, 90 proof. Was my dad's favorite. Very hard to find.
I’m glad you bought a case I was looking into that too. I heard they were discontinuing as well.
