This RIVERS holding some CRAZY GOLD NUGGETS!!

  • My last prospecting adventure scored me around $1000 dollars of Tasmanian gold. We also carried in tools including a dolly pot to try and determine the source of the gold being found in the river.
Exploring the surrounding hills and crushing some of the ore in the area to try and locate the golds source. My plan this time was to return to the river again and test some of the bedrock from the riverbed itself, but with wild weather and the dead of winter set in here in Tasmania this testing will have to wait. In todays video we jump back in time to when the river was yielding good amounts of alluvial gold nuggets and my goal will be to collect as much as I possibly can with the two days I have to spend.

After going dredging for the first time last week, I have a whole new level of appreciation the hard work you do, Levi. That time in the water, cold water, and moving all those cobbles by hand can really wear you out. Not to mention the long treks through dense forest and steep terrain carrying your camp and firewood, too (just unbelievable).

A hot mix of minerals ( in liquid form )and gold, silver, copper all come up in solution and fill the gaps and depends what kind of rock. I saw box quarts in one of your videos (quarts surrounded by mineralization looked real promising.

The shattered quarts and chaotically folded squished-taffy look of the native rock suggests to me that you were working in a fault zone or shear zone. The black rock shows ductile deformation, but the quartz shows brittle deformation by shattering. The last fault movement period was likely post-quartz veins, but that doesn't mean the fault wasn't there before the veins. It's always good to have faults around when prospecting. Good things happen around faults.

The gold grains are all rounded so they have been transported downstream some distance and haven’t come out of the quartz vein you were working (that vein however can also contain gold). The ironstone they’re covered in is oxidised sulphide minerals (most likely pyrite) that originally accompanied the gold.

A fine adventure, Levi, and a very nice total, the nuggets are beauties. I find it very troubling that there seems no end to which natural and civic rights that people have held precious throughout the centuries, are ripe for being ripped away, thoughtlessly for the consequences. In some places, you're still entitled to herd your sheep over bridges on those market days still active on the books, you'll be aware of the old song, Scarborough Fair, parsely, sage, rosemary, and thyme - all go nicely with lamb, not coincidentally!, still a monthly market day. These would still be promulgated for many places in Tasmania, other Australian states and the territories, and throughout the other Commonwealth countries. I can't believe you're required to take in your own firewood, you'd have in Tasmania I'd imagine the same small roadside firewood collecting fee as we have in Victoria, from fallen logs and fuel reduction efforts, collection points for people in the country who don't have enough felled timber on their land for their own fireplace, or friends or neighbours to call on. There isn't a Bunnings or Mitre 10 every ten kilometres, is there? Trailer loads for $50?! Bull**it! At parks, aren't the PWS leaving cut logs at designated campsites, and aren't you allowed to take those for your own use, beyond that campground they're left at? Or are they shutting the gates, turning off the taps, making you freeze in century-old shelters and huts with fireplaces you're not allowed to use, despite the cut logs and sign enticing you into legal entrapment by the park director, and letting tracks and bridges fall into ruin and close as too dangerous, then charging exorbitant fees, after fixing for glamour, accommodation what used to be free, and given as natural rights, birthright, citizenship or loyal subjects, with access to parks, gardens and reserves, town commons to graze your sheep, roadside reserves and watering holes for droving your cattle, free truck rest stops... Are all your parties just letting this gloomy future take shape? Are the region's populations not able to take back the initiative on this? Towns letting themselves be blocked off by miners and foresters, drive another hour to get around for a few trucks a day, and the roads left unrepaired, after? Have these companies no mutual obligations?
Here in Victoria, it's rather quiet, despite it being the 170th anniversary of the Eureka Stockade, the one major event that forged our basic democratic rights. Too quiet, said Roobarb to Custard...

Outstanding outing. Btw…observation. You’re getting the gold that’s on the surfaces of gold bearing rock. That rock (primarily quartz) contains gold also. Were that rock be on surface miners would be “hard-rock” mining it to get the gold contained within. I suggest taking a chisel & hammer underwater and fracturing the bedrock prospecting deep within the rock. Thanks.
