I was planning on coming here with my family. Was looking forward to riding this impressive coaster. Question is the park still worth going to despite it missing it's top #2?
Not a great time for S&S's big headliner coasters, all told. They seem to have replaced Intamin as the company most likely to take a big swing and end up in trouble.
I hope they do fix it, but I'm feeling pessimistic about it. They tried to fix the ride for months/years at a time and still to no avail. I think S&S was the worst choice for a coaster this ambitious. If they are planning for the next coaster, I hope they choose a more reputable manufacturer.
@@CanobieCoaster Yes, they have the be in sync. By the way, I'm on holiday in Japan, right now. I just rode Steel Dragon 2000, Hakugei and Acrobat. Steel Dragon made me scream like a girl. So intimidating to a coaster rookie like me.
The supports are likely the problem with this ride. They are too thin and need extra support added for next year to ensure that the ride can sustain its positive Gs without cracks in the structure. That and the uneven weight of the trains explains why there are concerns with this ride’s reliability because it’s one of the first of its kind for S&S given all of the different inversions.
Visually, the structure actually looks quite stable. But of course I don't have a 3D model to really calculate the forces. The layout with the high rail parts is somewhat reminiscent of Der Schwur des Kärnan. I'm guessing that's where the structural problems arise. Kärnan has been criticized by many for the large number of supports in this area because it supposedly doesn't look good. But it seems necessary to give the structure the necessary strength. Perhaps S&S has designed this area too weakly in the Steel Curtain, because compared to Kärnan it looks more delicate. Of course, these are all just speculations; for example, I don't know how thick the walls in the supports are. Maybe S&S uses thicker walls than Gerstlauer and therefore needs fewer supports. It was just noticeable that the structure of Steel Curtain looks more delicate with fewer supports than comparable roller coasters.
I went to Kennywood in August last year, and while I wouldn't dare ride something like Steel Curtain, my dad was a bit bummed it was closed. Hopefully it's fixed and comes back.
First Rampage, now this. Apparently Iron Menace has a nasty rattle, and Flash hasn't even gone vertical yet. Several "New for 2024 rides" have already been delayed for next year. Not a great start to the year, I'll say that much. 🙁
All B&Ms have rattles without full trains, so that's 100% the reason why. The worst ride I've ever had on any coaster was Goliath, in the back row without a full train, because all my other rides in the back were perfectly fine, and it's one of my favorite B&M Hypers.
@@HugeRMCFanBoY-bx3od Rattles are one thing, track imperfections are another. The reason why Kraken and Firebird are two of my bottom ranking B&Ms are because they are littered with potholes that ruin the ride experience. Candymonium had a terrible rattle opening year (pandemic), but I have found it to be getting smoother and smoother over the years. It will be interesting if Iron Menace has any modifications to help smoothen it out...

I can cross this park off my list of possible visits this year then because steel curtain would be my main want to ride
Phantom is the best ride there, but this is a buzzkill.
CROSS IT OFF PERMANENTLY . THE CRIME AREA & THE COST OF ADDMISSION ? TRULY GETTING ROBBED TWICE
WHY?!! As soon as I have time to go, I’m local, the ride I want to ride is closed.😭😭😭😭😭 Haven’t been there in 6 years.
It has been closed for many, which is why they're taking steps to hopefully fix it for good.
YOU'RE NOT MISSING ANYTHING & SAVING ENORMOUS EXPENSE FINANCIALLY
They didnt announce it so they could sell as many season passes as possible
I imagine a lot of passholders may be complaining about this today.
Are you gonna ride Hot Wheels: Twin Mill Racer?
When it opens, hopefully.
What a MESS!! Wow! This coaster has NEVER had a successful full season run since it opened. VERY Telling! Guess I won't be going to Kennywood this year, or probably the year after either, at this rate!! 😮🎉
As someone who has Kennywood as my home park, imagine how frustrated we feel. However, everyone saying their no visiting this year is fine by me. Smaller lines for Phantom!
2022 seems like the best year and even then, it was closed for a few weeks.
@@jpgiles1725 Have fun!!
AND THE RATE OF ADDMISSION ? RENDERS THE FACILITY NON AFFORDABLE FOR WORKING FAMILIES
@@tommyrregina1227 I agree everything is expensive this year. If you want discounted tickets to Kennywood. They have $30 tickets right now. Now would be the time to get them
Soooo annoying I got a season pass for this year I didn’t know it was gonna be closed the whole season :( it looks so insane whenever I go it’s so sad I can’t go on
I feel bad for passholders who bought passes for this ride.
Maybe this is why no one has ever designed a coaster like this ? It literally looks like a drunk person designed it. Lol
I hope they can fix whatever is wrong with this extended closure.
ENOUGH DRUNK'S FROM THE AREA TO CHOOSE FROM
Just tear that eye sore down all ready and build us the new wooden coaster kennywood needs
Once its fix they really need to fix the lift speed so that the cycle time isn't so ridiculously long. Especially since they tend to run one train much of the time.
That would help with capacity.
In 2022, I bought Speedy Pass so I could marathon Steel Curtain. It was the right choice.
Nice!
The funny thing is the steel curtain is higher than the sky coaster but in this picture they look the exact same height
It's all about perspective.
I knew this ride was problematic, I knew it since the opening year of 2019.
I hope this fixes the issues at last.
So you're saying it's a problematic roller coaster. Sound's familiar for some reason...
Russell Wilson goes to the Steelers. Steel Curtain closes for the 2024 season. It's his fault! Case closed!
Let's ride!
I was planning on coming here with my family. Was looking forward to riding this impressive coaster. Question is the park still worth going to despite it missing it's top #2?
Yes, Phantom is their best ride and significantly better. Then the park has several other good rides.
@@CanobieCoaster Thanks God willing it'll be our first time visiting so I'm not sure what to expect.
Very odd support structure.
Definitely odd.
Not a great time for S&S's big headliner coasters, all told. They seem to have replaced Intamin as the company most likely to take a big swing and end up in trouble.
They don't have the best track record.
I hope they do fix it, but I'm feeling pessimistic about it. They tried to fix the ride for months/years at a time and still to no avail. I think S&S was the worst choice for a coaster this ambitious. If they are planning for the next coaster, I hope they choose a more reputable manufacturer.
I'm guessing the past structural fixes have been bandaids. This sounds like a surgery.
@@CanobieCoaster I hope
Rebuild year for the Steelers.
And this ride.
Well done. I was wondering what the issue is
Thanks!
Noooo. Were planning a trip there this year 😭. And now I’m gonna miss one of the top rides there
It's still an awesome park, but it is a bummer.
SAVE YOUR 💰
They should have gotten that Mack 🖥️ or a (B&M) 😢
Probably would have been open more, but also costlier.
B&M could have been the better one.
Bring in rmc.
Lol
They should’ve gone for the rumored rmc or gci lmao
I like the ride if they can get it running regularly.
Morgan needs to work their magic and renovate it into Curtains' Revenge
That would be funny.
This doesn’t surprise me, this thing is more unreliable then most intamin hydraulic launch coasters.
Sadly
The supports are likely the problem with this ride. They are too thin and need extra support added for next year to ensure that the ride can sustain its positive Gs without cracks in the structure.
That and the uneven weight of the trains explains why there are concerns with this ride’s reliability because it’s one of the first of its kind for S&S given all of the different inversions.
I hope they can fix the supports if that's the issue.
NOT WORTH THE SAFETY RISK OF LOVED ONE'S
As a lifelong steelers fan this is my #1 bucket list ride
Not a fan of that football team, but I like the ride.
Bro 4 years of being problematic
Unfortunately.
Just remove it at this point lmao
I would prefer they fix it.
Only the park and S&S truly know the answer. I can only speculate based off rumors and what has been observed.
NOT WORTH PERMANENT INJURY OR DEATH
Better safe than sorry.
I hope this finally makes it reliable.
I went to Kennywood in August last year, and while I wouldn't dare ride something like Steel Curtain, my dad was a bit bummed it was closed. Hopefully it's fixed and comes back.
Hopefully!
@@redwolfcorprevamped8266riders have said Iron Menace is very smooth there is just one rattle right before the brake run.
@@redwolfcorprevamped8266yes candymonium very smooth i agree (i love candymonium)
Iron Menace sounds good minus the last turn.
The supports don't allow for swaying on areas with high g-forces.
Maybe it's overconstrained then in some areas.
structural issues?? this is a fail on the manufacturer for sure. atleast kennywood will have an insurance claim at worst.
I don't know who is getting the blame here. I suspect there have been legal precedings in the background.
MANY MORE INSURANCE CLAIMS AFTER INJURY / DEATH OF RIDERS
TBH they are probably going to give this ride the Gale Force treatment.
With Gale Force, the issue was the track. The rumors here are that the issues are the supports.
I bet the Steelers fans are gonna be protesting like crazy to Kennywood.
If they get a cut of merchandise sales, they could.
lmao fr when is this open?
2022 for the most part.
It's time to get Chance Rides to remove the inversions, replace it with the airtime hills and bunny hops, and calls it Curtain's Revenge. (Joke)
Lol
Definitely sucks its closed but this park is still worth a visit. I Liked phantoms revenge and jackrabbit more than this anyways The overall charm of the park is worth it. The only negative I experienced was the employees.
I love the park. I've had good interactions with the employees.
@CanobieCoaster Probably just an off day. You know how operations can be Just dealing with a lot of people on a hot day.
You need to work on your intonation; you're using the same intonation for each sentence which makes it sound like theres no story. It sounds like one big sentence, with no pull, push, draw or anything. Are you doing it deliberately?
Sorry, I can try to work on that.
