This was Janet at her peak to me. Nobody was messing with her during this era. These were the good ole days. I miss being a kid in the 90s, literally the best era of music.
pdgf During this period I loved Mariah more in passing and Janet was my main focus, but I ended up becoming the biggest lamb once the Fantasy video dropped in 1995.
@@pdgf What is point of bringing up Mariah's achievements on his review of a Janet video? It is to discredit Janet. Dude, I can bring up many Janet accolades that Mariah has not touched nor will ever.
The chemistry was real because most of the people in the video were her dancers. She always cultivates a very close relationship and bond with the people she tours with. JLO as well. She actually started as a dancer on the show In Living Color and danced for Janet for a little while before her career took off.
Your comments are gold Jack! “She’s all like….’nah, I don’t wanna play it….’ yeah because she knew she had some fire and didn’t wanna burn the place down…” 😂
The Velvet Rope is still Janet’s masterpiece. That said, she delivered six great albums from 1986-2008: Control, Rhythm Nation, Janet, Velvet Rope, All For You, Discipline. Get into it. Can’t Be Stopped.
DeshaunX I agree, Damita Jo is a good album and sounds great as well. Not a Masterpiece as these named, but is runner up after these 6. Unbreakable is a good album as well!
Aaron Sanders Discipline, though not as consistent as All For You or The Velvet Rope, is far better than the two uninspired albums that preceded it. Feedback, LUV, Rollercoaster, Rock With U, So Much Betta, What’s Ur Name, and Curtains are the best songs on the album.
Love this song. Yes that is Jennifer Lopez in the video :). This song was written and produced by Janet and jimmy jam and terry lewis. Was #1 for 8 weeks and won a Grammy for best r&b song 😉. Do more Janet 👍🏽👍🏽
A lot of the people in this video are Janet dancers that’s why the chemistry is so strong, J Lo originally started as a Fly Girl(In Living Color Dancer) then became a backup dancer for Janet doing the “Janet” era, she left right before they shot the “If” video...also RIP to Keith Williams he is the chocolate 🍫 skin gentleman dancing with Janet throughout the video, he passed a few years back.
We loved this video when it came out. This was Janet at her peak, her allowing more of her soft sensual side to show. We all said oh hey Janet go ahead girl!
the girl in the striped shorts that you was referring to her name is Tish Oliver she was a big dancer in the 80s and the 90s she also appeared and Janet's Brother video Remember the Time
This song was the first release off the Janet album which came after Rhythm Nation album, so everyone was expecting her to come at us with some hard beats and huge choreography but she handed us this groove and took it to another level😍
The 2 big samoan dudes in the video are Kobra and Ganxta Ridd. Theyre from a rap group called Boo Ya Tribe. Theyre also well respected Blood gang members in California.
LOL @ "Okay my white brethren...get some." 😂 The sample is from James Brown "Papa Don't Take No Mess". On RUclips there's a 'Deconstructing Janet Jackson's That's the Way Love Goes" that's pretty dope if you have 5min. Oh & if you like this track's vibe, you'll LOVE "Got 'Til It's Gone" feat. Q-Tip.
I honestly love pretty much every one of her albums but for me this was my favorite era. She perfected these type of slow r&b smooth tracks and they just go sooo good with her voice. Her sound, her look, her videos at this time were just far above other artists charting at the time. If you want to see recent performances from her I have her 2017 State of the World tour that I edited out of hundreds of clips I downloaded, on my channel. She was fifty years old at the time of that tour, just had a baby, and still danced her ass off.
The chemistry was fire because they were her backup dancers. The one with the short hair is Tina her choreographer that she’s been friends with for 4 decades now. Janet and Aaliyah were the most loyal employers to their entourage/friends/team.
Janet Jackson has the distinction of being MTV's first ICON. I can't remember when it aired but N'SYNC was still together and they performed this song. It was a decent homage, but nobody can do this song but Janet. But I lean more towards ballads and "Again," is one of my favorites from Janet.
This is my favorite Janet Jackson song. It's just so smooth. But my favorite Janet video is Alright please if you do another Janet video choose Alright it's a classic.
Those actors are Janets background dancers that she brought to the forefront. She shines light on her dancers, that for some, has set the stage for even bigger things in their careers. Jlo, Tyce Diorio (So u think u can dance judge) Jenna Dewan, Paula Abdul (who was her choreographer @ one point) and a few others. That interaction is very genuine. Those dancers became her family.
Jack, the answer to your question for the producers are none other than JIMMY JAM AND TERRY LEWIS - they produced most of Janet's best songs on many of her albums. They're insanely talented, previously apart of a group under Prince when they got their beginnings in Minnesota in the late 70's/early 80's. Production is on point every time. They also did many great songs for Usher like 'You Remind Me'. Check out their discography, as well. You won't be disappointed.
The thing with janet,is in her videos are her and her she calls her dancers her kids,so that chemistry is real.I love how you vibe to her sound and her beats, she's an amazing beautiful woman and so unique and this song I too put on repeat over again. You can put her on and just dream falling into her sensual angelic vocals and especially the slower tracks. You need to see her live performances and the choreography to this track, amazing!!!
There’s a pretty good audio doc about janet, jimmy jam and terry lewis about their music making over 30 years by john cameroen i recommend that if you wanna learn more about the music thru all of janet’s songs. Jimmy said he created this beat and thought it was dope but when janet first heard it she wasn’t impressed but she took the demos with her on vacation and when she came back she said she couldn’t turn this track off! the words and melody also just came to her
I will date myself with this but this album came out when I was like 16 and she did her thing on this album is one of my favorites of all time. I hope you listened to her Anytime Anyplace which is on the same album.

That’s jimmy jam and terry Lewis on the track with a James brown sample on the guitars and the honeydrippers on that drum sample. This album was really hip hop inspired as far as drums go; and soul inspired with the samples (if had a Diana Ross and the supremes sample). Jam and Lewis threw the rock guitars and rnb keys. All the different mashups of styles + the extreme layering of background vocals and harmonies made the album JANET. one of the most eclectic I’ve ever heard from her. It so urban but at the same time pop all the way back in the early 90s before that even really was happening a lot. Jimmy and Terry are fire.
