Fun fact: Janet does all her own background vocals. All her vocals are stacked with her singing a melody in different tones to make this smooth yet crisp vocal harmony. The Jacksons are very well known for their block vocal harmonies.
This is widely considered to be one of Janet's best songs, if not her best, and that dance breakdown is the arguably the best of her entire videography, which is saying something as she has had so many memorable dance sequences.
FUN FACT: This music video is known to be the first video to have touch screens before touch screens was even a thing Janet was always ahead of her time 🙌
Yes she grabbed him lol. She's freaky and we love it. She even grabs volunteer fans when she brings them on stage for lap dancing segment at her concerts before. She Making dreams come true lol
i’m so happy young people around my age are finally getting into janet’s classics! she was the only jackson who made it out of michael’s shadow! it was a tough journey with two poorly successful album for her to gain the respect as an actual artist, her control era really proved she was a force to be reckoned with. but she really pushed for the advocacy for social issues like racism and sexism in the late 80’s with her rhythm nation 1814 album! she was the blue print for artists like beyoncé, mya, ciara and etc. when her self-titled era -which this music video is from- came into motion she really surprised the general public! she became VERY sexual, she was always known to wear turtlenecks and military inspired wear so no one expected her to show her body and talk about sex. remember this was the early 90’s and not many black woman at the time talked so explicitly about their sexuality. this was a huge risk that played off very well to her legacy. she was ridiculed like every woman who wanted to talk about sex during that time but that didn’t stop her for continuing such a trailblazer. it’s so sad that her legacy has been buried because of one performance, the nipplegate. i would go more in-depth on the performance but i believe this video is more insightful ruclips.net/video/L-pXDufn1IY/видео.html! i urge you to do more reactions and more research into her past! keep doing these great reactions, i hope you have more and great success!
Those very first two albums were actually successful world wide as they went gold but I get what your saying. In terms of production and brevity the albums moving forward from that period starting with the “Control” album had a far more larger impact in terms of sales and global impact and it made her a real player in the music industry especially where her brother was concerned. Fun Facts: they had a listening party for the control album and all her brothers showed up and Michael was the only one who hadn’t showed up. Her brothers gave her the green light and Micheal was said to be envious and didn’t talk to her for two wks after having listened to the control album but later told her how excited he was for her and eventually got around to congratulating her.
Janet to this day is the only female artist that doesn't throw ass around consistently and call it dancing. Made for now is her latest track and the video is fire. Doesn't really matter vma live performance with the rock mix is a flawless performance.
As a HUGE Janet fan, there is nothing more that I love than seeing someone else appreciating her & giving her the love & props that she deserves & has earned!!! Janet is everything!!!! I’ve seen her about 9 times in concert...she is a true legend & humble human being! I always love watching the making of this video! It’s on RUclips...it just makes you want to be right in there with the other dancers (aka the kids) Side note: Janets live performance on MTV VMAs in 1993 of “That’s The Way Love Goes” & “If” will forever be one of my favorite performances ever!!! That is also on RUclips! In the ‘90s I would record everything Janet that was on TV onto my VHS tapes! She is the reason I got into dance! 👑🖤👑🖤 #IMissThe90s
@@arianaharris3124 In the very beginning but Tina Landon is known for choreographing Janet till this day. She is almost in every video. She is always front and in this video she has the short angled bob hairstyle. Tina is amazing and is up there with Laurieann Gibson.

Janet is the underrated queen! There are so many videos you should do! “That’s the way love goes”, “You want this”, “Alright”, “Escapade”, “Alright”, “Doesn’t Really Matter”, “Rhythm Nation”... sooooooo many! Enjoy!
Janet is no where near underrated. 10 Billboard number one hits, most awarded female artist of all time behind Whitney, number one albums in every decade since the 80s, Rock and Roll Hall all of Fame, in top 10 of Billboard's artists of all time, major influence on every female artist that came after her etc.
@@natyra22 yeah she has definitely achieved a lot but she’s still underrated because despite achieving all this, many people still fail to give her credit and recognise her impact unfortunately
Hey Jack, nice reaction. She is an awesome dancer. If you are familiar with Paula Abdul, most people know her as a singer but she is a choreographer and she gave Janet some choreography lessons back in the day. I have to go grab some dinner so peace out! Have an awesome weekend!
Jack a little info Janet, was reluctant to show her mothe the video for fear of her reaction. She thought her mother would strongly disapprove. Her mother thought it was too sexualized.
I haven't even seen the video, but I had to just let you know, as a 58 yr old man, I get alot out of you reviews. The detail you provide, attention to metaphor & meaning makes me look at these videos in a whole new light. Thank you for loving our girl & being a top notch reviewer.👌🏾💞
I just found your channel and I'm loving the vibe so I had to subscribe! Damn Janet just does not miss! I'm in my 40 so I was in high school in this came out and I had more Janet Jackson posters on my wall and you could ever imagine 🤣 she's just so talented!
Best Janet song, best Janet dancing, best message in a song, is Rhythm Nation. So iconic. So militant. Message is still relevant today. You gotta watch that one.
Jimmy Jam (one of her long time producers) gave her the melody, and asked her if she could sing the song in “Indian Chant” and in her Lower register. She went home, wrote the lyrics to the song and this was the final product... “IF.”
The whole janet album was MY JAM back in the day! She really came into her own and was freer as an artist, and showed a sexier side of herself because this is when she had lost all this weight (1993). You can see how Janet influenced artists like Britney and Beyonce. Thank you for doing this. ❤
Mixing different genres of music together is incredibly difficult to do, and it really takes a special artists to do that and make it their own. Michael and Janet really perfected that craft and to honest, really changed music and influenced so many artists after them! Truly music icons!
how did you miss the bridge? "Your smooth and shiny Feels so good against my lips, sugar I want you so bad, I can taste your love right now, baby Day and night, night and day" Janet's sexuality evolved so beautifully over the years. 🥰

Trivia. The music at the intro is from the beginning of "Someday We'll Be Together", which was the last song by Diana Ross and The Supremes. Just an FYI. 🙂
This is one of the most famous dance routines ever. It's still ripped off by younger artists today. Watched her perform this in a small venue about 10 years ago. It was amazing. Such a great track too.
This was two years before "Scream." In 1993 while Michael was being accused of child molestation (in the press but not in Court) Janet had lost weight, become successful without her family, and released a new album (Janet.) This was the second single from the album. "If" is set in a Asian sex club, where the men are the commodity (instead of the women being treated as objects.) The song references the man's "smooth and shiny" and the chorus references him being "on the rise, as he's touching her thighs." But because the song never uses a curse word, the single was played on the radio and the album did not have a parental advisory sticker. The album and the single went to #1 in the US and several other countries.
Billboard Dance Club Singles - #1 Billboard Mainstream Top 40 - #2 Billboard R&B / Hip Hop - #3 Billboard Hot 100 - #4 These are the highest positions for "If" during the first month of the single's release in the US. All top 4 chart placement in August of 1993.
