Love your videos! Thanks for sharing. I use SS causes Sh*ts and Shakes
Ah that was helpful! 😅
Definitely better than SS United States
Lmao imma borrow this, cheers
That was helpful, Thanks!
SS for sh¡ts & shakes or like a sh¡tty
salt shaker 💩🧂Hahahaha love this!!
Solid! This helps a lot! This is definitely the best RUclips channel for med students. Thanks as always man!
Great video, it really clicked when you said that the symptoms are just exaggerated forms of the side effects you get when starting those drugs normally! However, you can still get an elevated CK in serotonin syndrome. Probably the other thing to add is that NMS generally develops over days to weeks, and takes longer to resolve (slower onset, slow offset) whereas serotonin syndrome develops over 24 hours and resolves in 24 hours (quick onset, quick offset), but there is a bit of overlap
Thanks for the added info.
that added info is key esp onset
Watching this after my night shift and seeing a patient with NMS for the first time. Thank you for helping me understand x
A blessing for medical students. Thanks for providing high yield stuff and making usmle preparation very interesting.
This video saved me so much time; I heard it 3x during class and still didn't fully understand it. However, now when i take my shelf exam i will visualize this 😊 thank you as always for your creative videos!

Currently struggling to learn psych and your videos are so helpful an amazing!
Why is this soooo good :) Thanks from Sydney Australia ! :D
Aaaaah! Thank you so much! So helpful.
😊Amazing Video I just walked away with way more Knowledge on this topic! THANKS FOR THE HELP! Your Videos are very much Appropriated!🤗
Hey this video is much better than a lot I watched earlier, much more accurate
It is high-yield to add that the Tx for SS is cyproheptadine. Maybe you can think of someone dining on the top of the ship.
And the Tx for NMS is Dantrolene. Maybe think about that guy being named Dan, and he is so lean. (forrul tho he is shredded)
You can remember this for USMLE/COMLEX but in reality, I think it's worth mentioning that these are rarely used. A lot of med students get to the hospitals on rotation and embarrass themselves by saying it. These are pretty much last-line treatments if and when conservative measures fail.
Really nice breakdown.
Thank you so much for this information
I wish u were my teacher in med school . U are just pure class ❤❤❤
tahir johar then he would be limited to just one med school and inaccessible to us world over. I am so glad he is on here and helping med students world over
Thanks! really helpful
sickkkk. thank you
So helpful!! Thanks
U R A GENIUS
Thank you sir, you are a good teacher
Great way to break it down!
Dirty!!! You saved me big time! Thank you!
Great explanation, very logical. I subbed. Why do you call it dirty medicine?
No idea, only thing I can think of is the "quick and dirty" phrase because his videos are concise and to the point.
Thanks!
September 18, 2022 is my second birthday. My symptoms lasted for 20 hours, I passed out countless times, I was shaking UNCONTROLLABLE, I had diarrhea, my heart wanted to jump out, but at the same time I couldn't stand on my feet. When I was conscious I prayed to God to forgive my sins if this is the time for me to leave. After everything, they told me in the emergency room that it was a panic attack, countless infusions, because I was in two hospitals. I knew it wasn't because I was passing out all day. I was on anti-depressants and migraine medication, both of which have high doses of serotonin. I thank God for a second chance, and I am afraid of the incompetence of our doctors. 18.09. is the date of my patron saint and I know who saved my life then. Since then, I've been fighting and struggling with panic attacks, but that day was not one of them.
Lovely bro you saved me 🙏🌹
I wish I had you as a professor :)
I would not fall asleep as much as I did
Excellent!!!!
This helps a lot! Thank u very much!
Well done.
thanks DR
I'm in love and this is the first video of yours I've seen
not a med student but nice vid! always wondered the exact dif between NMS and SS lol
Amazing!
SS...the letter S turned sideways looks like oscillations, which is also seen in clonus/hyperreflexia
Tysm ❤️
Thank you so much ☺️
Best thing on the internet ever
I love the ABS haha! thank you!
LOVE YOU!
SS Tx = Cyproheptadine
NMD Tx = Dantrolene
Yes but if they give you the option of a Benzodiazepine acutely, that will be the answer
@@DirtyMedicine Thank You!
@@DirtyMedicine i dont understand. Why would u give benzos.
@@DirtyMedicine please do more psych videos, you are really amazing
Bonus to SS mneumonic… there is an origin story to the swear word for poo… Ship High in Transit (it is a weird origin, that is mostly debunked) but it used to be thought that ships with a lot of poo on deck would be referred to as this, and so it turned into a name for the swear word we all love.
thank you a ton !
Loved it
Holy shit look at the biceps 😂
Hilarious illustration of a steaming boat & a white side for SS & NMS
If it’s helps, NMS is “Neutrophil and Muscle Specific”
I've dealt with SS. the worst experience in my life.
I had SS twice. The ER docs didn't even seem to care. Thankfully, I knew what I had going on.
Did you get better? I have it
@@micdan8000 yes thank God
@@psychshell4644 that's good I'm glad
How long did it take for you guys to go away. I have this rn and i think I might die
@@VanessaGarcia-kg4wo how has it been since, have you had any help or gotten any better??
Love this!
"Look at these biceps... Holy**it they are rigid"
why did you take down the vitamin video?
re-uploading the last 3 videos to remove background noise in the audio. Will be back up shortly
thank you so much for making these. much appreciated
The ABS mnemonic is so funny LMAO
LOL at the ABS, totally will stick with me
I suffered from serotonin syndrome after two weeks of taking Prozac, and then the doctor added another medication to me, which I took, and I had a panic attack, severe fear, and confusion, and I felt like I was going to die. I went to the emergency room in the hospital and met with another psychiatrist who had no experience. I told him, unfortunately, he told me that you have anxiety that is not from the medication, and he gave me another medication. So I believed his words and went into a coma due to serotonin poisoning. The medication was withdrawn from my body, but I suffered severe depression and anxiety after that because of this incident. I continued to suffer for years, and I am now fine, much better than before, and I am still recovering without antidepressant medication. When I went to a psychiatrist, he went because I have a phobia of... Providing lectures at the university only..I am very regretful and wrong for going to a psychiatrist. I lost 3 years of my life because of that.
My book also says NMS also has diarrhea
on wrong meds: (anti-depressants) = SS ; (anti-psychotics) = NMS
"holy shit they are ridged"
u deserve a kiss thank you
What’s the difference between the two packages $5 vs $15?
In SS , Ca+⬇️ but in NMS , Ca+⬆️
HN 28/3/2020 in quanrantine state
Bless u dirtyusmle
He's got really sick abs
Admin reveal @8:00
Trying to get those abs tho
great explanatory video,
bit of cocky attitude tho
excellent visuals, now i will NEVER forget the difference hahahah
hot guys on boats, finally pharmacology makes sense.
Hey man, love your videos, but there is a significant error. Severe serotonin syndrome can definitely cause rigidity and elevated CK, just like NMS. A much better way to distinguish the two is that the onset of serotonin syndrome is much more acute (starts within a day of starting the culprit medication with maximal symptoms within hours of onset) than NMS (which can take days to weeks to months to start, and can take several days to maximal symptoms).
I get what you're saying, but when thinking about SS vs NMS **for the purposes of exams**, its not useful to think of rigidity in SS because the test writer wouldn't confuse you with that, and instead would use more commonly defined buzzwords for each.
@@DirtyMedicine Are you saying that it's more important to teach/learn buzzwords in order to get an exam question right than it is to actually learn medicine?
USMLE question writers are more savvy that you are giving them credit for.
(EDIT: "savvy" as in not relying on classic buzzwords when they reinforce false ideas about disease presentations)
Don't take poppy seed tea with st. John's Wort, worst mistake of my life
Why
Good explanation worst mnemonic
🤗💪
tREATMENT, NO CURES= CHA-CHING
holy shit they are rigid ... haha
I have the best shits on lsd. No diarrhoea, just the ability to completely evacuate my colon. I suffer from migraines that only end after a good shit, so lsd is a good way to abort a migraine.
Thanks!
