Another thing for pilocytic astrocytoma - they have both solid and cystic parts. So if the MRI of a child shows a tumor consisting of white (solid) and dark (cystic) parts, think pilocytic astrocytoma.
@@NoorFatima-sc3zk yes ...its just that cysts will be different...pilocytic astricytoma will have cyst with mural nodule where as craniopharyngioma will have a calcified cyst...infact there are only few tumors in brain which r calcified like craniopharygioma ,oligodendroglioma and meningioma..plus location of tumors will also be different ..mostly brain tumors in children are infratentorial and they specially have prediliction for cerebellum..so u can also distinguish it on the basis of that..pilocytic astrocytoma lies in cerebellum while as craniopharyngioma is located suprasellar..n symptoms plus histology of craniopharygioma n pilocytic astricytoma are also different
My mnemonics for childhood brain tumors. (I have no idea about American footbal). ASTRO (star) cytoma => give your favorite star some Rose Fibers 💐 (bouquet) B LAST => your Home Right is what Lasts (matters the most). Ependy Moma => Give your Mom a pseudo rose 🥀 (You gave the star a bouquet 😉). I like your dirty mnemonic. Cranio Pharymgioma- my friend Radke (German name) has a big mouth & crane: he eats Calcium icecream and Cholesterol (motor oil like junk food). Pinealoma - Parrainer (meand support in French) the pines for early blooming. (Preserve the pine trees for precocious puberty 🌲).
Reviewed a card and had to come and comment on the video..I love your style of teaching. It helps close the gap of comprehension by months! All of medical should be taught this way. "Here is something really difficult, but know these things, here is a goofy/interesting/unique way to remember it, and in the future, you'll at least have a framework from which to build your knowledge on this difficult subject....and go!"
Another important thing to note is that adult brain tumors are typically supratentorial (above the tentorium cerebelli), so they affect the cortex mostly. Childhood brain tumors are typically infratentorial (below the tentorium cerebelli), so they tend to affect the cerebellum and brainstem mostly.
I actually decided to watch this because I have had two brain surgeries for a glioneuronal tumor from my childhood. I like to know a bit about that stuff.
I am so burnt out I couldn’t process any information ,,,,, but even then i could study from dirty….. that means something! You are a saviour for us dirty ! Love you ❤
For Medulloblastoma, you can always remember it as Med-BLUE-oblastoma, because the Homer-Wright rosettes are, at the end of the day, another small cell cancer. Also, for small blue cell cancers of the brain: Kids - Medulloblastoma; Adults - Metastatic Small Cell Carcinoma of the Lung
Also remember the "Homer Wright" as "home right", because the tumor is so malignant that there is nothing doctors can do except for sending patients right to home without hesitation. (not the truth though)
To add to Dirty's Ependymoma story mnemonic to help me with the name. "Momma's pending gift is pseudo roses" (to make up for being a crap kid)...as always thank you so much for the dedicated review Dirty!
@@DirtyMedicine when the doctor i getting lot headaches and dizy and cant say the words i am scared i have brain tumors what if I do have brain tumors ??.
excellent rapid review bro! Childish brain tumor on uw they want to ddx two cerebellum tumors: medulloblastoma and pilocystic on imaging, the former is only cystic and the latter is mixed
For oligodendrogliomas, I could never remember the chicken wire and egg thing actually looked like because I just couldn't see it. Now, I always think of it like a pomegranate cross section, and my egg breakfast can just have pomegranate on the side. No clue if that helps anyone else visualize the histology better, but it did for me!
I would like a video on parathroid hormone, osteoprotegerin, osteoclast, rankl, rank, and osteoblast. I find the relationship between these challenging. Kindly oblige. regards
On my neurosurgery internship, i saw a m pt w/ pituitary containging both GH and PRL, his cc is: doc, why my forehead is becoming bigger for months and my wife complains about my function? Very impressive case lol
Oligos and meningomas both calcify. This is useful. Meningiomas enhance avidly while oligos are less likely to. Meningiomas may occur within the ventricles.
Another update is that GBM is often classified based on the wildtype phenotype according to WHO standards now, while astrocytomas are IDH mutants, to let you know.
Only thing is that many women with pituitary prolactinomas also have very decreased libido, esp those with macro adenomas with multiple signs of acromegagaly as well.
another one for pilocytic astrocytoma for all the "A Court of Thorn and Roses (ACOTAR) fans out there. 'ASTRO-TAR' with roses representing 'Rose-nthal fibers'. And I remember 'pilocytic' means hair-like projections by thinking about the ACOTAR sisters with their long hair.
Thank you so much for all of your videos--they are super helpful! Could you please make a video on the fat metabolism disorders? i.e. Systemic carnitine def and medium chain acyl def? Those are always confusing. Thank you for all of your amazing videos!
Amazing video. Great mnemonics. For Craniopharyngioma what i came up with was "remnants or WRATH" and i imagine a story like thats a gang or a motorcylcist group whose logo is a cranium. Keep studying
*** I think there's an error ! *** :O MENINGIOMAS are more common in WOMEN (per Pathoma, FA 2020)! Also mentioned that it can be due to that they're ESTROGEN (+). P.s. I look forward to watching all your videos after every review section. I have to really thank you for giving me something to look forward to in these M2 days :')
Another, maybe easier, way to remember pilocytic astrocytoma & Rosenthal fibers for fellow sports fans- Ken ROSENTHAL is a very famous reporter for the MLB (ASTROs)
He is the hero that we need, but not the one we deserve. Bless up
What is bless up
🙄
Yeah bro what is bless up!?!!!!!😂

how do you do that , just an amazing way to teach !!
you should hold workshops for teaching !!
Wow thanks doc. I've been running into a lot of practice questions with tumors. This really helps.
I fear that they'd ask these "not worth the brain space" type of questions.
@DirtyUSMLE, hey man, can you do one regarding fibrates and lipid lowering agents ??
P.S.- Your videos are fantastic, please keep making them
No like I m genuinely obsessed with this man

And for PINEAloma: PINEApples and PEARinaud's go well together
Pray for me. Tomorrow's the day.
Any update? ❤
