This is my absolute favourite version of this aria. It is far more subtle than other interpretations. And of course Bartoli's voice is utterly wonderful - by turn powerful, furious, hard, and then velvety and warm.
This 2001 Zurich Don Giovanni with a stellar cast and conducted by the inimitable Harnoncourt is in my opinion the best I have ever seen and heard. This somewhat slowed tempo is perfect for Mi Tradi - and of course Bartoli just about steals the show. After this I can't get my head around anything but a mezzo Dona Elvira.

Tecnica vocale furbastra. Nei minimi dettagli. Per chi abbia un residuo buon gusto e quel tanto di competenza - che tornano utili nell'ascolto dell'Opera in generale e di Mozart in particolare - suggerisco (tra altri innumerevoli soprani...) la compianta Dessi'. In quest'aria offre un saggio esemplare di tecnica autenticamente belcantistica, con risultati affascinanti sul piano della bellezza del suono ed anche della vicinanza del personaggio all'intento del compositore. Tutto ciò senza smorfie, arbitrarie enfasi drammatiche ed altre scorie sgradevoli, che - in tutta evidenza - servono a dissimulare/simulare/nascondere/facilitare eccetera eccetera. E non ho alcun interesse particolare a dirlo: si tratta solo di rimettere a posto le cose. Dando a Cesare quel che è di Cesare... Per chi invece si contenta....ebbene: chi si contenta, gode!
I do miss Harnoncourt - he could really bring out the best in the colleges Cecilia really gets the freedom to put maximum into that role. We know she can sing, but few could make an orkester follow a good soloist - be it a singer or a instrument solo passage in the orkester. Notice her left hand, as she gives the conductor the hint where and how much she is going. More often than most, she prefers to be without conductor - provided the musicians are good enough. But Harnoncourt was something else.

Orchestra sounds ludicrous at this speed. It’s so scrappy too. Tom and Jerry music, except those orchestras in the 50s could play in time. And then of course the aria played extremely slowly. How not to build a scene dramatically or musically.

Es buena interprete Rossiniana pero en esta interpretación vocal no me gustó. No alcanzó los registros altos por ser mezzo y esta aria es para soprano.
No es un problema de tesitura, Donna Elvira es un papel factible para una mezzosoprano ligera que entrene para llegar hasta el si natural (B5) o el do sobreagudo (C6). El problema es el tempo dislocado que la vuelve fuera de estilo, y que Cecilia Bartoli tiene un color de voz muy barroco y rossiniano, nada mozartiano.

Perfect tempo to express emotional turmoil. I can't stand light and fluffy performances of this aria.
