I finally figured out my problem and why my A7IV had the eyepiece touching. I'm using the smallrig mounting plate and it's quite a bit thicker than the original mounting plate. I'm also using a quick release plate + mount. My two options would be to either add weights to the back of the smallrig plate which makes the whole setup heavier.... or I order an original mounting plate and I think i'll go with the latter. Thanks for making this.
this is so hard. im using the rise mount thingy that came with it. this the best I've done since watching your video. those pictures you took helped alot and gor me in the ball park. it just dont stay in the direction i place the camera. yours is staying where you move it. i hope i made sense cuz this thing got my brain in scrabbles right now
@@ColdFront413 if you point the camera up it goes back down to being centered? If that's the case you need to adjust the height of the camera by raising the camera up on the side.
Thanks for this! I rented a Sony 24-70 GM and it was too front heavy, no chance to balance it. Maybe with counter-weights, which I don't have. Good to know that it works with the Sigma
Glad it was helpful! The sigma does work for me though a few people have had issues with the sigma. The Tamron 28-75 is also a great alternative if balancing is an issue. Best of luck!
About 3 years ago, with sony 24-70mm f2.8 G-Master 1st gen, once it zoom more than 40mm(approximately) no matter which focal length I have balancing on, gimbal motor will work at the beginning, but/then suddenly stop working, and the lens hit on the gimbal, leave a little scratch on the lens. I remember that is running the first or second version of firmware in Weebill S at that time. End up I use Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 G1 with Weebill S, zooming in and out, no problem.
How do you zoom in and out? Do you do it by hand, or a focus control that you have on the Gimbal. I bought one from Zhiyun and returned it bc it kept slipping off my Tamron 20-75 lens.
I dont use a focus motor as it isn't necessary for my needs. The A7siii auto focus is plenty fine for me but if I do need to manually focus then focus by wire is enough for manual
Awesome video! Quick question, I used the camera riser plate that Zhyiun provided and it’s stuck to my quick release plate. Had it in there for too long and can’t unscrew it for the life of me. What are you using since it seems like you have the set up completely different?
I use a quick release system by 3 legged thing, linked in the description, and it's just mounted on top of the gimbal quick release plate. I mainly use it to raise the camera up and to allow easy switching between my arca swiss mounts. The camera riser plate essentially does the same thing as it allows the lens to not hit the gimbal quick release plate when zooming. Hope that helps!
Hm, with the original plate, try to slide the camera as far back on the plate itself as possible, then slide the plate on the gimbal mount as far back as possible. if it's just slightly unbalanced, the motors will make up for it when you turn it on, but it will work a bit harder and the battery life will go down a little. Hopefully that helps
I just got my gimbal and I'm trying to use the Weebill S with the Sony A7iv. I got it to balance withOUT the camera riser mount, and just mounted it to the Zhiyun supplied quick release plate. (When I try using the riser mount, the eyepiece touches the gimbal arm.) I am having another problem though: when I switch the gimbal on it starts vibrating strongly and doesn't stop. The only way to stop it is to reduce the tilt setting to about 16, but it doesn't save this setting and I have to do it each time. Any idea what to do?
What lens are you using? The eyepiece touching the gimbal arm is a problem for some and for some it is fixable by removing the eyepiece to give clearance. The vibration issue is something that others have brought up. While the issue may be different for each person, in addition to trying autotune, check firmware updates, and make sure everything including the baseplate is tightened down and nothing is shifting at all when the camera moves around. Those seem to be what was causing problems for others. Hopefully that helps cuz if not then I'm not sure.
@@hoangpham Thanks for your quick reply :) I'm using the Sigma 24-70 DG DN Art lens, like the one in your review (sorry, I should've mentioned that). I have tried autotune, but once it has run, the aggressive, constant vibration starts and won't stop. Everything is firmly tightened down and the gimbal is as balanced as I can get it. I'll try updating firmware. It already has a fairly recent version, but I see there's a newer version available (2.10.5) released a couple weeks ago. From what I've read elsewhere, version 1.96 is the "good" version, so if the newest doesn't solve it I'll try figure out how to get 1.96... Took another run at it today, but this time I reattached the lens support, flipped the screen out into the position in which I'll be using it, removed the lens cap, set the lens to halfway (50mm on the 24-70 sigma), balanced it as perfectly as possible and then placed the entire contraption on the floor (hard, solid surface). Then I switched it on - all good. Then I did the motor autotune thing as before - still all good! I don't know which of those things did the trick (I also made a sacrifice to the gods of tech before trying this), but it seems to be working now. (Fingers crossed, knock on wood, second sacrifice lined up). For my next trick I have to attach the focus motor (which may need me to use the extra camera raiser mount thingy). Gods help me!! I'll keep y'all posted...
Sort of, it doesn't offer full A7iv support right now. With the latest firmware you can connect the camera and control the aperture, shutter, iso from the gimbal but the record button won't trigger the camera to record. Aside from the record feature it seems to work fine from what I can tell but in short, the gimbal does not fully support the A7iv yet.
I was super hopeful watching this but I can’t for the life of me get my a7S III with a cage, Sigma 24-70, and Fotasy arca swiss setup to balance correctly. It’s just too top heavy. Sigh. It’s always something. lol
i have fx 3 / falcam F38 quick release plate /sigma 24 - 70 and it doesnt work for me with the plate. Without this fooking plate i was able to install it but with the plate i tried it like for 3 hours and it just wouldnt wanna work :/
That's so odd, I was able to balance it with a larger quick release plate than the falcam one. If it's just slightly off, the motors can pick up the slack and while they will be working a bit harder and draining battery a bit faster, it can still be balanced during use.
@@hoangpham its just that its either top or bottom heavy when i put the camera upwards,. i dont know what to do. i moved the plate back and forth now for 4 hours but its still not holding upwards. I dont know where to place the plate
@@hoangpham hey man, i found the solution. I guess it might be one or others solution as well. I used my fx3/ sigma 24 - 70 mm / Falcam F38 quick release plate WITH A TILTA CAGE. The problem was the cage because the cage + the plate made it too back heavy. There was no way the zhyiun weebil S gimbal could handle both #physiques #facepalm . The good thing on the tilta cage is that you can detach the lower-left part because its a half cage. So now i still have the right side of the cage and the top part + the quick release plate and it works. So for all the people, either you get another gimbal where it might work or you have to use either the cage or the plate (or the half of the tilta half cage like i do now xD). Man i feel so stoopid but for my excuse xD it was low light when i tried it for 4 hours. Still feel stoopid. Thanks for your reply @hoangpham Keep up the great work! Have a great saturday!
when the camera is pointed directly up? That shouldn't be due to the main back forth plate that should be the the arm on the right side of the gimbal that needs to be adjusted.
@@hoangpham yes when the camera + lens is pointed directly upwards. There are two factors for the stabilization of the gimbal when the lens is pointed upwards. The first is you can adjust it like you said with the arm on the right side. To see the second factor you have to watch to the gimbal from the side where the wheel is. If the camera + lens show to the top, the camera with the lens is more rightsided, the arm is in the middle and the zhyiun quick release plate which is now leftsided is trying to compensate weight of the camera + lens and it is also able to compensate. Now to the issue: With the additional cage + the falcam 38 quick release plate the camera with the lens are now to much rightsided when its pointed upwards and therefore its much to heavy rightsided and the zhyiun quick release plate which is on the left side of the arm cannot compensate the weight anymore. Its only possible with either the falcam quick release plate or with cage but not with both. To explain it in a other way. I had the arm the lowest possible and it was still to back heavy. Its not because the Falcam quick release plate + the cage are to heavy but its because its now too rightsided and the zhyiun quick release plate which is on the left side (when you watch from the direction of the wheel) isnt able to compensate the weight anymore. Sry my english. Hope its somehow understandable. Maybe you have to try what i describe to understand it. I am not very good in explaining camera issues understandable in english.

if 70/2 is 35 why do we balance at the 50mm mark and not the 35mm mark?
is that lens's balancing point or is it something else?
the lens goes from 24 to 70 so the focal range is 70-24 which is 46. We balance at 50 since it is marked on the lens and is easier to find than 46.
