- The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.
I love how many veteran broadcasters are involved back in these early 80s races - guys like Bob Jenkins, Mike Joy, Dick Berggren, Al Michaels, Ken Squier of course, I'm sure Rick Benjamin was on the call for the 1982 Pocono 500 recently uploaded? So cool to not only to see the legendary drivers but also hear the legendary announcers 😊
The commentators paint the picture. These guys helped build NASCAR into what it became when I was a kid in the 90s and it was starting to explode. They'll always be remembered
You Don't see races that are postponed for a Week anymore the way the Schedule is Today
Would love one of the Richmond weekends to go to Rockingham for 2025
Texas should leave for Rockingham. All this talk about Us leaving a Richmond race Is a MISTAKE
Love these old races! Thanks for the uploads!
I agree
Races back then: 500 miles/492 laps, this means halfway would've been 246 laps. In the mid-90s they were reduced to 400 miles/393 laps.
Hey NASCAR. I didn’t see any imagery that offended me on this video. I miss the good ole days.
Ahh you mean the "good ole days" when conservative weren't told to be constantly outraged over a new boogyman each week? Yeah I miss those days too. I wish they'd all get off X and Facebook and do something with their pathetic lives.
Dang, knocked it outta the park again. GRANDSLAMMER.👏
Another great upload with great picture quality also.
I've wondered this for years now ever since I first saw this on ESPN Classic back about 25 years ago, does the broadcast of the first 143 laps before the rain showed up just not exist anymore?
If the broadcasts were on tape or film, it might well have been destroyed or lost. Lots of old BBC TV shows ended up getting destroyed in the 1970s simply through a lack of storage space for all the old reels/tapes!
@@HeyItsAJOmega As a classic tv and movie fan, I'm sadly all too aware of all the sad stories like ABC disposing of the DuMont Television Network's kinescopes and videotapes in the East River in the dead of night in the 1970's to make more room in their storage facility.
I’ve seen the 1st part of this race on here , now for the last part !!
@@kharnthebetrayer1575 It's certainly not present these days. There's an upload that at first glance appears to possibly be it, but it's actually the Fall race named the Walter W. Hodgdon American 500 rather than the Carolina 500 from the spring (the upload is incorrectly titled the "Walter W. Hodgdon Carolina 500").
Look at that Firebird pace car
Richard Petty's only win on ESPN
Yes it was. Most of Richard's wins were on CBS. You can account the Wild World of Sports entries as well which were snippets of races but outside of this most of them were on CBS!
The King reigns supreme this day.
Awesome Bill came close to snookering the King. What a finish after a wild day.
Real Nascar racing unlike the current Iroc cup series
🏁Enjoyed!!!!!🏁
Ronnie thomas actually has that car
My friend and I drove to that race twice from PA. We jumped a fence after the race to get our picture taken with Richard Petty. His response was, you cats are nuts. That one memory I will cherish forever
God bless Cale
