    Another awesome finish.
Of course you have Earnhardt's infamous crash where he was able to walk away. It was crazy seeing him and Richmond get down then back up the bank.

*POINT STANDINGS and WINS before the 1982 POCONO 500 (18 of 30):*
#44 Terry Labonte (2487 points, GM)
#88 Bobby Allison (-29 with 4 wins, GM)
#11 Darrell Waltrip (-136 with 6 wins, GM)
#15 Dale Earnhardt (-326 with 1 win, Ford)
#33 Harry Gant (-343 with 1 win, GM)
    #67 Buddy Arrington (-359, Dodge)
#71 Dave Marcis (-417 with 1 win, GM)
    #47 Ron Bouchard (-453, GM)
Richard Petty (GM #43 in 10th) had an unprofitable Summer. Benny Parsons (11th) was having a hard time securing a good seat after getting pissed at Ranier for some mechanical DNFs. Ricky Rudd (GM #3 in 12th) stopped suffering from so many mechanical DNFs. Jody Ridley (Ford #90 in 13th) has been improving over the months. Cale Yarborough (GM #27) won the Carolina 500 and the Motor State 400 and Neil Bonnet (Ford #21) won the World 600 despite both aiming to only race around half of the season. Tim Richmond (GM #2) got his maiden win in the Riverside 400km.
Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Yes, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In Pocono’s case, the early race is the Pennsylvania 500 while the later one is the Pocono 500.

@35:12 Look at them welding the wall back together. Poconos walls were made of boilerplate and not concrete up until 1989. Greg Sacks and Lake Speed wrecked into it had broke the wall apart

The Earnhardt-Richmond crash in turn one was one of the first horrific crashes in turn one that I know of to have taken place in either NASCAR or USAC/CART, and it was fortunate that both drivers were able to walk away from it. Just a few weeks later, Johnny Rutherford had a similarly horrifying crash in the Pocono 500 in the same turn that he, too, was able to walk away from that may have hastened the end of Jim Hall's first foray into IndyCar racing. Why NASCAR and USAC/CART allowed tracks like Pocono and Michigan to run with a boilerplate wall or a guard rail as the retaining wall as late as the 1980s (Pocono wouldn't have a concrete wall in that treacherous first turn until 1990) is beyond me. I know concrete isn't forgiving and what they have now with the SAFER barrier is much better, but it was better than what Pocono and Michigan had at the time for a retaining wall.

Earnhardt tore up a lot of those #15 Bud Moore race cars in 82-83. Call him the Greatest of all Time or whatever, but man he was a car destroyer in those years.
