- If Ive said it once Ive said it a thousand times...Im no MOPAR guy. But I did learn a few things on this project. Mostly how NOT to do it. Special thanks to Patrons- DizTraveler, Anonymous and bryan_2009. Thank you for your support!

I've recently taken to using inexpensive R152a to verify that my AC systems are truly refrigerant tight before filling with R134a. The only problem is the R152a works so well, I'm not terribly motivated to move onto the R134a step.
R12 to R152a conversion: Molecular weight of R152a = 66. Molecular weight of R12 = 120. R152a/R12 ratio = 66/120=.55,
The Jeep required a R12 charge of 2.38 lbs. Convert to ounces: 2.38 X 16 = 38.08 oz, Convert to R152a - 38.08 x .56 = 20.94 oz of R152a to charge the system. Two 12 oz cans of R152a needed to charge the system.
R134a to R152a conversion: Molecular weight of R152a = 66. Molecular weight of R134a = 102. R152a/R134a ratio = 66/102=.64
Multiply the system charge by .64.
"It will suck start a Harley" -- I was dying! 🤣🤣🤣
The cashier at D.G. probably thinks you were huffing the duster....lol.....
I put two 10 ounce cans of dust off in my 1993 ford f 350 8 years ago i still have ice cold air
I feel your pain... just charged my ole hotrod tonight and had a shrader valve stick when i unhooked the high side. Tig welded high side port closed and headed back to dollar general. ... been using air duster in everything for 10 years or so
What refrigerant oil is best to use with it, in an old R-12 car?
If you want to make things much easier, get the cans that are made for air horns for marine and sports use. It's r152a ( Difluoroethane). These cans have a threaded top self sealing valve. I'm not 100% sure if it's the right thread pitch to hook a r134a can tap/ charge hose directly to, but you could probably find a adapter if you dig around on the internet. This would be much easier than side tapping cans of air duster
I vacuum overnight sometimes or a few hours minimum like 4
Thanks for the great video but you missed a few things.
The gas in the duster is the most common because it's cheap . It's called HFC152a .
1: The charge weight on the compressor is for whatever gas was intended to be in the system not for what you want to put in it.
2: HFC152a is supposed to be charged 35% less than 134a so your system is massively overcharged.
3:The charging gauge you have can be used to charge your system based on pressure if you use a Temperature and Humidity Gauge Meter along with a pt chart for 152a.
its a r12 system
Thank You for the video. Its funny how people are lecturing you in the comments about techniques.
You are USING air duster.
👍 Rock on
4:51 Literally ever car projects I ever do
You are supposed to use 20% less capacity when you switch to r152s aka duster and yes all duster is r152a. Yep you overcharged the system.
Brilliant!
I'm sure there are people some were making the cans of duster harder to get so we can't do this. Stock up now if you think you will need it.... Great way of fixing the an older air con a lot easyer then a full upgrade....
The sad thing is people fell for the LIE that Freon was bad for the Environment. The sadder thing is these same people that believe the LIE use freon Air Dusters while believing other freon is bad. The Ozone depletion theory was a scam. Some believe it was Dupont that started it because there Patent had run out on R12 while I think it was Dupont & the Government looking to crete more bureaucracy. Just think we have entire Government Sectors dedicated to this Freon crap. It's the same thing with R134A, they are moving away from it because its so cheap & forcing people to buy another freon thats 10-20x there cost.
Awesome
Nice vacuum pump.....got to be the life of the party!..... Liked how you persevere threw all the hits.....you must have some great blood pressure.....Be cool!
just stubborn
LOL, I would have thrown something through the wall after the second time.... and then tried again after a couple of days googling/YT'ing.
@@dzlfreek Pulling a vacuum again isn't strictly necessary, as the system has effectively been _purged_ with 152a. Look at Frank Bartlett's comment too, as the total charge you need is about 60% of the 134a charge.
Hey Rick. Yeah I always heard if the a/c can get down between 45 and 50 then it’s working properly … YOU did exquisitely getting it down to 39…even if it did take three times. Shit happens and you’re only human. Don’t fret about it. Later.
Am glad I am not the only cheap a$$ on the planet! Love your channel Rick.
thanks! tell all your friends!
You are slugging the crap out of that tired compressor. Charging with liquid on the low side. Need to put gloves on too when messing with refrig systems.
I bet the dollar general guy was shocked you were still standing after all those cans
Im sure he was wondering wtf....
Does both the high and low side valves need to be open (at halfway point) to fill and then close them (all the way out) before removing fill hose?
only the low side should be open to fill. If you're referring to the valves on the compressor, both valves should be open only if you want to see the pressures on both the low an high side. either way you only use the low side to fill, and close everything before you remove the hoses.
What kind of oil did you use in the system?
So it’s been two years, is the A/C still working or how long did it work? Nice video, most people don’t show the hard times. I just installed Two pioneer mini Split systems and they sell that 152a to use to Flush the line set just before you make the final connection. So no vacuum pump, or gauge set. They honor the warranty if you DIY. 18,000 BTU 22 seer, AC. about $1,800.00.
I sold the jeep so im unsure. Interestingly enough, the guy that bought it reached out to me recently. I'll ask and get back to you
Buyer tells me it still works!
I see MOPAR MUSCLE!!!. Is that a Dodge Duster? Or is the the holy grail of Mopar cars. A Dodge Demon??
just a plain ol dart
@@dzlfreek NICE 😎
It's all the same ingredient Difluoroethane - all air dusters are the same just the stupid manufactures gouge on pricing. but 3 cans should be enough if not more than enough.
LOL, hilarious! Only because I'd be doing the same thing...
You had a leak unless you just repaired them. Reason you are charging it up. The vacuum test is not 100% accurate. Leaving for 20 and coming back. You need to test under pressure as well with soap or a sniffer. Hoses will collapse closed under pressure and stop any small leaks. Reason for positive pressure testing.
Cool.👉😎👉
Didn't install a new drier. You said the system was open to the air for a long time. Didn't vacuum properly. Compressor valves were shut off. Should of vacuumed for one hour minimum. Just heard you want to vacuum for 15 mins LOL. You need to educate more on this. Because you can buy things, doesn't mean you should use them.
Yea, a little research before you tackle stuff like this saves a lot of heartache.
Need to bleed the yellow charge hose prior to letting the gas go. You added a ton of air and moisture into your system. Turns to acid. See that pink bike there? Work on that. Take that hideous bedliner blue Jeep to a real AC shop.
