Very informative video. Well done. I used a very similar rig when I was fishing for halibut in Alaska. The sinker slide, sinker, and line were different. We used 16oz to 24oz sinkers, so you can imagine the sinker slide, swivel, and hook were much bigger. Same principle set up though. The line was called TUFF LINE. It was made of Dacron. Rod was shorter but stouter with roller eyes. Penn reels with up to 500yds of line. We were fishing 325 foot of water. Line size was similar to yours, 60-100lb test. All I can say is that after reeling a fish in from that deep, my arms were smoked. Wouldn't trade it for the world though. What an experience. Great video, you gained a subscriber here.

Great video. I'm glad starting Saturday July 1st,2 line law will be in effect and I will be out on that day on the mn river with live and cut bait. Downstream granite falls has been producing great flatties along with Renville county.
Does anybody else wonder why baitcastcreels like a Abu catfish special holds 500 yards of line, then you pull up to a spot, make a 20yard cast, and rarely have a fish full drag out? I large Dia spool that holds 100yds would be perfect.
@@RodsandReloads this is true but I've caught some Flatts in the croix and Minnesota that have been over 64lbs now and have yet to need one cast plus 25yards for a drag peeling run. Even with big rainy river sturgeon rarely does a guy ever need more than one cast plus 50yds.
@@RodsandReloads yep. But as you fill all that mono on that spool, or strip off all last year's line that was never used a guy simply has to think "why not make these spools larger diameter in the middle section so I don't need to fill in the gap?" Lol

Fair question! I suppose it’s better to have more line than not enough in case a state record samples your bait! 😆

Keep in mind we always use mono backing to fill almost half of the spool, I will not use more than 150 yd of braid to fill my spools.
