Long reply here, but hopefully there is some value in it. The book is truly amazing and I only wish I would have read it before I was 51 because within a few weeks of reading it, I started knocking off my measly overexerted PBs from when I was in my mid 30s, and doing it with minimal sweat and even without intention during random training runs. What is even more interesting is the unintentional chain of East African running books that it unlocks. This book mentions Out of Thin Air and within that book, it mentions Running With The Kenyans, which finally mentions the book titled More Fire. I've tried to mention this progression to friends that over train, deal with nagging injuries, think they need carbs every few blocks and prefer to give their money to online coaches, however most want no part of the reading. I feel sorry for them...
The longer the comment, the better. This comment has a lot of gold in it. I am going to have to pin this to the top. The marketing of gear has really taken over the running world to the point that people feel they need the gear in order to run. Ultimately, none of that stuff matters if the fundamentals are executed properly. The beauty of books is being able to get the knowledge whenever. This is definitely the gateway book. I am reading Running With the Kenyans as we speak. I have Out of Thin Air next on the list. Hopefully, your friends will come around one day.
I’m just coming back to running after 4 years and many lbs around my waist. It’s hard man, but watching you and your love of the run is infectious. I signed up to a 10k next year. And you’re right, posture, I do really need to work on that haha. Much love.
Copping the book now. Been working on a few of these things in my posture (my leg kick, ball of my foot spring/trampoline feel, arms tight, and most importantly my breathing and changing it when necessary) and my easy runs felt like a 1 out of 10 effort.
It makes such a big difference especially over time. I know you will get right. He also has a website since he is a coach. Of course I am here to share. It helped me a lot and I want to help others become better runners. Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch the vid I appreciate it
