    This is very useful advice. I use the hybrid approach very successfully after testing positive for SIBO. I agree that repeated testing for SIBO is not as useful as acting as if the patient is a celiac diabetic. Berberine is a game changer to help with metabolic balance, IMO.

    Hi Dr. Ruscio! Thank you so much for your life changing channel, it has helped me come a long way. I have a HUGE question. I've been on my SIBO and Candida healing journey for about a year now. Trial and error, navigating diet, herbal antimicrobials etc. I have suffered from a complete inability to digest food (pretty much of any kind) since I was 10 years old. I'm 27 now. I believe this was due to a horrendous standard American diet and an overload of antibiotics since I was a baby. This is the first year I'm starting to see things turn around for the better with my diet change and taking herbal remedies. This is the problem: outside of chronic constipation (since childhood) I have suffered from this one symptom: acne-like lesions all over my skin from head to toe. Literal outbreaks of boils/pustules and no part of my body is exempt. It has consistently gotten worse with every year that has gone by. This year, I've seen it slowly get less inflamed the more strict I am with my protocol. Problem is, it's not completely clearing and the moment I even get a hint of something contaminated (say, a small amount of sugar, wheat or seed oil) that I unknowingly eat as a guest at someone's home, it flares terribly and I'm back at square one having to heal months of progress thrown out the window with one small bite of "not on the protocol" food. Am I missing something? I've started probiotics, fermenting my own foods at home, etc. And while I've seen very slow but good progress, I just can't heal my skin completely. It is a debilitating condition in that my skin is always covered in open wounds and infections. Please help! Any ideas? Thank you so much! I'm very sorry for the long comment!😆🙏

    Dr. Ruscio… thank you for your contributions. This helps me, in that I have IMO (per breath test) and Candida overgrowth (per DNA stool analysis which also indicated low elastase, low stomach acid and mild H. Pylori). My biggest concern with any elemental diet is the fact that I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, and there doesn't seem to be a way able to get away from several ingredients that “can” cause flares with it. Do you have any opinion on this? I am considering trying an elemental diet to starve out the archaea and then reintroduce only foods that are AIP compliant. Also, what do you recommend using with berberine to compliment an elemental reset for Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth? Thank you, in advance, for any suggestions you may be able to give.

    Wouldn't testing for high or low HCL acid at some point early on on your SIBO journey at least help get to the ROOT of what causing an individual case of SIBO??? As long as low hydrochloric acid is a player in this scenario, you're never going to beat SIBO with antibiotics or probiotics or probably any other regime, all the while your gut is getting destroyed or you're having relapses.
    My advice is to at least do the simple test of discovering where your hydrochloric acid levels are at, because if they're low you're not keeping your jejunum or your ileum bacteria-free, those two parts of your small intestine are supposed to be sterile!!! Your body has a mechanism where it literally washes the small intestine I think it's around every 90 minutes and also while you're asleep to flush out the bacteria that might be there and it's done with the hydrochloric acid of the stomach. Low HCL acid diminishes this action, leading to the over growth.
    I've been battling SIBO for 10 months now and just now discovering this information about low hydrochloric acid being a very likely candidate for a huge number of SIBO cases, along with other low hydrochloric acid induced maladies - being holistic in my approach to SIBO getting to the root cause ASAP will bring about healing sooner rather than spinning my wheels getting nowhere fast.
    Lowering the acidic levels has helped me out more than anything else Ive tried and got results so much faster - I wish I heard of the HCL acid test months ago....

    • @DrRuscioDC
      @DrRuscioDC  Месяц назад

      I’m so glad you’ve discovered that this is a component of your SIBO and that you’re able to treat accordingly. While stomach acid production can be an issue - and we offer a guide on trialing HCL on our site: drruscio.com/betaine-hcl/ - it can be quite difficult to actually effectively test for low stomach acid. How did you test for yours?

      @@DrRuscioDCmy picture is me back in 2020 - I'm just now turning 60, never occurred to me that I'd have any of these age-related issues. I've been noticing since I've had sibo I've had indigestion, and neither one of these things have ever been an issue for me until last November. The thought of having low hydrochloric acid never crossed my mind, and I work in the healthcare field.
      So on an empty stomach yesterday, I used 4 oz of water and half a teaspoon of baking soda and I swallowed it, and I waited for some kind of sensation or some kind of result in what I ended up was I felt nothing and had the softest tiniest little burp I've ever experienced! And I was like okay let's try another avenue -I know this sounds corny so I went to Burger King and ordered the biggest double bacon cheeseburger they had on the menu, knowing that I'm not going to digest this well I'm going to feel like I've got a heavy wet towel in my gut I'm going to be miserable I'm going to have brain fog, ect and it'll be hours before I have any relief - obviously things aren't moving along like they used to. So I get the sandwich and I brought a little canning jar that holds about 4 oz with me of organic apple cider vinegar w/the mother. It was probably 70% vinegar in 30% water and I didn't drink any of my soda with the sandwich I just chased it down with the apple cider vinegar in the canning jar. I couldn't believe the results!! Instead of feeling absolutely horrible and miserable, I just felt like I really ate a lot, but in half an hour I felt incredible! I had energy I had mental clarity my gut didn't feel like I had a heavy wet bath towel in there, no bloating no gas no burping. Hmmm...
      So I ordered some hydrochloric acid tablets from Amazon and I'm going to continue on this endeavor to see what kind of results I get.
      But looking across the decades that I've been in healthcare and seen so many geriatrics with all kinds of digestive issues nobody even talks about this, nobody ever does any testing for these folks and they just put them on laxatives or Imodium and tons of fiber and these poor folks in the nursing home get virtually no relief. These folks and everybody basically needs to be treated holistically and actually just get to the root of what's causing these issues and knock that out, when that's possible.

    LOW CARB??? Yaaaa... I looked up the nutrition chart on your "Low Carb" elemental diet and while it may be "lower carb" than your higher carb version, it certainly does qualify in my mind as being "low carb". I love your videos and information, but please have your formulators consult experts in low carb living/science as I feel they didn't do their homework properly on this one. One serving has more than I would ever consume in an entire day... and you are supposed to consume it 3x a day... which gets back up to high high carb.

      Hi there! Thanks for your comment. You’re referring to Elemental Heal - something that’s designed as a (fully or semi-, depending on which project you use) elemental diet formula. Because of the nature and therapeutic indication of these formulas, it’s very hard to reduce or remove carbohydrates to a level that might be considered more conventionally “low-carb.” They’re designed to be highly digestible and low-residue, providing adequate nutrition to the body in cases of serious malabsorption and other digestive disorders. Most of the commercially available elemental diet formulas will have comparable or much higher carb content than our “low-carb” version. I hope this explains why this particular “low-carb” product could be considered higher carb than expected (but lower carb than other formulations of EH).
