Just think, an LED tv this size 15 years ago would have cost over $5000, and would have been worse.

not sure about worse. i had a sony 40 inch lcd i bought over 15 years ago for like $750, and i liked the picture a lot better than the leds they make today.
the picture and colors just looked more natural to me, with a lot of these leds the picture is sometimes too bright and colorful and it loses that natural look and makes everything look more cartoony and unnatural.
it also lasted about 15 years while being on at least 12 hours a day, and 24 hours a day on the weekends. i have trouble sleeping in silence so the tv is usually on even while i'm sleeping.
anyhow, like everything else, tvs are built to break down faster now so they can sell more of them. i have a tcl and the picture is better than i expected, but i definitely preferred the more natural look of the sony lcd i had before it. i just liked the way lcds looked in general over led, but sadly they don't even make lcds anymore to my knowledge.

  • @69Dartman

I was and still am quite happy with my TCL but it certainly wasn't the most affordable 65 they made at the time, in fact it probably the most expensive set they were selling. 65 825 mini led series set. I did get it on sale but they originally wanted 2k for it. It doesn't bloom either but it was their technology leader and started the mini led tech every one is using now.
Because of that set you know I was able to buy a top end Sony with the same tech😁
And happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I have this TV in the 43" size and it's fine. it's a basic 4K panel. as a comparison Samsung's budget option gives you two HDMI slots a USB slot and a wired lan jack. that's it and it doesn't support Dolby Vision. this does and gives you four HDMI slots a USB wired lan a headphone jack and composite video and it supports Dolby. knowing all of that in advance I went with this unit 🙂
it might not be the sexiest tech toy out there but it's good for the basic 4K experience 😉

I'm watching the video on my TV as I leave this comment. I'm watching to get an idea of what TCL's entry level panels are like, because BB has the Pioneer branded 55", which uses a TCL panel, which is on sale for $269.99 until tomorrow. It's a Fire TV with 3 HDMI inputs, HDR, Dolby Vision and DTS-X. So, one of my main concerns was with the viewing angles, and while I shouldn't assume, I assume the 4 series will look similar to the Pioneer.

    • @BRIANSTECHTHERAPY

My Walmart had these 65" for $250. They have chopped prices for the new bigger TV's that are coming in. Get it calibrated!!! I went to Best Buy & the TCL's looked just as good to me as the $5k TV's. I asked if they were all calibrated & she said yes. Not sure how much it cost but im still looking.
My 2nd 58" 6 series $269 backlighting went out again, so no more Hisense for me.

    • @Jack_80
      @Jack_80 Год назад +1

there's no reason you should need to get a tv calibrated, just a scam to make more money off of people. i have a tcl and it looks good enough the wat it was set up out of the box, but if it's capable of looking better, it should look that way out of the box rather than requiring calibrating thar most people aren't capable of doing themselves.

@@jameltanderson from what i've heard you need special computer software and it's a pain in the ass. i've just been using mine the way it is out of the box and it's good enough for me. i'm not paying as much as the tv cost or more for a slightly better picture.
there are some settings in the roku menu or something i adjusted to make the picture a little better. i forget exactly how to get to it but there's a video here on youtube showing you how to do it. it's not in the tv settings, it's in the roku settings or something, and lets you adjust sharpness and a few other things.
it's stupid that it's not just in the tv settings but it wasn't hard to do.

TCL 4 Series tv's do not have up scaling of images it receives. If the original source video is good to excelent quality, the TCL picture will look great. If its mediore or worse, it'll be real bad. The sound is horrendous on this unit. You will need a sound bar.
I was lucky and got a Vizio 2.1, bare bones unit, no woofer, etc., for a 40% clearence price, like $55. So spend/add a hundred plus bucks to your media investment.
I miss a number of higher end features that I'd get with LG, Samsung, or Sony. But have learned to live without them, almost. The TCL does have a stronger OTA, over the air, tv signal receiver than LG & Samsung. I gained a bunch of channels using the same rabbit ears as with the previous tv's. For city dwellers, don' t wast money on anything more than rabbit ears. I tried flat antennas, indoor/outdoor bigger aluminium units that look like scify energy guns. The rabbit ears with UHF loop won. I haven't owned Sony since we entered the digital age, so I can't speak to it's OTA reception.
My tv is on too many hours a day. Both the LG & Samsung did not hold up for such demanding usage. I over heated the power units with such constant use and only got 14 months out of the Samsung.
Knowing it's short comings, the TCL is a good tv for the money, especially when it's on sale. I have no idea how many years I will get out of it. But they will be satisfying if I get 5+ years from it. I do plan on buying Sony next time.
