  • Oscar Winning Sound Mixer Mark Ulano & Sound Utility Patrushka Mierzwa talk in this new URSA Exclusive series about their work on 'Ad Astra.'
Mark & Patrushka are a husband & wife Sound Team who have made a lasting impact on the art of cinema audio since they began working together in the 1980s.
Their credits span well over 100 Film & Television Projects and their contributions to the film 'Titanic' in 1997 earned them an Oscar for 'Best Sound.'
They were especially busy this past awards season with both 'Ad Astra' & 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' being nominated for 'Best Sound.'
In Part One of this two part series our host Kim Kylland asks Mark & Patrushka how they were able to capture the original performances on a set with all the technical & creative challenges a film of this scale brings.
Thank you so much to Mark & Patrushka for agreeing to be a part of this series. We are so grateful for your time and hope that this video can help people in sound and in other fields in film making to better appreciate the work that goes into the sound mix we often take for granted!

Really enjoy these interviews... But with two such talented professionals... With Mark being so dominant we are probably missing a lot of Patrushka's experiences...

I was about to say that too... It must be pretty difficult to work with him - especially for someone lower down the pecking order. At least he's aware of his big ego ;)

It would really be great if you can do the mix recording engineers of 1917

Hey Lawn, yes we would love to speak with the sound team who did 1917. If you would like to hear from Stuart Wilson the Production Sound Mixer we would recommend having a listen to this podcast : tonebenderspodcast.com/126-production-mixer-stuart-wilson-on-1917/

very useful and interesting video again. Thanks for this :)
must do this question though: there's boom and lav for this interview, right? now where is the lav hidden on him? with that hairy chest.. not even a foamie or mini mount can escape the crunchiness..! collar of the shirt?

@@jmendel8 yer it was. I believe that Marks was using a white fur circle over the mic - you can kinda see it from the side angle

Fun fact: all videos about capturing great audio have the worst audio possible.
