You can see why Slash and Izzy gelled so well..they both play that bluesy, "swagger" rock n roll style guitar...Slash a bit more ACDC, Izzy, a bit more Southern Soft Rock.... Eagles/Bob Dylan ..but with Rolling Stones' grit... together...dynamite.
Duff, punk, hard thumping..
Steve...80's hard rock, big snappy snare sound (which I just love!)
And Axl...the unstable Nuclear warhead...ready to.lay waste to whole cities...but stacked with charisma and visceral, angsty,sexual stage presence.
A dangerous line-up...

Love all the comments about Steven and Izzy. GN'R were really broken when Stevie was trown out and they died without Izzy. As much as I like Matt and Gilby, that's the truth

I disagree about Adler. There's always that nostalgia of "the former members were better", but why would Adler be so important? He didn't write songs, he didn't sing and I think that in no way he was a better drummer than Sorum. And even if you disagree about this last thing, a drummer is replaceable. In the case of Izzy, it's completely different because he was a songwriter and in fact wrote most of the best songs of GnR. A band that is no longer able to produce more good songs is dead, that's why Izzy's departure killed them.

Helmut83 Yes, it has a lot to do with nostalgia. Everyone can be replaced (with maaayyyybe an exception of the lead singer) as long as they aren't contributing to the process of writting, but Adler wrote his drumming parts and I'm not saying his were better or worse than Matt's. They are both very different when it comes to playing.
When Adler was out, rhytm section collapsed and had to be rebuilt with Matt and they were clearly different.
Izzy said himself that although Matt played technically right, everything just sounded wrong. And that was one of the reasons Izzy left.

+Helmut83 Every drummer is different.Steven has more of a swing pop/Jazz feel in the way he hits the skins and Matt is more of just a hard rock drummer.How you hit those skins makes a world of difference....Same as playing Guitar....10 different people can play the same song with the same guitar and amp rig but everyone of them will sound different.

@@Helmut83 Nothing against Duff, but his voice isn't relaxing. Izzy has the identical voice to Bob Dylan. Duff's voice is quite normal and common
Axl's normal voice is beautiful and he sings well. But when he sings it gets too rough. Looks like he's scratching chalk on a school blackboard. It's agonizing and at the same time it chills your spine

VR is too leaden for me. I really think the end came for GNR when Steven got kicked out. The Illusion albums are still great, but really, they sound like just really good pedestrian hard rock. Whereas, Appetite swung. That was all Steven. Izzy brought the roots, the hooks, the attitude and the songwriting. Even though I love Gilby, when Izzy left, that when whatever spark remained was gone.
