My favorite part about this chat is hearing about the love for the midsections. Those old songwriting focused bits in VR tracks are what made me appreciate music as much as I do
@@iFeature Sup king! Anyway, yeah midsections are my favorite part to work on. Not copying the intro for the midsection and actually sitting down to create a melodic and percussive landscape that takes you to another place is so fun to do. Sometimes I get carried away and accidentally create a whole song from that midsection alone lol

Simulation is honestly just a gem of an album. Val needs more recognition as a song writer/producer. I'm super into harder dubstep, but songs like Rewrite and Chroma are some of my favorite compositions of all time. He should VIP every song from his Still Kids EP like Lost It 😂
50:07 I actually do this with my snares! I’ll duplicate with a few clippers on each and bounce the whole group down and just use one of the hits before the phasing hits. It’s a good secret for one shots or quick sounds for making them louder without necessarily always adding extra gain or headroom (in some cases)
I laughed so hard on that guitar center story, I still remember years ago I booked you guys's studio for a session, during the break you were telling me about planning to make sample pack and youtube stuff, awesome content :D

Quick geek-out moment since the answer in the podcast was a bit blurry - Chime and Ace Aura are seen as the originators of colour bass and melodic riddim. I think Chime is practically the CEO, being the strongest force pushing for the term, pushing for the sound, and with all the work he's done with Rushdown and now Circus. Nawtystep did a great interview with them a few years ago where they really dig into it!

Anyway, if you reach out to them, I’m sure this podcast will get a LOT of recognition, considering how much color bass has been blowing up recently!
Fuck man 10 minutes in and I already knew this from his videos but, his genius and knowledge of frequency and how it correlates to reality and matter is other worldly. He truly understands why things are the way they are in terms of sound design, because it all has to do with reality.
I have been listening to this show for about a month now and the information as well as insight from these artists is amazing! Please keep this up guys!
I was literally thinking today : when are they gonna release the VR episode since you could see clips of it in the intro. I guessed you would put it as a milestone EP like the 10th, 15th or possibly even 100th. Came back home and you dirty mfs surprised us all. Super excited for the Production video. Thankyou XLNT.
Growls have static formants , Use Phaser to isolate those formants so it doesn't get affected by midi notes . Great tip! Also throw a spectral resonator on it also . Unison on The FM signal is insane also
The hell? I expected to hear just some sounddesign tips and what not ... but got the most wholesome moment on the bassmusic internet? Come ooon! ❤ Loved the Guitar Center part! 😁 The best thing is when you rewind that moment and see guys just secretly hinting at each other all along as VR tells the story himself. 😁
Loved the pod, been watching this channel for 4 years now. I have a question for ya'll and any producers in the comments feel free to chime in as well. I just started really trying to get into producing about two or three months ago. I have tried to learn how to produce multiple times in the past years but quit after being overwhelmed and not being able to express the ideas i have in my head and convert it to Ableton. Obviously I know it takes years and years to get to the level of these producers that can do the simple stuff in their sleep. I have got a little bit better already in being able to get a rhythm and a grove and a vibe in my songs that structurally sounds good but i always have problems when knowing what effects and eq's ect. that a certain sound needs to really make it sound the best it can. I have made a couple decent projects recently where I will have an intro, build up and a drop but always end up scrapping the project because it just sounds a little off or like something is missing. For me its just hard because I have invested so much into my gear and essential plugins and i watch so many videos and have spent so much time learning but it never seems to translate quite right for me. I know people say that your music in the beginning is supposed to sound bad it takes time that's how you learn but for me its also just hard to complete something and know its not great. I really don't know where the question is in this lol I guess I really just complained but any advice would be helpful if you were brave enough to read this far lmao. Cheers!!
If it sounds off, change it until it you like it. Throw away sounds as much as necessary, but don't throw away your entire project. Learn about subtractive synthesis. Always finish your tracks, and never share them until they are finished. There's nothing more depressing than unfinished tracks. Having completed ones allows you to see improvement across time, and links in with memories and emotions of that stage of your life. Have fun. It's supposed to be playful. It's music for heaven's sake. Watch tutorials whenever you get stuck. Don't try to please anyone else. Make whatever sounds good to you.
