My dad worked harvesting sugar cane in Queensland, Australia, in the early 70s. It was a hard, horrible job in the tropical heat and humidity. He was always prone to put on weight, but after working there my Mum says he became rail thin. This reminds me so much of him. He was very proud of being a working class man. He passed last year. Jimmy Barnes an absolute Australian legend. I buried my dad to this song in 2005 and it’s like every single word/lyric was written for him, my dad a true blue Aussie did everything for his family worked every day of his life for his family. Jimmy's record company asked Jonathan Cain from Journey to write a song for Jimmy's upcoming album. In Jonathan's book he wrote that no song ideas were coming to him. Then one day he went outside with his dog and started throwing a tennis ball. His dog would run after it and bring back to him. As they did this over and over, Jonathan started thinking about his father and how hard he worked to support his family. The title "Working Class Man" came to him. He said to his dog, " Okay, I have an idea for a song now. I have to go inside and work on it."

Well as I am sure you know; we miss al lot of good artists from Down Under due to the 'Suits' here in the U.S. I was turned onto a great Aussie band I missed out on just a few weeks ago while in Phoenix, Arizona and I am P'sd off they are great and I was cheated out of 30 years of pleasure. I'm a "HUGE" INXS, AC/DC, Dire Straits, and then I like some of Olivia Newton John's stuff also. But I am going to check into this Mr. Barnes and spread him around. I'm going to share this song on my Facebook page. There are people that will like that and I am sure have never heard of him here. Thanks for sharing it; I would still be ignorant and cheated. :.)

I some how stumbled on this album when I was 14 back in 86. In fact I still have the cassette. Love the entire tape. I would listen to it all day mixing clay in an old factory dough mixer. These rang close to my heart as a blue collar American farm boy. The words connected with mine and families history. Never forget what really matters and where you came from. It's the working class men and women that are the backbone where ever you come from. Embrace your roots.

One of my absolute favourite songs of all time
Cranking it up in tempo and volume.....one of our best....rock on Jimmy.....
I not familiar with this guy; it appears I missed out. Have to do some self educating it appears.
***** Wow really?....he's quite a big name and now his son sings too....David Campbell......
I take it he is Aussie? y/n
***** yes he is
Well as I am sure you know; we miss al lot of good artists from Down Under due to the 'Suits' here in the U.S.

A great salute to all Working Class folk out there.
Thanks Jimmy Barnes for all your talent, time and effort to bless us with memorable songs and performances as one of Australia's foremost success stories in rock music! Keep on Rocking. CHEERS from another Working Class Man, Paul Geno.
Working hard to make a living
Bringing shelter from the rain
A father's son left to carry on
Blue denim in his vein
Oh oh oh, he's a working class man
Well he's a steel town disciple
He's a legend of his kind
He's running like a cyclone
Across the wild mid western sky
Oh oh oh, he's a working class man
He believes in god and Elvis
He gets out when he can
He did his time in Vietnam
Still mad at Uncle Sam
He's a simple man
With a heart of gold
In a complicated land
Oh he's a working class man
Well he loves a little woman
Someday he'll make his wife
Saving all the overtime
For the one love of his life
He ain't worried about tomorrow
'Cause he just made up his mind
Life's too short for burning bridges
Take it one day at a time
Oh oh oh, he's a working class man
Oh oh oh, he's a working class man
Oh yeah
Yes he is
Well he's a working class man
Oh
Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma
I tell you he's a working class man
Working class
Working class man
Yes he is
Working class
Working class man
I want to tell you he's a working class man
Working class
Working class man
Ma ma ma
Working class
Working class man
I got to tell you he's a working class man
Working class
Working class man
Working class
Working class man
I tell you he's a working class man
Working class
Working class man
Working class
Working class man
I tell you he's a working class man
Working class
Working class man (know he is)
Working class
Working class man
I tell you he's a working class man

I'm a Pom and over the years of living in Australia, I've heard more and more Jimmy Barnes/Cold Chisel and I have to say, at first, it didn't connect. BUT, now I am totally hooked and seen him live at least 4 times. Totally awesome solid, rock, with simple lyrics which somehow really do make that all important connection. 30 likes to counter the 30 dislikes below!
Hi Thanks, how long have you been my fan?
@@jimmybarnes7722 I became a convert by the time other friends were raving about “Freight Train Heart” then I started hearing more & more Cold Chisel on WSFM whilst in Sydney. Certainly by the time I last saw you (ten years ago at Ivan’s 60th in France!) I loved a lot of your music. Incidentally, I’ve recently undergone spinal surgery after breaking my back, so my thoughts are with you. Good luck !
Amazing! Sending love to you. I have less activities over the next few months because of my surgery too, I now have a little time to talk with whoever I want lol. Seems we have that in common, i believe the universe has plans for all of us. One love ❤️
@@jimmybarnes7722 I was given 3 vital pieces of advice post-surgery:
1. Do everything your physio tells you.
2. Do everything your physio tells you.
3. Do everything your physio tells you.
Peace & love.

Aha! Now someone finally understands me. I think we need to chat more privately since we’re both healing together.

I remember a few years ago, when I was in year 9 english.
It was an all boys english class, and we were doing Australian culture as the topic at the time. No one else seemed to have any sense of proper music, so I sung this song. Still no regrets for knowing what good music is.
WOAAAHHH HE'S A WORKIN CLASS MAAANNNN
My dad was a Airforce veteran & worked in the oil field. Great song!❤😎🤘
I’m a Jimmy Barnes fan of many years. The film clip of burning and harvesting the sugar cane, where was it filmed? I spent years in QLD in the sugar cane. I have quite a number of Jimmy’s and Cold Chisel CDs. He’s the best
GREAT TO COME BACK TOO
Hello Magdalinnie,
How are you doing?
It’s nice meeting you here.
@@jimmybarnes7722 I’ve got a signed framed vinyl of Working Class Man and it’s also my ring tone. I have quite a few Barnsey and Chisel CDs. I bought Driving Wheels when I was younger. My EX husband smashed it. Now you know why he’s my ex. Thanks to you and your family keeping us entertained during Covid
Thanks for the love, comments like this hits me differently and I’m sorry you had to go through all that, I’m sure the universe has plans to give you the best man of your dreams. One love ❤️
@@jimmybarnes7722 I have him now xx
wow...it make you feel that there's nothing bad about being a working class man, even you cannot be a middle -class or high-class man!
What are the other classes without working class?
its the most honest class to belong to
It doesn't get any more Aussie than that! STRAYA!
Happy birthday for the 28th April jimmy.

Good singer and song.
I cant believe this is the aaaahhaaaa guy. I have so much more respect for him knowing hes legit talented and did the whole thing as ridiculous as it is with such passion. Fucking legend

Anybody here because of the meme
They should play this at every center link lol
Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here
Like TheBiasedBloodAngel here has said, Australians also fought in Vietnam, along with the US, Millions of protests happened around Australia in response to the Vietnam war, and A lot of the Anger was Directed to the US for Going in there, especially when a lot of the public claimed it was a war they could not win, and They didn't, and consequently Australia was dragged in with it. Hence 'He did his time in Vietnam, still mad at Uncle Sam'
This song makes me think of two things
1. The last scene in the movie Gung Ho
2. When America had factories
Best song to have ever been written and sung by the finest most well respected musician, song writer to walk this earth.
Renee Atkins he didn't write this, but I totally agree that it's amazing
Renee Atkins Johnathan Cain wrote it. He's from a band called journey and. Also played in the babies.
