Yes- the shell Cordovan is really smooth to the touch. Even after a year+ of having it, it's still amazing.

I got a custom Fat Herbie in cigar shell and emerald green on exterior with full amaretto interior and got it with hidden card slots and hand stitched. What I learned is that the hand stitch does not look as refined as the machined stitch thread. And the hidden card slots make it much thicker which I did not like. I have a Fat Herbie in color #8 and it looks very elegant and refined. Just ordered a Fat Herbie all in Amaretto. Saw your custom Fat Herbie in natural and blue, looks great.
That custom Fat Herbie sounds like a really good color combo. I'm loving the cigar shell cordovan color. I've never seen emerald green, but I bet it goes well with cigar. I love the amaretto color, too. I debated on getting my Fat Herbie in natural or amaretto. Did you ever make a video about your wallet? I'd love to see it.

I just ordered this exact wallet as my dress wallet. I have a fat Herbie in amaretto shell cordovan for EDC in my jeans.
Right on! Yeah- I've been going back and forth between the natural shell cordovan or amaretto for the Fat Herbie. Can't wait to get one! Hope you like the one you just ordered.
@@JustinSpeer Yeah, the natural shell and amaretto are close and both will patina up nicely. I went with amaretto because I thought the extra orange and red tones might stand out a little better once the patina comes in. Cigar Johnny the Fox comes by UPS tomorrow. I may end up carrying two wallets for a while just to break them in.
You can't go wrong with the Fat Herbie, it's pretty awesome. I just doesn't fit well with my suits that I wear at least once a week for church, which is why I went for the Johnny the Fox as well.

I really like the leather but may not be for every person. Its not just the price but also the thickness even without the cards.
V, good point. Yes- I know the trend lately has been to go for a minimalist wallet. I'm still one of the old school holdouts who prefers a little more in a wallet. Although in certain situations- like for hiking- I drop down to a much smaller wallet. But you make a great point.

Yeah- with the Ashland products, I have two wallets and a belt now, but I still have other items on my wish list. Just need to pace myself... Regarding the video, I just used a tripod that allows a mount underneath. The drawback to that is that you have to adjust the zoom just right so you don't pick up the tripod legs in the video. But since then, I purchased a Slik "Creators Series" studio kit with a clamp and sliding arm. It's perfect for filming overhead shots with an iPhone. It's on Amazon for $139 and totally worth it if you film close up RUclips videos.

Hi, James. I haven't tried the zipper wallet yet. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any of the Ashland Leather products. I really like my Shell Cordovan Johnny the Fox as well as my custom Shell Cordovan Fat Herbie. But the shell cordovan leather sells at such a premium. I think for the best value, the English Tan Dublin leather is a great choice.
How is the wallet now? Has it been worn in a little and looks aged ?
The wallet is definitely getting worn in and feeling comfortable- not as stiff as it was originally. And yes- there are plenty of little scratch marks on it. But surprisingly, it is still buttery smooth to the touch. And I love how it still has the incredible leather smell. I love this wallet! I feel like it's going to last a lifetime.
