Honda Ruckus | First Ride

- It’s been one year since I’ve made this video. I finally got around to making a second ride video of the Honda Ruckus. It’s out now. Thanks so much for 100,000 views.
After riding motorcycles for many years I finally had opportunity to ride a scooter. It happens to be a Honda Ruckus. I love the "utilitarian" look of the Ruckus but don't actually think it's as useful as a "classic" styled scooter (like a Vespa) with a real trunk under the seat. I am hopeful to test ride a Vespa a little later this year.

You don't always have to go a million miles per hour on a motorcycle to have fun. My 2007 Ruckus is approaching 24,000 miles. Still just as fun as the first time I rode it back in 2008. I'm planning on buying a Honda Rebel 500. Am I going to trade in my Ruckus? Hell No!!!!
Well said. I completely agree. I was looking at getting the Honda CB500X myself. But I got a wicked deal on the CB650F.
on my second one! love the ruckus
Selling a bike is never morally justified.
It's like selling your first born child when a new baby arrives.
When I was about 5 years old, my brother and I got a 50cc Honda dirtbike. We shared and rode that thing off road and all over the neighborhood until we were teenagers. Everyone loved it and never had any issues out of it. Later we moved up to an Elite moped and then I got an enduro from there. Looking at this Ruckus just as a cheap toy and maybe an alternative to an E Bike. At least I can go faster, street legal and keep up with traffic better. E Bike could still be good for parks, etc., but the Ruckus seems more practical for running to get some lunch around town.
Thanks so much for your comment. I still love the Ruckus. Tons of smiles for sure. 👍
I bought the 8 dollar foot pegs off Amazon.... TRANSFORMED my bike into a motorcycle.. absolutely fantastic. Definitely do the pegs..
I also put on a spitfire windshield.. gained about two mph..
Everything else is bone stock .
Love my Ruckus.
Thanks so much for your comment. The Ruckus is more fun than it should be.
I'm thinking about getting one. I live in a condo with expensive parking, but I discovered the other day that there's free scooter parking. It was a eureka moment for me. I was like "why the hell don't I own a scooter?"
I am still thinking I want to add a scooter to my garage as well. 👍
Very true an gas is a plus as well no insurance needed for 49cc scooters only problem is weather.
We still need a plate and insurance here. But it’s inexpensive.
@@UrAvgRider that's cool Massachusetts is different but still a saving with those Honda groms out even more cool options.
@@gregtheone975 still need insurance and plates where I live. Gas, insurance, and payments are still cheaper than a single parking spot in my building though. I bought it a few weeks ago. One of the best purchases I've ever made. I live in pacific northwest, weather is the best you're going to get in Canada for a scooter. I'll be investing in some rain pants this winter for sure.
Nice video. Exactly what I was looking for. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your comment.
My "nieces" Scooter
I'd still maybe like to get a rukkus. They look like a quality piece of stuff and everybody I've talked to loves theirs. Thanks for the input!
Thanks so much for your comment.
Love the pink key tag ! 😂 45 riding years , 15 bikes , over 300,000 miles and my review is exactly as yours , but no Vespa ... I live in a small town where it snows , working a deal with Santa and it's looking good for him to drop a black Ruckus under the tree ! Stud the tires and now it's a street legal winter toy !
Thanks so much for your comment. A winter Ruckus would be awesome.
An open mind is a great thing to have.
Agreed. Thanks for your comment.
Great video! Good information without the filler.
Thanks so much! I appreciate the comment.
Good god, this brings back memories me riding my ruck when it was bone stock. Super high seat, slow acceleration and quiet as hell. Definitely still fun regardless.
Thanks so much for your comment.
High seat ??????? What ????
Getting a 2022 Grey model soon. I can take a back way to work (max speed is 35 the whole way) which equal 17 miles a day. I will use less than a gallon a week. I miss mu old motorcycle, but the Ruckus will do just fine.
I love it. Thanks so much for your comment.
Great content
Nice and honest, review.
Thanks so much for your comment.
Good one. Im not the only one with that grin on my face ! :-) I love mine. I made a cardboard pattern of the sides under the seat. Cut some 1/4 hardware cloth, screen and painted it black to match the Ruck. Used zip ties to hold it on there. Watch for sharp edges and snip them or run black silicon over them. People thought it came like that.
Use a cloth grocery bag for heavy stuff and park it on the floor board, back pack and more groceries under the seat. :-) Good to go.
Nice. I love little home made fixes. Thanks for your comment.
@@UrAvgRider Thanks for the videos. Long story - my lungs are shot and Im on disability so I don’t always sleep well and forget to put my feet down at times ROFL 200 pounds is easy to catch. LOL Plus being 60, Im getting to old to mess around. Well almost ;-) Im on Ruck #2 :-) Peace !
Awesome. I love that you’re still riding because that’s what you love to do.
It must be registered in Florida it has to have a license plate but no license required and it's light enough to get up a few steps onto a porch for storage
I’m picking mine up on Friday! A new, out of the crate, 2019 in black. The only thing I’m concerned about is theft. I live in a smallish flat city and plan primarily to ride it a mile to work and back on fair weather days. There I can park it in the basement of my office building.
I got a 2019 one love it so much! So fun mate!
Get a chain cable something
Getting three of these beauty in 2 weeks
Let me have one 😁
Get a grom much better I’ve owned both
@@jco5254 what's a grom
Honda Grom is a 125cc small scale motorcycle. They’re pretty awesome too.
@@UrAvgRider yeah they get 135mpg, 21 more than the ruckus!
I love small channels and try to give my support!
Thanks so much. I appreciate it.
i decked mine out with foot pegs and way better than feet flat on running boards. yep, great for a winding country road or in town cruises.
I’ll have to check the pegs out. Thanks so much for your comment. 👍
@@UrAvgRider i had dealer take off the floor boards which exposes the gas tank. then foot pegs which are a "cross bar" assembly fit and a fake or real carbon fiber tank cover as don't remember. looks great stripped down like that and bought from a site hondaruckus this or that .com. also check out a luggage rack from cycleracks.com, a co. in idaho i believe as i have it and do grocery runs like 40-50 lb. with a canvas bag and 60" ROK straps.
I definitely have to google that
I'd like to try that. I can't get comfortable with the floor.
Good review.
Thanks so much for your comment.
Porque no venden este modelo en Argentina?
Is the efi model any different to the carburettor model of ruckus ? I am looking at buying one in the UK and I will be doing the gy6 engine swap
Best I can tell, every Ruckus (in North America at least) is carb’d. It’s the Zoomer in other markets that is EFI. I’m sorry that I don’t know if there are any differences. How big are you going with the swap? There’s a few around here that I’m trying to get a hold of the owner so I can do a review. Thanks for your comment.
@@UrAvgRider only the 150 gy6 engine I'm just wondering would the efi model be different to swap the engine compared to the carburettor model
150 will be awesome!! I figured you were asking something like that. I am pretty sure the engines, mounts, and plumbing are the same. Besides the EFI (which can be added). But I don’t know 100% for sure. Sorry.
whats the storage space you have under yours? i would love to have that on mine!!
Thanks so much for your comment. I just Googled Honda Ruckus trunk and it was the first item in the shop area. I hope you find something in your area that will work for you. Thanks again.
I’m bout to turn 15 and in my sate you can get scooter license at 15 and I wanna drive something before I’m 16 so I’m gonna get a Honda rukus I already know how to drive one cause I race motor-cross so it’s no problem on that
I highly recommend a 49cc scooter for anyone with a learners license eventually wanting to get their motorcycle license. If used properly it’s a great training tool. Thanks for your comment.
Bro i just Buy My ruckus i
And is alwazys overheating after 4 Miles of ride also i just changed the coolant is this normal?
That’s not normal. You should have that checked out by a professional.
damn this was useful actually, been thinking of getting a ruckus but idk why i never thought about it not having a trunk, might look for something else with one!
Thanks for your comment.
350 miles on a 2023 so far it's getting 107 mpg top speed 42
That’s amazing!! Thanks so much for your comment.
I got 2019 ruckus n i love it .. 6000 miles n Not once have i had a problem with it . i drive it on n off road alot .
That’s awesome. Thanks so much for your comment. I would love to play with the Ruckus off road a little.
Just a quick question.. I’m 15 and want a scooter to drive myself to the gym and friends houses that a pretty close to me. Do you think it’s a good investment?? I’m looking at a 2015 for 1.3k is that a good deal?
Thanks so much for your comment. It’s not an investment that will increase in value. But I believe if you purchase the scooter, use it till you outgrow it (if that even happens) you could always sell it for what you paid for it. You will love the freedom. This scooter is my niece’s and she got it when she was 14 (almost 15).
Its definitely a good investment .. Im 46 n i really enjoy riding the ruckus . best thing about them is you can always modify them to your liking ..
@@UrAvgRider ok, I’ve worked my ass of to make my car the best when I get it, but it’s not going to work out. Too many problems with the shitty car. I’m buying the ruckus tomorrow, all my buddy’s have one😂😂
Hey with the 49cc do I need insurance or license I live in NYC
I don’t know if every State is the same. But I’m quite certain that you only need a learners license. But you still need insurance and registration for everything under 49cc.
I'm from NYC too I've been trying to figure it out but I haven't found any reliable information.
@@chrisd2051 i was checking a Honda ruckus and yes we need insurance . But is like 8 or 12 dollars a month
cant decide between this or the rough house
nice
Nice one
Thanks for your comment.
I really want to buy one to deliver food in, but I heard I need to get a motorcycle license? I'm in California.
I don’t know California law. Vespa makes an electric scooter. I’m also not sure what the laws are for that model. But it’s probably worth looking closer at.
Did you watch my second ride video on the Ruckus?
Thanks for your comment.
I have no problem going 60 on flat grounds with my stock ruckus and I'm 205 pounds 6feet tall.
I honestly was a little surprised how slow it is. I’m going to get into servicing the Ruckus and see if I can find a reason why it’s as slow as it is. Thanks so much for your comment.
@@UrAvgRider Is it, perhaps, restricted?
It could be. It’s not my Ruckus and it was purchased second hand. I would love to ride another just to compare. Thanks for your comment.
You should review the Honda mokey
I want to so badly. I would buy one. But they aren’t available in Canada yet.
What are you using to record
Thanks for your comment. I use a few different cameras, mic’s, etc. The ride video was with my DJI Osmo Action. But I was thinking of doing a video showcasing the equipment I use and how.
@@UrAvgRider I think making a video would be very helpful.. you welcome and thank you for your response
Thanks. I have a few projects already in the works, but I will get to it soon as I’ve already been tempted to make it. 👍
@Not All.there Watch tomorrow afternoon for the release of my new video showcasing the equipment I use. (Read my description as I give you credit). 👍
I'm 240 pounds will it support me and what's fastest with my weight
Best I can tell the capacity is 220 lbs. But I’ve heard others go above that. But in my opinion I believe ratings are there for a reason. Thanks for your comment.
Take some dnp and lose that weight fast buddy
Bro, how much price?
Brand new is about $2700 US (or $3300 CDN)
Does it require a licence
I believe laws could be different depending where you are. Law here requires insurance and a plate. But it can be ridden with only a learners license.
Thanks for you comment.
Can you please tell me the cost of your scooter.
I think it cost the owner about $2500 CDN. It’s a 2015 model year.
Rukus 101
An honest review.
Thanks for your comment. Have you watched my second Ruckus video?
@@UrAvgRider Not yet, I am going to.
I will be doing another Ruckus this year as well. Thanks again 🙏
Chase Harper underseat bag Hold quite a bit of grocery stuff; not s huge amount but enough room for basic food staple stuff like a quart of milk, eggs, loaf of bread , and deli meat stuff and such
I think that the lockable under seat storage was a big win for the Ruckus. It blends in really well.
It holds 4 2 liter soda bottles 1 can of pringles and 20 king sized Reeces.
All the essentials. 👍 I love me some Reece’s as well. Thanks for your comment.
I want to buy it for village
Thanks for your comment. Would be a good addition.
How tall are you? For comparison.
I say I’m 5’ 8” (with my boots on I guess). And just shy of 190lbs. Thanks for your comment.
Because she doesn't come to Brazil ! :(
it's good scooter ?
Thanks for your comment. It’s not simply just good or bad. But I can definitely recommend the Ruckus to everyone who wants a fun little vehicle. Thanks again.
if you're going to check out a Vespa check out the best for 300 it'll shock you how fast it is
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it. I will try and check out multiple displacement scooters. But I personally wouldn’t buy larger than a 49cc. I already have two motorcycles and where I live you need a motorcycle license to ride anything larger than a 49cc. So having a scooter for my children to ride would be preferred.
Check out the best for 300 what? A $300 Vespa? Id be surprised if i could manually push it 10mph
300cc
At todaays gas price it would go 20000 miles on 700 dollars
Thanks again. I keep looking at scooters myself.
If the stock Ruckus is 125cc like the Grom would be perfect
But you would need a motorcycle license then. Anything above 49cc. Thanks for your comment.
Yep very true I’ll have to sneak a Helix 250cc 😃 as the Huckus
I know there are people who have swapped in either a Honda 125 or 250 and keep it registered as the 50. I’ve also seen quite a few that are stretched. I’d love to do an in-depth video of a modified Ruckus or two.
You should take off the plastics under the seat.
It’s not my scooter. And the plastic was specifically added so there’s some lockable truck space. Thanks for your comment.
But you're speeding up the video!
Yes I am. The video would be at least twice as long if I didn’t. I may have sped up 4x
Am I the only one here from Danny Duncan?
I’m tryna get one just cuz of him
Must be restricted if you're only getting 30mph....
I suspect so. I expected it to go faster. Thanks so much for your comment.
@@UrAvgRider I've had no problems with any GET on Ruckus or Metro getting up to 42pmh stock. hmmmm completely different experience 😅
Nice. I will be doing another ride video on the Ruckus soon. I’ll look into the restriction and see if I can do anything about it. Thanks again.
Wish these came in a 125 or 150cc option
Yeah, I agree. With better brakes to help. But then you would still need a motorcycle license in my area. Thanks so much for your comment.
@@UrAvgRider Oh yeah I forgot about that lol. No problem keep up your great work!
Thanks again
No relations
Don't buy the ruckus Buy instead the GROM ruckus is alwazys overheating!!!
The Grom is also a great bike. But it requires a motorcycle license where the Ruckus can be driven by someone with a learners license. 125cc vs 50cc. Thanks for your comment.
His number plate is MGF 36
Not my scooter nor my plate. Doesn’t really matter, just trying to keep some privacy for the owner.
Sorry I can’t listen to some that Flintstone walks a scooter it obvious you’re not a good rider
Thanks for your comment. But what I said is that I felt like I could stop better if I put my feet out to stop Flintstone style. Not that I walk a scooter. I can ride and was a motorcycle instructor for a season.
I heard walking the bike Like an amateur that’s what I was referring to when I said Flintstones
I’m sorry. This doesn’t make any sense to me. 3:32 I talk about “Flintstones style” when stopping. There are CC if I’m hard to understand. Thanks.
The globe is a lie, mate
I suppose that depends on your point of view. I call myself UrAvgRider and could be anywhere in the world and deal with many similar things that other riders around the world deal with. Thanks for your comment.
