I had a 1933 big Flathead I restored it as close to factory as I could. I sold it when I got my first divorce for $8.500.00 in 1984 the same bike sold for $25.000 a few years back. My cousin did the paint and motor rebuild and he knew the bike and saw it at an antique bike sale in Lorain Ohio about 10 years ago. My first bike was a 1941 45ci Sport Solo that got totaled when a guy pulled out in front of me in 1970. I love the Flathead it is a great motors and easy to work on like a big lawn mower. Thanks for sharing Mike.
My father in 1970 described the motor to me like this ... me being only 10 yrs old .... as two Briggs lawnmower motors cut in half and welded together . I'll remember that forever !
Hung onto a 36 VLH 80 flatty for lots of years......( not knowing what i really had ) motor only. Just never had time or money....let it go for peanuts 15 years ago. Now retired and building toys wish i had kept it....So this one is gonna make me happy to see. Thanks for showing Mike....😎
Congrats on your choice of a classic, great, old school motor!!!!......VeryVeryVery cool......can't wait to see the build out...the install ... and to hear it run!!!.......gonna be a fun ride!!!.....I'm excited for you as well..... thanks for taking us along on this adventure!!
I love the old flathead motors. They look so uncluttered and uncomplicated, almost like a 2 stroke engine. The way you present your videos makes me feel I'm in the Workshop too ! Thanks Mike.
My UL as per my avatar was the most wonderful machine to ride. I put 1000's of miles on it last year and it never once moaned. I rode it 1300 miles in a weekend to Belgium to a show. Great great engines, lack a little power higher up the RPM, but with a 26 tooth it would no doubt even it out!
OMG, what a lovely engine! I kind of knew that it'll be a Flathead because You already have a Knuckle, Pan and Shovel, also I was hoping that it won't be another Knuckle (just because everyone like went crazy about Knuckles and builds them in dozens). I'm very happy to see a Flathead, very happy to see You happy and very excited about future videos about this gorgeous engine, frame, wheels and brass parts! Thank You for everything You do!
Hey Mike, its 330 am up here in Maine couldn't wait to watch your latest video, love the precise slow manner that you show the proper way to repair these great old bikes.i run a 1995 fully original fxdwg, love this evo power bike, need to do a few more on the evo. Thanks so much for the lessons. RIDE SAFE BROTHER
Man, I knew it, only motor that lays right in with the knuckle and panhead you have. There were quite a few of those motors and gas tanks floating around a few years ago from guys converting the ULs over to knuckleheads. I have 1946 UL engine, but it's missing the jugs, heads, intake and carb. Going to be great entertainment to watch.
What a sweet reveal Mike. I do recall more than one cup of coffee appreciating this motor on its stand in your kitchen. Long time coming and well deserved.
VERY COOL. I was hoping for a flat head and the rare 80 cubic inch makes it that much more awesome . Harley only did the 80 UL for a couple years if I remember H-D motor history . Looking forward to seeing the project unfold .
HI Mike, I truly appricate the time you are putting into the videos. Thank you for that. Because of you, i buyed a used 2016 Roadster with 5000 ml on the clock, and i just love every second on this bike. Understandibly so with all of your recent losses. Keep up the great content. I worked at HD as a technician from October 99 to July 2003. Love to see the old iron.
I'm excited.I just found an old picture of my dad on a flathead in 1964.Cant wait.I heard stories where the old fella ran it for a while at 65 mph for a bit and it overheated and seized the rear cylinder. He let it cool down and it fired back up.He continued home on the old dirt road without "chasing" it.lol.

Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait to see this build come along!
It's gonna be slow. I'm gonna savor it.
Great looking engine Mike
Thank You.
Hay Mike, I had that same engine....I miss that Bike.
I'll bet.
Nice! My 1942 still rolling. I love 80 Flatheads. They sound like a war machine. Made a manifold to accept a shorty E. It really moves!
I'll bet. Very cool.
An 80" Flathead in a chopper has been my dream bike forever. I really hope it comes together for you man
Thank You. It will.
Mike, i love your plans for the engine, love it. I would have to have her a kick start with a tank shift no matter what else i ended up with. Cant wait to see more of your videos 🤘
A flathead??!! Outstanding. This is going to be great. Way to go Mike.
Thank You.
Thats one beautiful engine, cant wait to see you build her up.
Thank You.
Maybe I’m crazy, but I love flatheads. I drive a flathead Ford V8 almost every day. Never had one in a bike, although I’ve always wanted one.
The 80” flatties are COOL. I’m following this build for sure!
Cool.Thank You. I have a Merc Flathead in my 40 Pickup. Kinda fond of 'em myself.
Hot-digity-dog!!!! Mike you are so awesome!! That is one beautiful flatty!! Man, Man, Man!! It makes me happy just seeing how excited you are, I’m just as excited as you are Mike!! This is going to be an awesome build, I save every one of your videos because they’re interestingly educational. Each segment of this build will also be saved! Thanks again Mike, your excitement is priceless! I’m waiting 👀!
