Artis the Spoonman (born 3 October 1948, Kodiak, Alaska) is an American street performer from Seattle, Washington who uses spoons as a musical instrument. The Soundgarden song "Spoonman" is about him. He played the spoons in the song and appeared in the music video. Artis has also shared the stage and recording studio with Frank Zappa. His song "Wake Up Call" leads off the 1994 compilation Northwest Post-Grunge. He has made tv appearances on the BBC and Late show with Letterman among others.
i love how he plays things on his face... and that weird rod that guy is playing is also one of the coolest things I've ever seen really spectacular stuff
The theremin is an early electronic musical instrument controlled without contact from the player. It is named after its Russian inventor, Professor Léon Theremin, who patented the device in 1928. The controlling section usually consists of two metal antennas which sense the position of the player's hands and control oscillators for frequency with one hand, and amplitude (volume) with the other. The electric signals from the theremin are amplified and sent to a loudspeaker.
definetly never seen anything quite like that before.. what the hell is the name of those weird sound stick things? ive seen bill bailey playing them and they are incredible
wow such an amazing video. and of course music itself, but i have a question; does anyone know what instrument that guy in the blue shirt and pony tail is playing?
FREAKS! DRUGS! CRAZY! Damn, I LOVE Morgan Agren man. It's a shame that the mics didn't pick up the spoons and shit from the sppon man any better when the band kicked in. I believe he played some wicked ass shit there towards the end when he got REALLY carried away :) Impressive.
Not Meshuggah's drummer, no. Tomas Haake is Meshuggah's drummer. This is Morgan Agren, drummer on Fredrik Thordendal's solo album Sol Niger Within. Which may be what is confusing you.
I'm down with any blind dude willing to goof with his own equilibrium while jamming with the spoon man. Did someone cue him into spinning like that or was that improv?

Praise God for non-commercial television!
Approximately four billion years of evolution brings us here, to this critical point.
xD thank you
yes it is the same spooman as in the Soundgarden song, he says it in the video
That was awesome. The two songs I've heard from this band are both excellent. The level of skill is greater than most bands', for sure.

Mats Morgan band rules, and any drummer (morgan agren) that Zappa loved before he died is a genius.

I want to know how he didn't end up face down in the tom-tom rack after spinning around like that at the end of the video.
Is the spoon drumming reall or is it just playback??
He's also fucking awesome!
