This man is superhuman. This is some of the most amazing, natural, elgant drumming I've ever seen. I'm not a drummer, but I still can't believe I didn't know him already. I may become fully conscious again in a week or so...
he is one of those drummers who has the unbelievable rare talent of making the most complex shit (and that really is some of the most complext shit) look so damn easy, he hasnt even broke a sweat. GOD
I really can't fathom what's going on here, but I'm pretty sure if I could understand jazz solos a little better I'd know that it's awesome. The look on the lady's face is priceless!
i m immensly proud of my roots, only if you check out you get tonns of good sweedish bands. Most known are opeth, Meshuggah, In Flames,The Haunted and At The Gates. All amazing
@CarroT0P IT's the same for every of artistsOf course in the past we had a very good musicians (where in same case their fame were raised by ppls),but we really need to start accept new concepts and ideas
Nice one, I don't get all the comments about it not having groove (or whatever you wanna call it). I thought it did, but that's just my opinion. Very groovy, very cool!

I'm in a Jazz history class currently and after learning and listening to buddy rich. His ego was way bigger than his playing....yeah sure he was the best, for his time. But people need to open their eyes to more abstract and complex playing like Morgan does. Morgan is way more expressive and in depth with his knowledge and feel for music.
Drummers having the most physically active role in a live musical composition, can't be hindered by a three piece suit. But at least he could have got a shave and a haircut, haha! He looks like he rolled out of bed, then laid down a stellar drum track.
don't look down on people who don't like this, it's fully understandable. I would like to think that he plays an improvised solo like the way a pianist would do. Removing the borders between instruments, he's playing in no special time but in tune, like the pianist for example, and he's wailing like a singer but on the drums. I don't really like listening to this, but i think of what i've written when i hear it.
joe and morgan are different drummers.. both representing totally different eras in music and drumming. joe comes from a much older generation and is fantastic! morgan is a younger breed and has different ideas.. i wouldnt champion one over the other because they're so different. i think morgans phrasing in this solo is completely unique.. the spaces he's finding are very interesting. i dont think his intention is to swing in any conventional sense of the word.
I don't see why a jazz drummer should be compared to a contemporary one. It's needless to argue who's better anyway, they represent totally different styles. It's only up to our personal preference.
I can see he's one of the best drummers out there..but I find it really difficult to follow aurally or enjoy a drum solo..I guess because I am a guitarist, I am used to that instrument..
the woman at 2:06 is not having a good time, looks as if she was saying: damn hippie! wear a suit and get a hair cut and then come back! morgan rules! swedish musicians rule
Dude, if you think Morgan Agren sounds like he is falling down the stairs then you really know nothing about music and probably not much in general. Go listen to Green Day or something a little easier to follow.
If you want to talk about creativity and "musical" drumming. Look no further than Joe Morello. This Morgan guy is unique in a certain sense, but it's nothing inspiring. It's dry and boring. It's the sound of technical tinkering. There's no bop, no jive, no rock, no groove, no swing in this solo. Or maybe he's light years ahead of the curve but I don't see anything amazing here, other than some guy with a lot of talent that took it in a dull direction.
The looks on the conductor & other musicians faces say it all.

He palyed at the local jazz club in my town yesterday :) (small town in sweden) He was boss.
my fav kind of cymbals
This song is "Waka Jawaka".
Check it out it's in the album with a same title.
I am convinced he is the greatest drummer alive
This guy's cool, I'm noticing the way I'm playing lately is alot more similar to his than I intended. Good drummer.
Ooooooh, that song that comes in right at the end of the video sounds pretty magnificent. I'd love to see/hear it in full!
He is badass!
i think the title is wakawa jawaka by frank zappa. it is on "zappas universe". well worth a look or hear.

@josedrumer don't agree - she's getting into the groove, watch that head nod throughout the solo

I think this is taken from the Zappa's Universe concerts, because I can see Ike Willis on guitar, and Tommy Mars on keyboards
If anyone can tell me who that orchestra is, and how i can see more of them playing this set, please message me! lovelove
@Khempejjer contemporary jazz!
this superhuman plays in the "Mats & Morgan band", check it out u should
HA.
It sounded like Zappa in the beginning? Some of his orchestral arrangments? This guys the shit...
no shit that ruled
Anyone have any Idea where this was recorded at? I'd love to see more video, or atleast find an audio version of it. If anyone knows lemme know.
Who are the others in the band? excluding the orchestra
sweet. i was wondering who that guy was. any idea who the white lad next to him at 3:40 is?
the hi hat is in a constant beat right?
what concert is this or dvd?

totally
He plays like Jimmy Carl Black. Just like old Zappa recordings.

Definatlely Zappa...
Guthrie Govan of drums over here
HAHAHA i think it's funny how everyone looks so confused and the one afro black dude seems to know exactly what that crazy swed is doing.
He's the Swedish Zach Hill.
the Afroman is, i believe...Ike Willis from Zappa fame..isn't it????
kinda reminds me of like a fusion ginger baker.
I can see he's one of the best drummers out there..but I find it really difficult to follow aurally or enjoy a drum solo..I guess because I am a guitarist, I am used to that instrument..
If he ever wants to get better, I could give him some lessons!
Morgan literally bent time itself.
was that fuckin Paul Simon on bass? haha
HA! I was thinking the same... classical dudes: go play straight 8ths. in 4/4 if you want, but down frown the man in the drumkit
@ultimatefighter187
shit lol
the woman at 2:06 is not having a good time, looks as if she was saying: damn hippie! wear a suit and get a hair cut and then come back!
morgan rules!

If buddy was still living hed be just as good if not better than morgan. and im sure if you asked morgan hed tell you buddy rich was amazing.
I find it extremely annoying that they are either getting a closeup of his face, or one single drum almost the whole time

Your ears are too dry to hear it...
Yet another pointless comparison of visionary artists from DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS.
No fucking way dude. Hes good...but no Buddy.
this is gay....how is this even anywhere close to buddy? come on... this is GAY....it's some burn out just randomly tappin the skins
that was terrible..
