FWIW, I bought the 16-inch M4 Max w/ 128GB and ended up returning it. I instead ordered a 14-inch M4 Pro w/ 48GB. This will be a secondary machine. The Max was impressive, but it's still not able to replace my Threadripper+4090 setup, and I'd far rather use a desktop for that workload (screen recording, video editing, VMs, etc.) anyway.
@@RunForPeace-hk1cu I thought that was implied. The computer isn't as performant as the Threadripper+4090, despite what Geekbench 6 would have you believe. Especially in Premiere Pro, timeline performance and export times were simply better on the PC. I use Windows, macOS, and Linux daily for my workflows, but for my specific use case, the M4 Max just isn't a good value. In my opinion, the combination of a PC desktop and Mac laptop seems to work best.
I bought the maxed out Pro chip as I couldn’t rationalize the 1250 upgrade to the max. And I like the 14” form factor for mobility. The Max is super special for someone who wants an all-in-one solution. I am going to wait for the M4 Studio for a desktop class. That thing will likely and truly blow out the 4090.
Woohoooo!!! Ever since you returned m1 max around 4 months ago, I have been waiting for your mac coverage!! Sheeeeshh this laptop is crazy powerful! I would love to see future coverage man!
Thank you for your initial review of the new MacBook Pro M4 Max-it looks incredibly impressive in terms of performance. However, I'm also interested in the quality aspects, particularly regarding video encoding. Could you please test the H.264 encoding quality of the hardware encoders in the 6-8 Mbps range? This bitrate is commonly used for 1920x1080 streaming on social platforms like Facebook and RUclips. I have access to an Apple Mac M1 and have tested its hardware encoders at low bitrates. Unfortunately, the quality was dismal compared to NVIDIA's NVENC encoders (like the Pascal P2000, P4000, etc.) at the same bitrate. According to some sources, the M4 has different hardware encoders. While it's noted that the encoder is faster than previous generations (M1, M2, M3), I'm curious about the quality improvements at these lower bitrates. I would greatly appreciate it if you could include this in your testing and share your findings. Thank you!
@ I was really excited to try a Windows Qualcomm laptop, but you’re telling me this MacBook is gonna perform better than the AMDGPU I was planning to buy next week lol. Why bother with the windows laptop then, this is awesome.
what about decoders? does the max has more capabilities on that? I'm waiting for the editing review... I have an RTX4090 desktop at the moment. I can afford to also have an M4 mac studio possibly
I love the videos you make about the macbook pros, It's also really nice to see that we are so close to have an apple device that can give Nvidia some competition i really want someone to step up to the 3D rendering test and give some dam good results. Apple already have proven themselves in 3D simulation to run better than anything else with the M2 Ultra so now it's time to see if they can increase the speeds on the laptop side of things.
Hey wait a minute, you showed on previous videos your editing setup however I notice you have different desktops to compare and benchmark - I reckon you used or tried editing yah vids on them
Your PC remains faster in many aspects and allows you to accomplish a multitude of tasks more swiftly, including faster Cinebench performance. With more PCI-e lanes, it also offers a broader upgrade path.

Congratulations. You have an upgradable PC. I also just ordered the 7950x, along with parts for a new mini ITX workstation rig and I grabbed a 4080 super, 64GB Ram and 4TB nvme. Quite impressive I’ll admit but not at the price point they demand, especially when I can grab a 4080 super along with all the part for a itx build for more than $1000 difference. I will admit that Windows isn’t my favorite but after I run Chris Titus debloating scripts, it’s been smooth as butter and rarely deal with any Windows issues. I use my machine for 2D/3D Illustration and animation.
