I've been a service writer for Jeep for over 3 years. I see more internal engine issue out of the 3.6 than the 3.8. The 3.6 is prone to lifter and rocker failure which can lead to more internal engine issues. The 3.8 is not enough engine for this vehicle. It's the same engine that's in the mini Van's of that time. The major problem with the 3.8l is oil leaks. The love to leak from every crevice. Valve covers, upper and lower intakes, rear main seal, upper and lower oil pan gaskets, etc. No big deal. Keep oil topped off and your good. Manual trans is good. But you have a good buy.
The bad fins in the front are the ac condencer not th actual radiator. If you dont plan on fixing it , pull that out will help with air flow to the radiator
My 3.8l has 200k miles. They go forever if you keep the oil levels up. Just add some Lucas oil additive every oil change and check your oil level every 1k and you should be good
You really really need to check that frame over. 07’s had notorious rear frame area hidden rot issues . Specifically by the exhaust on the rails and front control arm mounts . By what it seen yours looks really bad
Heard an engineer say it has enough space (well the JL does, assume the JK is close) even for a hellcat. Issue is there isn’t enough space after the fact to account for crumple zones and crash safety. Basically would be a death trap in any moderate front end collision. That said, a hellcat or hemi might be worth the safety risk 🤔

those o2 sensors look new. get the codes read. if you're getting p0171 AND p0174 at the same time, do yourself a favor and clean the MAF sensor with some MAF sensor cleaner and see if that fixes it. if you're getting both and cleaning doesn't fix it, it could be the MAF sensor itself. if you're only getting p0171 or p0174 by themselves, i would lean towards it being the catalytic converter (trouble code will tell you which side).
Sahara is the trim level and is pretty much the "luxury trim option". Strange that the top trim here opted for 6 speed manual, and cloth seats in stead of the usual leather and automatic. I owned a 2007 Rubicon that I bought with 160,000 miles on it. First let me say I love Jeeps but the thing was a never ending money pit. The 2007 was the first year of the new JK and it is on record as having many issues. Short list of what mine needed within first year of my buying it. 2 exhaust manifolds, water pump, front crank seal, complete catalytic converters replacement, brakes, intake gasket, egr sensor, and much, much more. I loved the Jeep despite it constantly needing work. It was fun to drive, despite being loud, and not comfortable to ride in, but it could go just about anywhere. Now I know people who have the 2012 or newer Jeep JK with the 3.6 and have had no issues. They worked out pretty much all of the new model issues by 2012. I now own an 2018 JL and so far it has been flawless, a much better ride, quiet, and comfortable but still a Jeep where it counts.
What you refered to as the radiator is part of the AC system, called the condenser. Refrigerant flows through the condenser to lower the temperature of the refrigerant, and if you're missing that many fins it could be inadequate cooling of the refrigerant, or whatever took all of the fins out also damaged the condenser lines which would have caused all your refrigerant to go bye bye
I would suggest putting a sport shifter in the Wrangler as the original shift bushings wear out and that play in the linkage can start eating the hard parts.
When you od the brakes and rotors go to the upgrade kit. Get bigger disks in the front. We know you'll get new rims for it eventually so might as well do it now.
I had a 3.8 and drove it for 10,000 miles and never had a problem. Drove it from 120k to 131k and it still ran after I totaled the Jeep from getting rear ended. I had a 4in rc lift with 35in ko2s with stock rims
Dont worry about people saying certain motors are junk. Any motor will last if the maintenance is kept up on it. Every motor has problems when you start neglecting the up keep.
Bigger tires=gears/truss and gusset the front axle/axle shafts front rear/tuner. No grumper grille or any Fab Four stuff. Oh and have fun when and if you change out the PVC valve lol!
Hey buddy! 2 things: new radiator for sure on the Jeep! Those fins help remove the heat from the radiator, and are important to have once the weather warms up. 2nd thing is the shifter. If I am taking a stab in the dark, it had drugs or a weapon in it that the police were looking for (hence auction Jeep) may have been a police impound.
Idk about the 3.8l being bad my parents have a 2010 Chrysler town and country with a 3.8l v6 with 250k and the only thing they've done is oil changes and plugs and wires engine wise
The 3.8L is less powerful than the 3.6L but it's also a LOT heavier which hurts a low hp car even more. Bigger tires will really hurt performance too but you can always re-gear. You probably have 3.23 or 3.73 gears but you could definitely go down to 4.10, 4.88 or 5.38 for a lot more oomph. Should've gotten a Rubicon with the locking diffs and sway bar disconnect buttons tho if you wanted to offroad
I have both 3.8 and 3.6 wranglers, the 3.8 is fine at 170k miles, just put 5w30 oil in it if you have oil consumption issues it fixed mine instantly haven’t burned a drop since.
I have the 3.8 and the 3.6 on 2 wranglers, the engine isn’t that bad while it is underpowered just put 5w30 oil in it not 5w20 and you’ll be fine trust me, I’ve got 170k on all original parts you’ll be fine.
Teraflex lift 35-38s put lockers and Dana 44 or 60 swap it bumpers winch rocksliders rock crawl it you will be impressed if you know how to do it they go anywhere and more than a truck but gets stuck in mud like the rest of em
Ayden Taylor mud takes a big wide tire with serious cleats. Even then it’ll swallow the baddest. Local guys used to do huge 44” tires. Lockers. Lifted. Big power for wheel speed and still stick the. So bad they need big tractors to get them out.
@@Owens_Racing Mud requires tall skinny tires. Look @ any piece of farm equipment in Louisiana and you will understand. In really bad mud holes you want the smallest footprint possible. The best tires I've ever seen perform in the mud were buckshot bias-ply aka co-op's and slightly just behind them due to tread depth would be gumbo mudders.
Got a 3.8 in my wife's minivan. I drive the thing like a race car and at 130k it still makes great power and runs super strong. There are good ones and bad ones just like anything else. Nice Jeep Mike enjoy it!
You can do a few bolt on mods to give the 3.8 the power it needs but for what it's worth you'd be better off getting the 3.6 especially if you want an automatic.
Mike, as a mechanic, and it being a Chrysler I can tell you that you need to have the front end checked out. Ball joints and tie rod ends all start to fail around that mileage. You can do it yourself, jack up the front end and put jack stands under the lower control arms so the tires are off the ground while the vehicle is resting on its own suspension. Stick a large prybar under the tire and pry. Have someone watch the ball joints. Also wiggle wheel side to side and feel for play in the tie rods. There should be no play at all. Be safe thanks for the videos
You should work with Shane and do cheaper car giveaways and actually build them on the channel and give them away, that’d be way cooler than one winner every 6 months or so
I can speak for most folks here... we like mike and enjoy watching his journey but I don't think any of us want him working on our shit. Id let him work on my truck before I let Send it steve near it but I am living pretty good with no sawzall holes or spray paint on my vehicle

That motor ain't bad. I have a caravan with a 3.8 with 191,000 miles. Only thing is it burns A LOT of oil, an irregular amount. Motor knocks but still runs strong

It looks like the ball joints were replaced recently which is good. But the O2 sensors were replaced also... So you might have a wiring problem but the first thing to check is the fuses. It's possible that the old sensors blew the fuse and they replaced the sensors and didn't think of checking fuses, just said screw it cause they were getting rid of it anyways. And that is the A/C condenser missing fins.

I now own an 2018 JL and so far it has been flawless, a much better ride, quiet, and comfortable but still a Jeep where it counts.
When he took the muffler of it sounded exactly like the Ford Raptors
Wayne Rhea those sound good, this pos doesn’t 😂
What you refered to as the radiator is part of the AC system, called the condenser. Refrigerant flows through the condenser to lower the temperature of the refrigerant, and if you're missing that many fins it could be inadequate cooling of the refrigerant, or whatever took all of the fins out also damaged the condenser lines which would have caused all your refrigerant to go bye bye
if the motor blows up just throw an LS in it. Hit up Evan Shanks, his dad has like 3 LS now jeeps I think
I would suggest putting a sport shifter in the Wrangler as the original shift bushings wear out and that play in the linkage can start eating the hard parts.
Mike is 16 year old me with money... buys nice vehicles, first mod is cutting off the exhaust 😂😂👍🏼
When you od the brakes and rotors go to the upgrade kit. Get bigger disks in the front. We know you'll get new rims for it eventually so might as well do it now.
Go with 315 75 16 tires (basically 35"), steel wheels, teraflex 2.5" lift and Amazon bumpers and you will be with in your budget.
Rather a 315/70 R17... 16 is harder to find
@@TerenceK-yq9iz true they are harder to find, but they are a lot cheaper. I ran 16s on my last 2 jks and was happy with them.
Go with 305/70/16 Falken wildpeak at3w
I had a 3.8 and drove it for 10,000 miles and never had a problem. Drove it from 120k to 131k and it still ran after I totaled the Jeep from getting rear ended. I had a 4in rc lift with 35in ko2s with stock rims
I need to do a build like this. I’m also coming around to jeeps. Especially a stick like that one. 🤘
Mike. You having the engine everyone hates is going to bring in the views even more. Nice Job Sir.
thats the A/C condenser with the missing fins btw, explains why the A/C doesn't work
That is the A/C condenser that is missing fins. That could most likely be your leak and keeping the A/C from working.
Put a CUMMINS in it!
i dont even think a 4bt cummins would fit in that engine bay.
K5 Guy I’ve seen a 5.9 12v stuffed in a early 2000s Tacoma, he could fit the 4bt easy, and the 5.9 with some modifications
He needs the Cummins R2.8
Dont worry about people saying certain motors are junk. Any motor will last if the maintenance is kept up on it. Every motor has problems when you start neglecting the up keep.
I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be many @senditsteve & @diabloformularacing cameos with this jeep build coming up.
Bigger tires=gears/truss and gusset the front axle/axle shafts front rear/tuner. No grumper grille or any Fab Four stuff. Oh and have fun when and if you change out the PVC valve lol!
dazedman20 *PCV valve.
Garry Sutherland Damn auto correct. Thank you sir
Before you change it to corsa cut it fully off and see how it sounds
Does your dog have a damn coach collar 😂
Mike the trick is, do a cold start then straight to red line. Hold ur foot to the floor for about 5 min. Vroom Vroom Jeep owner.
Idk about the 3.8l being bad my parents have a 2010 Chrysler town and country with a 3.8l v6 with 250k and the only thing they've done is oil changes and plugs and wires engine wise
Zach I our van and my Jeep are both doing great with the 3.8l. Van has 150,000 miles Jeep has 90,000
The 3.8L is less powerful than the 3.6L but it's also a LOT heavier which hurts a low hp car even more.
We're not lying, the 3.8 really is junk. Still a nice looking and clean Jeep though!
Not really had a mini van that had 225000miles on it and ran fine
Why is it junk?
thats the minivan though, your not offroading it
I have both 3.8 and 3.6 wranglers, the 3.8 is fine at 170k miles, just put 5w30 oil in it if you have oil consumption issues it fixed mine instantly haven’t burned a drop since.
The 3.8L V6 in your jeep is a reliable engine but it's underpowered for what it's being used for.
I can stand with you and that... it is very reliable... but very very underpowered
Agreed. Everyone that’s hating on it probably hasn’t even owned a car with the 3.8l. Very reliable
Yep. Have 3.8 and 3.3 mini vans.
I've owners 12 different jeeps and never had a engine blew. Every single engine I had was more then 200k miles. Every engine type besides wranglers.
You can do a few bolt on mods to give the 3.8 the power it needs but for what it's worth you'd be better off getting the 3.6 especially if you want an automatic.
You’re going to love that straight axle!!
Put a Cummins 4bt in tha jeep
The Jeep is awesome! And yes that motor isn't the best. Your biggest miss is not having lockers with the Sahara, but you can update to lockers.
Last time I was this early my girlfriend made me sleep on the couch
Lift the Jeep, hemp swap it, and throw AEV bumpers on it. Or just take it to AEV and they will do it for you.
*Take a shot every time he says "It was a really good deal"*
You really should go Hellcat motor in the jeep!
You should work with Shane and do cheaper car giveaways and actually build them on the channel and give them away, that’d be way cooler than one winner every 6 months or so
I can speak for most folks here... we like mike and enjoy watching his journey but I don't think any of us want him working on our shit. Id let him work on my truck before I let Send it steve near it but I am living pretty good with no sawzall holes or spray paint on my vehicle
pbrascal37 buddy I’ve been watching him since the hell kitty and I will say I haven’t missed a video however I’m talking about instead of them giving away a corvette maybe an older Camaro or mustang anything cheaper so we can have more opportunities to win.
That motor ain't bad. I have a caravan with a 3.8 with 191,000 miles. Only thing is it burns A LOT of oil, an irregular amount. Motor knocks but still runs strong
next video : Here's how much it'll cost to fix my Jeep
e s Hoovie? Is that you? Oh wait wrong channel.
3.8 is alright 3.6 can take more abuse with less maintenance but who cares Jeep gang💙
4.0 is 👑
Sahara is a more "luxury" wrangler. It has a more desirable interior. The sahara also comes standard with color matching fenders.
All your builds are cool, doesn’t matter what the brand, favourite channel on RUclips 👍🇦🇺
ADD a RIPP supercharger 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I love how in PA if it doesn't have rust holes people are like just some light surface rust
everyone of Mike's videos "blah blah blah STRAIT PIPE"
12:03 *LOVE THE CAMERA STAND YOUR USING.....* a orange 5 gallon bucket from home depot, lol....that's creative. 👍
If your v6 does blow up, than I think you should LS or Hellcat swap it.
Thats why i did lol
Did you LS or Hellcat swap it
On my tacoma.. Sorry.. But yea i have a LS l59 (5.3l v8 ) stage 4 cam 3000stall straight pipe. No video up on the channel as of yet. I have to get drivelines made to fit. Im make a real 4x4 Prerunner
Atleast it ain't a jeep compass
Get a older bronco , I’m pretty sure everyone would love to see that build
