You can change the input voltage on the unit itself. It’s simple to do and is explained well in the user manual. Now at the source (batteries), you will have to reconfigure the battery cables from 3 batteries in series to just the two batteries in series. The cool part is it can be done if needed. On my Ultrex (36vlt), I had to have three batteries or 36volts at all times with no option to run off 24 volts if I needed to (I.e. had a battery go bad).
MinnKota told me you can't go above 85% power when using lithium because the higher voltage will cause damage (to the brushes I think they said). I think they should create a source voltage setting or auto detect to prevent this problem.
I do on the ghost and have had no problems. I would think so but I would check with the MinnKota first just in case. I believe the issue was constant power at 100% when at 85% and below the supply is intermittent power. I burned up my armature on my Ultrex. Disclaimer I’m no tech just a dyi’er… 😉
I have serviced many Lowrance Ghost trolling motors and, from a service perspective, know everything about that trolling motor. I personally love the way it functions but I have concerns over it's durability. How are you feeling about the switch now? For reference the voltage indicator doesn't actually do anything but illuminate. The Ghost senses the incoming voltage automatically adjusts. The voltage indicator light is just a "feels" thing. The direction indicator however has always and will always be an issue. It is not as responsive as some would like. We remove them and polish the edges, and legs, then lube the legs with some Teflon and place a dallop of dielectric on the white tab underneath. It generally works about 75% better after that.
I still feel good about the switch. Other than the arrow. I think regardless of what one buys or chooses to use there will be issues of some sort. Stuff just isn’t built like it use to be.
@@caverncityoutdoors Go check out that Power Pole Move trolling motor if you're feeling like an adventure. I've been pushing that one because it looks like everything the Ghost wanted to be.
I bet!! Power Poles customer service is top notch!!! Best I have ever experienced! Just can’t afford one at the moment… maybe one day I can do a video on theirs @PowerPoleTotalBoatControl
I know this video is old but just now looking at it cause im looking into a new trolling motor..can get the ultrex..only problem ive had is the cable breaking...are you happy with your purchase? Let me know for sure....im getting another ultrex or ghost
Not sure just yet! So far the lowrance ghost has taken my abuse and I am found of the integration with my lowrance HDS Live’s. My uncle runs all hummingbird and will likely have one soon! I am sure it will be awesome as well! Probably going to do a comparison video!
#1 You started out by saying you are super hard on your equipment so apparently that Minn kota lasted through 5 years of abuse by you. Then you said a smashed connector "might" have been your fault, MIGHT HAVE BEEN? You said you have hit rocks and other stuff then complained that things broke, really. Lastly you said that long rod in your hand broke, maybe you hit a rock, I think you did hit a rock and it broke. What a piece of junk, 5 years of abuse and something broke because YOU hit a rock so the trolling motor is not what you want. From what you say, neither is an Abrams Tank. Apparently you think Garmin will not break, oops, something has already gone wrong with it. Good luck. Personally I think that trolling motor lasted extremely well considering the way you treated it according to YOU.
This very comment can be found, at some point, on literally every review from every manufacturer, other than Power Pole's $5K Move. And, I'm sure it's just a matter of time before one shows up there.... Until these companies stop making these things out of cheap parts in China, all we can do is buy whichever one comes up on sale, and pray it lasts. It's that simple, unfortunately.
Have the same problem with mine poor design. Not sure about the breakaway either watched Mikey Balzz hit a stump snapped the shaft in two. Looking forward to see how it holds up for you super careful with mine a piece of wood under it in shallow water.👍👍👍🤏🤏.
I have mine for 5 years no issues to date!! Best of luck to you with the ghost
Thanks! Working great so far!
You don't have to change any settings on the ghost to go from 24v to 36v and vice versa. It automatically detects the voltage.

I made that costly mistake. I’m glad I kept the Ultrex and switched back.
What issues did you have? Mines been great this last season knock on wood!
Damn day 1 and 3700 dollars later and already broke makes me want to send my lowrance fish finders back and got with hummingbird and minn kota

Yea and now Minn Kota has the new brushless motor.
@@caverncityoutdoors So is it OK to run full power with lithium on the brushless motor?

@@caverncityoutdoors I run Blue tops AGM on my Ultrex no issues at all

My ghost has been trash from day one. Going back to minkota
I have learned there are improvements that must be made. I now have the Power-Pole Move… amazing so far!
How is it holding up?
So far so good! I have been out about 8 tournament weekends no issues. 🤞
@@caverncityoutdoors good to hear! I’m trying to decide between minn kota or the ghost.
Now ultrex has the brushless quest gotta switch back 😂

Mine is a 2016 not one issue with it
Wait until you need to repair it!! 💸💰🤑

I was thinking the exact same thing
The ultrex is junk
