Installing a Megaware keel guard on a 2024 Phoenix 21 XE
Welcome to Cavern City Outdoors! In this video I am installing a Megaware Keelguard on a 2024 Phoenix 21 XE. I will install the keel guard below the bottom bow wing and will apply a bead of 3M 5200 (black) for about 6 inches. I also do this for the rear part. One thing to note is that the 5200 has a cure time of approx. 5-7 days depending on environmental conditions.
Update: So far it has made it through 6 or 7 trips with no indication of any issues.

"The Stinger" Recon Custom Baits- Brantley Lake Bass Fishing
I have been using ionic 100ah set for my 24v 80lb terrova trolling for crappie. They run twice as long as a set of group 31 interstates. They outlast me in a day of fishing. No more guessing how muxh juice i have left when finding a bite. U will not regret these batteries!
look like a great fishery. would be nice to hear your patterns, baits, structure, water temp, etc. looking for info to help with a fall youth tournament there
I just have a question about how is it in the rain do you have to close it or does it keep the rain out
Been in some heavy rain and wind. Never had an issue.
@@caverncityoutdoors thank you I appreciate the response weighing my options on hard-sided versus soft side
do you have any recommendation on putting on your keel guard on a boat that has a tunnel hull
What size is the truck bed
Genius Man !
How long is your truck bed?
6.5 I believe… not the long bed.
Damn day 1 and 3700 dollars later and already broke makes me want to send my lowrance fish finders back and got with hummingbird and minn kota
I gave you a subscribe and like maybe subscribe for as well! Great presentation I may have made my choice with this video. Thanks
I use to fish out of Rough Canyon Marina in the 80's and 90'. My old boss owned and ran the old bar and lodging there for many years, which made it easier on the wallet. I still know were some of the old ranches are that were flooded during construction, which is home to lots big size bass! Great Fishery!
best of luck fishing.
Thank you!
Great vid. Thx. I have saved over $60,000 with my pull trailer over the last 15 years, saving hotel/meals. I fish for salmon and steelhead out west. I want something like this because I can get a couple hours extra sleep. Instead of leaving my house at 3AM and I can wake at 4.30 at the ramp. This looks like a nice option because it is light and you don't need a hitch extender. My question to you-- if you had a 1 ton dually, would you go this route again or get a bigger, heavier hard side? I have the dually-- but I'm usually fishing alone now. Kids have grown up... But those bigger campers are over 3,000 lbs. That's alot of weight no matter the size of the truck.
If I had a 1 ton dually, I would have gone bigger. I do have 2 kids and a 80# Doby that frequently travel with me and the extra room and amenities offered would be nice. Although when it’s just me this camper has plenty of room. I do have a 24” hitch extension nothing crazy just a properly rated one from Reese.
Why are these batteries not more popular? Ive been running them for a lil more than 2 years...knock on wood... no issues. Just recently bought their 3 bank charger... so nice.
No clue… probably marketing!
right off the bat, first thing i notice is the water hookup is right above the electric hookup. It should be reversed, no?
I have the exact same camper in a large truck. If I deployed it while in the truck it would be about 8.5 feet off the ground. Would that be to high with the cover it provides. Also you should make a video about custom mounts.
You would definitely need a ladder to deploy and stow! It would work just fine as far as coverage it will be real close on the poles if you needed the extra support (ie. In Rain or wind). I really need to get that video done have a lot of requests.
@@caverncityoutdoors if your out for a while how do you set up your shower water since its on that side. I am going back and forth on what side I want it on. One side has shower water coming out and the other has the outdoor shower and heater exhaust.
I’ve honestly never used the shower in this camper. I’m normally at places with a shower facility.
What brackets did you use for mounting the 270 bat wing to the side of the unit?
Are you hooked to the alternator on your outboard or just relying on charging when hooked up to shore power?
Hooked to outboard on both sho and merc… no issues
You will zero issues with the guard or its placement. Good job
Hey bob I appreciate the boost of confidence. I’m on Rayburn now and so far not an issue!!!
Have you had any issues with the actuators for lifting the roof
Not at all … I have the older style ones that are internal to the canvas.
Can you tell me a little bit about your TV mount please
Anyone using these in winter? I live in PA and use my boat all year as long as there is no ice on the river. I currently use my deep cycle lead acid batteries in below freezing temps. Anyone using these batteries in below freezing temps? What about charging in below freezing temps? Thanks
I never have although Ionic makes some with built in heaters… of course we don’t need those in the south… 😆
I have my 2023 Palomino 1251 on a 2500 HD Duramax truck that I use to deliver 10,000 lb. firewood processors with all over the US. No motels. No check in check out. No reservations. No bed bugs. (Ewwww) I can stop and over night just about anywhere. If I am by myself I dont even need to pop it up to catch a nap and the bathroom is still use able with enough head room. This is my 6th truck camper in 20 years. Three have been Palominos.
I'd like to put one of these on my tremor 7.3. Can you make a video on the maintenance and details that need to be considered to make sure it lasts? Can't you use it in the back of the truck without taking it off?
You don’t have to take it off… that’s just a personal preference. I’ll try and get some more videos out on it soon… just got done filming a couple today.
I’ve been using 3 Ionic 50ah for my trolling motor for 3 years now and love them. I’ve only killed them once and that took roughly 10 hours of use fishing in fast current. I’m about to upgrade my crank/electronics battery to the Ionic 125ah but I’m debating if I should go with 2 in parallel. I’m not running near as many electronics as you are though. Just a 12” graph at the console and 7” on the bow.
Ya I've been waiting for you to go thru the mounting process. Can you please teach us. I have this awning but it's sadly on my roof rack and not working out great. Where did you get the brackets?
So I made custom brackets… I’ll try to get a video filmed this week… 🤞
@@caverncityoutdoors that would be great. I've got a concept in mind using aluminum T slot bars. Would love to see what you got going on before I drill holes in my new camper.
Hi there, just checking in. Would love to see the installation.
I too would like to see and hear any info on the installation of the awning. I just recently acquired a palomino 1251 and am interested in a side awning. Thank you. L Thomas.
Please show how and what you used for the brackets and attachments for the awning
My ghost has been trash from day one. Going back to minkota
I have learned there are improvements that must be made. I now have the Power-Pole Move… amazing so far!
Where did you get the brackets for your awning.
You ever figure it out?
What do you think about the soft flaps?? Is that an issue at all or no? Like in high winds etc.. I just am purchasing a 1240... and first timer here haha
Not a problem at all … had in some high winds could tell it was blowing but not sketchy at all.
I have an SS 1251 as well and I would never set that thing off the truck and walk around in it they say it's hard on the frame
It absolutely is harmful if you do not provide additional support to the metal braces below.
Yay i love camping
who made your custom mounts??
I made the mounts. I’m going to try and get a video out soon!
Please and thank you!
The 2016 build looks SO much better than my 2021 build... Can't stand the outside actuators. Already had to do the upgrade because 3 of them failed. Can you give some details on how you installed the tv? Length of fasteners, did you just drill into the ceiling willy nilly or did you have some structural points?
I know this video is old but just now looking at it cause im looking into a new trolling motor..can get the ultrex..only problem ive had is the cable breaking...are you happy with your purchase? Let me know for sure....im getting another ultrex or ghost
What is the payload capacity of that truck? How do you put a camper in the bed add people, pet, & all the gear/stuff they need, & pull a boat & stay under payload capacity?
Payload capacity is on the door. Best thing to do is math. Then drive to a cat scale and double check.
Are you under payload capacity? What do you do to stay under payload capacity?
Got to do the math and double check at cat scale. I’m just under payload. The reason I am rolling a soft side.
Great info, thanks,! Gonna be making purchase in couple weeks. I have a 115 Suzuki, would you know if they are fine to run lithium?
I have no experience with Suzuki. I would reach out to www.drewcraft.com. Andy has always been on point with his knowledge and expertise. I am confident he can answer any questions you have.
I'm looking for strong cranking batteries to start up my boat without any issues. You ran them parallel and starting up the boat is no issue? I have 175hp mercury.
I had no issues with my Yamaha 250 SHO single or in parallel.
Same with my 200 Yamaha SHO. I run a single Ionic 100 amp hour as a cranking battery. But my electronics don’t run off of my cranking battery. Always at 99% when I check it with the app. I agree they are awesome.
How does the skeeter handle after the wight loss
I have a question my boat is usually 2 hours away from where I leave, I go on the weekends and usually fish. Can I put the ionic battery on the charger and leave it until the next time I fish. Also leave it on when I’m storage it for the winter
I personally would recommend taking off the charger as soon as it’s fully charged. My batteries charge up quick maybe 2 hours or so. I have left mine on the charger and the battery goes to standby mode to prevent overcharging which can lead to thermal runaway and fire. Thats only if the internal battery management system was to fail. I have not heard of this happening on these particular batteries. Once charged the batteries hold the charge a long time. They do not self discharge at the rate of lead acid or agm. Hope that helps.
@caverncityoutdoors..did your Skeeter lose any top end speed after going with all lithiums?
@vernonneal7050 not that I noticed but my skeeter was always slow… 😂
@caverncityoutdoors Funny...I have a 2023 ZXR19 that I'm switching over to all lithiums...I've heard more Skeeter guys say they didn't lose any top end, but actually gain 2-3 mph
Yea I actually felt like it handled better… I could feel the difference I can’t say I gained or lost speed.

Para cuando el vidéo le brakets? I have de palomino ss1600
What to do with grey water?????
Dumps on the ground or get a external tank.
I carry a 5 gallon bucket that captures my grey water. Can use it to put out camp fires or flush the black tank…🙃
What are the typical maintenance items you refer to?
I have the ovs270 and a ss550. Please teach me how!
I think you mean pros and cons.
MinnKota told me you can't go above 85% power when using lithium because the higher voltage will cause damage (to the brushes I think they said). I think they should create a source voltage setting or auto detect to prevent this problem.
Yea and now Minn Kota has the new brushless motor.
@@caverncityoutdoors So is it OK to run full power with lithium on the brushless motor?
I do on the ghost and have had no problems. I would think so but I would check with the MinnKota first just in case. I believe the issue was constant power at 100% when at 85% and below the supply is intermittent power. I burned up my armature on my Ultrex. Disclaimer I’m no tech just a dyi’er… 😉
@@caverncityoutdoors I run Blue tops AGM on my Ultrex no issues at all
Great review! Thanks! Where did you get your TV mount and how to locate the structure in the ceiling to mount it to? Thank you!!
I missed it. Are you using 12v or 24v batteries ? I’m new to marine batteries
I am using 12 volt batteries. They have been great.
I'd really like to see how you mounted this. I have a 2016 SS-1251 and I'm looking an OVS 270 awning, exactly the same one as you deployed, from the looks of it. I noted that you didn't relocate the top shell clamps, so I'd really like to see how you made this come together!
I’m going to try and get a video out soon!
