    Man! who would say he almost left NSD because he had a problem speaking English? He sounds like an author, describing each and every nuance with such finesse. A legend who never got his due in India.

      Is it that shocking? People in Bollywood are not judged on talent. Secondly people who can't speak English in India are termed illiterate so pls stop showing this kind of ignorance. Nothing so shocking about it, look at Sachin, Akshay Kumar (who still struggles) Virendar Sehwag, Harbhajan. Why is that not so shocking

    Just finished watching Sadgati (1981) after listening to this. Beautiful movie.
    I have been unlucky not to have experienced any of Mr. Ray's movies thus far.
    But, I am also extremely lucky because I get to start that journey now.

      Sadgati was written by Munshi Premchand - but to appreciate Ray fully , you’ve got to watch Pathar Panchali - his greatest work jn my view

      @@rajsingh-uw8ly His first work and he hit it out the park with severe budgetary constraints. I read several shots could not be re-taken as film was expensive back then (1954).

    This is a wonderful piece of talk. Well, as Bengali, we know many aspects of Satyajit Ray. But this speech tells us the sensitive character of Om Puri more. Of course, he was sensitive, articulate, and cerebral, but as a human being, he surpasses many others.

    What a tribute to the maestro from a great actor. Om Puri's homage had everything from humility to humour, from anecdotes to anger -- but there was no mistaking the deep respect and awe he had for Satyajit Ray. Thank you so much for uploading this gem

    Ray is not only Ray, he carried the legacy of Sukumar Roy,Upendrakishore Roy and Dwarakanath Ganguly.... A great talk on Satyajit Ray.

    Satyajit Ray should be more honoured when he was making films and alive.. He is India's gem. He should get more love and respect when he was alive. Industries were remained ungrateful then. It's give me so much pain alltime. He is such a true inspiration for all.

      Reason being his work was not dubbed, even not available with sub titles in other languages of India, majority people in our country are not conversant with Bengali and English ( sub titles )…

      He is the son of a Bangladeshi Poet and most of the famous film music and cinema people from Bengal are from present-day Bangladesh. Alauddin Khan, Ravi Shanker, Satyajit Ray, Suchitra Sen, Bimal Ray, Rittwick Ghatak, SD Barman and Many others.

    What an interview! One of India's greatest actors on perhaps her greatest director. I saw Sadgati only once in mid 1982, on a TV screen at a neighbor's house in Kolkata, just before leaving India to come to the US, and memories are somewhat sketchy. Knew Ray's greatness ever since 1955, but really appreciated the style and content of Om Puri's "homage".

    I loved the moment when Shri Om Puri talks about a lady who suggested to Shri Satyajit Ray that he should wear Kurta Pajama. And he replies that then he will look like Mrinal Sen. What a moment. Brilliant! 😊🙏

    Om Puri is a great man. He, Naseeruddin Shah, and Anupam Kher studied in Delhi and studied
    National School of Drama in Delhi.(watch on Anupam Kher TV program).

    The last word of Om Puri "Will meet again Manik da " is so poignant. We lost Om Puri too, it was sudden and shocking. One of the greats of Indian cinema who was under utilized , underappreciated. Will miss you forever.

    It’s amazing that Om Puri, who was not formally educated , spoke such good English , in fact better than most Indians who are formally educated … and what a heartfelt tribute to legend of Satyajit Ray ! Truly , like Ompuri said , Satyajit Ray will never be dead and nor will be Ompuri…

    Brilliant outspoken Mr. Om Puri. I have listen a lot about legendary director Satyajit Ray but no one is very close to Om Puri. So frank and yet sensitive on his speaking. I miss the great actor Om Puri. He has enriched Indian Movie to a large extent.

    Om Puri ji was quite upfront and maybe rightfully so. Especially with the amount of talent he possessed and hardwork he did, he couldn't be blamed for being so upfront.

    It is said vidhura and Krishan are two sides of same coin!
