@dnjn67 I never saw them live my mate did in the eighties when they supported Bowie at Roker park Sunderland he said everybody was shouting for them not Bowie the new line up isn't the same
Stuart was an absolute superstar from his day's in the Skids who were without doubt one of the best bands to come out of Scotland not even up for debate, into the valley an absolute classic, so sad that Stuart had his demons. ♥ 🏴
Still find the complexity of their sound astonishing even after all these years, and they were one of those bands that could truly bring it live. Great video thanks for sharing.
Then, I was 18 years old. Listening to their unique sound reverberating around Sefton Park will be one of my most cherished memories. And hearing Chance for the first time together with everyone there and subscribing to the song's majesty, devastation and beauty.
The 2 lads in the water are Gary Martin and Lol Price. They were standing next to me then disappeared -then re-appeared in the water! Mad as a box of frogs. We all had to get the bus home afterwards -they were soaking wet and covered in mud!!
Utter legends. I went to Sefton Park a lot as a kid, and the water never looked particularly enticing! I can't believe I missed Big Country playing there.

The memories come flooding back 15 years old . Big gang of us stood on top of the hill going crazy . My first live gig they where fantastic thanks for putting this on .
Fantastic concert and especially the end. I remembered "Without the Aid of a Safety Net" when stuart approached the catwalk 🤣 Thank you very much for sharing.
very nostalgic watching this. forty years wow. i think this was my first exposure to BC, watching it at a friend's 14th birthday party, and i went on to fall in love with their sound and i would rate their december '84 gig at the NEC amongst the greatest of my life. they still had a few rough edges here, and the guitars being toned down allows you to hear just how amazing the rhythm section was. great upload.
Great performance. How i would have loved to have seen the band around this time. I had to wait till 1988/89 till i managed to catch them. The Crossing is one of my all time fave albums. I discovered the album around 1983ish and it helped shape my musical taste. Still hugely fond of the album to this day.
This was the first time i saw the band, then maybe TOTP then im sure this was repeated. Either way it made up my mind to go to the Reading Festival Aug 83 when they played a rousing set on the Friday night, next time was the Seer tour and our local venue in Stoke on Trent was packed to the rafters, following year on the Peace in Our Time tour i guess the game was sort of up as the venue was half full. One great memory from the 86 tour - they played the set, played the encores and the crowd was shouting singing, just would'nt stop and so they came back again and Stuart said "we've got no more songs to play" - so they started the set again!, cant remember how many before the venue management pulled the plug. A truly great band that should have followed the likes of U2, but they gave us The Crossing - end of.....
@@PurpleRecords1972 they didn’t have a good crack at America like U2 did. Mark told me Stuart wanted to be a dad as much as possible which is fair enough. They had plenty of support opportunities out there but the time on the road wasn’t really compatible with having a young family. Cracking America has always been a younger band’s game. Otherwise it’s going to push home life to the extremes. Same deal with Simple Minds according to Mel Gaynor. If a record label detects a hint that a band isn’t prepared to make the personal sacrifices to break the US market they’ll pull all American promo budgets. Well at least that was the deal back then. By the time U2 released War Paul McGuiness knew he had a band prepared to go all the way to crack America and he knew he had a good pitch to ask Island Records for the financial support and get their US partners working on promo. I knew a few bands who blew it back then with the US opportunity. Most get homesick and literally can’t handle the mental aspect of spending months and months on the road like performing robots. If Big Country had been Stuart’s first bite of the cherry instead of the Skids, maybe the US would have been possible to tackle properly.
@@PurpleRecords1972 "i guess the game was sort of up as the venue was half full." 😔 The thing is that they couldn't remain original if they kept repeating themselves and by dropping the sound of bagpipes they partly lost their charm. Could be?
I just about remember this. Shown on BBC2 early eveing. 1983. A pleasure to hear real drums in an ocean of drum machines that was happening at the time. Brilliant. Thanks so much for uploading. 👍
Aw the good old days .nothing like a BC gig .stuarts belting the lyrics out .Tony bruce mark hold your heads up high us fans do Respect .and thanks Andy as always Bliss
Saw them on the SFX in Dublin - was at the front , waiting - next minute there was a roar - stuey coming out off the jacks - heard the cheer, looked up at us , smiled and thumb up at us ... memories 🤣

My first time seeing BC live in Sevvy Park, have also seen the Mike Peters and Simon Hough eras as well, still a great band, will love them to my dying day :) x
I wish I had been there . I hope you go a big welcome from the Irish and Scottish communities in Liverpool . In fact I know you did . RIP Stuart . Sha!
This is the most spot on, pitch perfect live version to the recorded version of IABC that I’ve ever heard. Sounds like they recorded it that day and then played it at night. Stunning. Great stuff, Andy!
We usually never ventured to south liverpool only if we pulled birds from there in town ha ha,anyways we thought we would go see them glad we did ,a really good live band, the bunnymen also played there l think maybe the la s too. It's great getting old eh ,ah fuck it.
I *so* wanted to go to this gig, but the girl I was going out with didn't want to go! My 2 mates went and I got to go to the pub instead with her! We went to Nick Heyward the next night though....10p for any journey on public transport in Merseyside that night. Watched this when it was broadcast but I didn't have a video recorder so I recorded the mono TV audio on a cassette tape and played it to death! Got to see them later on in September when they played Liverpool again and met them afterwards which gave me chance to ask Mark loads of questions. Such an epic fail going to see Nick Heyward the night after this gig but that's how it goes when you're a teenager!

Amazing !! Greetings from Uruguay
WE met the band before the gig and asked Staurt to re-mane angle park as Sefton Park -which he did! An absolute gentleman.
You asked him to do what?
You're the one who got him to say that? That's epic man!
