Lol...there are times when it does kind of feel that way. Being on the trail way-finding and trying to create something new is a GREAT way to spend my workday.
Oregon is absolutely incredible man. I need to spend more time exploring in it and this video is super motivating. Can’t wait to see the AOR when it’s released
Thank you! Ya the point of making this route is for it to be accessible to the average person wanting to explore more..so while I'd prefer a bit more dirt (and maybe we'll keep working in more as we go), it's not really a bad thing since the roads are all FSR and are still taking you through incredible places.
Logging road 101…have a CB to communicate what road you are traveling on and the mile marker so log trucks coming out know about where you’re at…last thing you want to do is meet one on a blind corner. Just discovered the channel and love the content!!!!
Great tip..someone else mentioned this as well. If I hadn't had the drone up, we would have met that logging truck on a blind corner. Needless to say I was apprehensive about trucks for the rest of that section.
This just happened to us. We must have missed a sign. An hour and half deep into woods, we hit a gate and on the other side there was a sign that said no motorized vehicles. It's all timber company land and we even drove past TWO workers in trucks and they didn't stop us. A 3hr reroute later and we ended up going to a campsite we've been to before. On another note, I want to sincerely thank you Will. This takes a LOT of work to create a new trail and to share this with all of us is a blessing. Keep up the amazing work! I hope to one day be as good a storyteller as you.
Thank you so much! I'm not certain whether or not the roads were actually closed, or that the sign just hadn't been taken down...but I wanted to put it on camera anyway as a good learning point for others.
Sometimes you just have to send it on those crusty snow but good choice on calling it when things got sketchy. Also, ain’t nothing wrong with well kept roads. Adventure is adventure and Chris’s one liners was on point on this one 😂. Great video Will
Thanks man. I think MT tires do much worse in the snow. They dig instead of float. In snow you want snow to pack in to the tires and MTs expel the snow.
@Venture2Roam not in N. Idaho. M/Ts bite into the snow so you don't have to pack them into slicks, and make it so you don't need to use your throttle. M/Ts allow you to truly crawl through snow with only the torque of your engine and the bite of the tire. It's the over use of throttle that makes you spin out and dig in.
@@jdshaw2751 We'll have to agree to disagree on this subject. It likely depends on what snow type you're driving. I can see MTs being useful more in wet snow. The rubber compound matters as well. It would be a pretty great video though right? Comparing MTs vs ATs in the snow?
Forgive me if you know this. But I usually have a CB ONLY for when I’m in an active logging area they post the channel to monitor and call out your position so the trucks know where you are and they are. I’ve more than once had to pass one where there is NO room except to be over the cliff a bit. Peace ☮️ love your vid’s and so happy you are continuing your craft.
No I didn't know this...this is great info. I don't drive through logging areas often, and like you saw, we almost caught a truck on a blind corner...if I hadn't had the drone up and saw it coming, it would have been much scarier.
You are showing some beautiful and wondrous country in Oregon. There is diversity in the state & mountain country is special in my view. Spring snow on roads & getting through those corridors? As temps increase during the day (in the spring) the snow will normally soften and create challenge & risks. I was concerned for you two (drivers). Thank goodness you got out of there, safely.
Awesome video. Michigan snow gets just like that in the winter months. Had to deal with that on a trip this past winter while tracking some OnX trails in northern Michigan!
There's plenty there for folks to explore as they pass through. I would have liked at least one more day to just drive around that area. Next time I'll try to go see those things you mentioned!
Love what you guys are doing , hope to get on it one day. You might like to carry a pair of snow "creepers" to strap on your shoes when out in that slick hard icy snow. Just an idea. Great video. cheers
Thanks for sharing this. Tough trail in the snow, but when it's dry looks like a nice enjoyable drive. I just sold my 392 and bought a RAM dually, I think the 392 is great, but honestly not the best for overlanding IMO. The best platform for overlanding (not off-roading) tight trails is the Gladiator, but honestly unless you're doing super technical trails, most stock 4x4's can go to all these trails. So with that in mind I figured I would just buy a 3500 dually with the H.O. diesel. I am going to eventually buy a gladiator, but want to see what they are going to do with the engine options (hopefully a hurricane is in the future). I appreciate you all putting in the work to identify and preview these trails.
You should have contacted local off road clubs and ask if they would like to help or had experiance on your roures. I drive my jeep and sxs in that area and have routes on my tablet. My YJ is stretched to 114 inch wheel base mog 404 portals and 42 inch tires. I have all kinds of recovery gear including a winch and on board air. We usually run 2 to 5 psi in the tires.
I went there last May. There were sooooo many mosquitoes throughout that area. I want to try again in the fall sometime, or late summer when I’ve heard it’s not really an issue.
This is making me realize that I need to upgrade my mapping app. I currently use google satellite to map out my routes, I'm often guessing who's land I'm on for some camping spots.
Another great one for the books! I have to ask though, what's the deal with the button-up shirts for off-roading? Wouldn't you prefer something a bit looser and more comfortable that you feel OK getting dirty?
Thank you so much!!! The clothes thing is kind of recurring comment. I wear the clothes I find to be the most comfortable. My clothes are all actually camping/hiking/fishing/hunting/off-roading clothes. But that said - fashion is subjective so I take no offense if people don't like the way I dress...to each their own right?
Yep. I really wasn't thinking we'd run into snow. I have a Warn winch that's sitting on my garage floor because I've been dragging my heels on a new front bumper. Dumb.
@@Venture2Roam Front bumper decision, like wheels, is rarely easy and often gut wrenching. I suggest looking for something with a recessed winch for maximum air flow to the radiator. I just ordered a set of Method Beadgrip wheels yesterday as well for my Wrangler. 😀
The bead grips are pretty incredible. Soooo much lighter than beadlocks...and they work really well. I regularly go down below 10 psi on them with zero issues.
I bought my JL with a plastic bumper knowing I I was gonna switch it out. After weeks of agonizing after something that I liked, I came to realize the stock metal bumper with the end caps removed was the perfect bumper for the front of the jeep or gladiator. Went with the Rugged Ridge Arcus and wish I had the stock metal. Just run that.
You guys are definitely trying your best Man did this video get on my nerves. Not sure why we are redoing a route that literally came out two years ago. Also not sure why you went snow wheeling without a front winch on one of the vehicles. I guess makes sense since you guys are from out of town but summer snow is commonplace here in the Cascades. Not sure if it was poor planning but should have been expected

Man, so jealous about being able to snow wheel this time of the year. Beautiful trails.
The snow wheeling was really fun...until it wasn't...but even then it was fun to work the trail and use our gear.
@@Venture2Roam how far did you air down? With those Methods you could easily go down to 5 psi.

Being from western Oregon win I moved to northern Idaho I thought all the trees were dead or dying lol . Don and Donna thanks for some old memories

That first area with the tree is a perfect example of why I firmly believe in a good M/T tire with lower inflation on the tires. Great video, Will.

It was mashed potatoes by the end of the day. Hard to believe Michigan is that warm in the winter.
