MAPPING THE LAST ROAD IN OREGON | A New Overland Route For YOU!

  • We are 4 nights in to an attempt to fix a 1,000 East/West Overland route across Oregon that we’re sharing with all of you. We’ve been through the heat of the desert, the rainy cascades, and the rain forested coastal range…BUT snow covered roads prevented us from mapping the section between Diamond Lake and Roseberg Oregon - so we are making one last attempt to finish this route and give it to all of you.

    Will, your Idaho BDR movie got me hooked on the idea of overlanding. My wife is from Brooklyn and I'm a country boy. After 35yrs together, that movie was the spark that got my wife interested in camping with me. I've hunted, camped, and mountain biked in the woods for years. Thanks to you, Independence Overland, Off the Grind, and Ozark Overland Adventures, she has decided to give it a shot. I am eternally grateful!!! God bless you and your family.

    Looking forward to driving this route! We love to see all the beautiful scenery and visit locations. Due to limited time we prefer to know we are going to see something amazing and that we can get there without worrying about IF we can make it solo. Truly appreciate the trail you are providing. We will do our part to keep it clean.

    I live outside of Roseburg and caught glimpses of familiar scenery. I've hunted, fished, and explored all of the areas you traveled. I've also climbed Mt. Thielsen several times. It only takes a few hours and is well worth the climb. There is so much to see and enjoy in the West. It makes it hard to imagine living anywhere else.

    One things inexperienced drivers need to remember. Regardless of how smooth the road surface is NEVER drive faster than what you can see and stop incase your meet another vehicle. I have been driving logging roads for over 55 years. It is so easy to drive faster than it is safe to stop incase of meeting an oncoming rig. Believe me log trucks can not stop very fast. .Not Mt Baker, it is Mt Baily. Timing is always a challenge. Early summer risk snow and bugs, late summer wildfires. I love Late fall early winter just before fist snows.

      Very very good advice. I’ve never said that on camera, but will think about how to work that in. It’s a rule of how we drive, but I’ve never articulated as well as you just did.

      Yes, I made the route with trailers in mind. It should be an offroad trailer, but there are sections where even RV trailers would be fine I think. I'm making a video that will be an overview of the route itself and will cover all of that stuff.

    17:24 yes that's the risk, and somewhat ironic given the b-roll driving thru a recent forest fire. It's hard enough with the lightning risk inherent to this area, but lots of folks who don't know how to act in the wilderness are finding their way out to more remote areas, and causing fires (at worst) or leaving trash (at best). If people have the ability to overland, they should also work up to routes like this, and learn to explore thru trial and error like the rest of us. It's not gatekeeping, it's just what's required to preserve our wild spaces. It doesn't seem like a noble service to publicize these routes for content, people can enjoy nature without it. I really don't care what those who don't live here think about that, the people who live here understand what's at stake

    • @Venture2Roam
      @Venture2Roam  14 дней назад +1

      I firmly believe that when people get outside and experience the backcountry, the world becomes a better place...especially in today's ultra screen time world. In my opinion and experience, there's just as much damage caused by people trying to make their own routes, who maybe shouldn't be trying to do that, than people who are using established routes like the BDRs.

    • @tjkrueger2655
      @tjkrueger2655 14 дней назад +1

      @@Venture2Roam It's a bit of a chicken/egg thing thought too, yeah? We've lost some of the most iconic forests in Oregon these past few years (as I know Idaho has experienced too), and despite people loving our wild spaces a lot/too much, it doesn't feel like we're getting closer to a point where we leave no trace or have moved past human-caused fires. Quite the opposite. Just white-knuckling through July-Sept every year, and running into more idiots who don't know how to act in nature. Maybe they're just better suited for nature hikes closer to town than ruining things for social media reels. It's the nexus of climate change and spiking interest that is unfortunate

      Both beetles and fires. There are LOTS of unburned forests as well…but sometimes the only chance to get a view is through a burned area, so that’s often when I fly the drone.
