@16:30 "We're coming up to Barber Flat." - Barber Flat and Barber Flat Guard Station (GS) are on the North Fork of the Boise River, and Alexander Flat is on the Middle Fork of the Boise River. The trail from Idaho City to Atlanta went through both flats, and there used to be a travelers' station and a CCC Camp located on Alexander Flat. The CCC Camp foundations are still visible between the road and the river. I was sure surprised to see the Eagle nest on top of the pinnacle @ 41:55. Cool view of the nest. BTW - I lived at Barber Flat GS, Deer Park GS, Dutch Frank GS, and Atlanta GS during the summers of 1973 to 2017 while working for the Forest Service...
Thanks for the clarification! I always confuse Barber and Alexander...they are kind of interchangeable in my mind because they are directly connected by that road...sorry for the mistake. Honestly, I never cared to know the names of those places until a few years ago..it was always just..."that place where the road connects the middle and north forks" lol. But hearing that you lived there during the summers makes me want to get the names right out of respect for you and your Forest Service colleagues.

Another well done video. Looks like everyone had a great time and saw some beautiful sights. The only down side was that there seemed to be way too many commercials.
It was so dumb of us not to talk about who had an awning..it would have taken me 10 mins to put one on the Truck...just didn't think about it! Never again lol.
say if you had a big enough tarp to throw over the hood to help hold some heat in that buddy heater would have worked. "maybe" lol awesome video! thanks for sharing
Don't give up on the heater .... I've been running one for 3yrs without issues and the dry heat eliminated any condensation issues we were experiencing. I can say they do not like any restriction on the exhaust and they will smell a bit when new. (especially at start up). IMO some of the smell also comes from the ducting. Mines a 3kw running off a 500w Jackery, but I have been hearing that the 8kw's seem to require higher amperage for startup. It might be that the 8kw's need an actual house battery unless you can find a power supply with a 15 amp rated plug as most max out at 10 amps. I test ran my kit for a few hrs before actually taking it out in the field and I also purchased a handheld CO detector. The heater has always read zero except at the exhaust, however I would always run a portable detector during the night for peace of mind. A Propex or Wabasto is on our list if the cheaper units fail.
Awesome info. If I can make it more dummy proof and dependable I'll keep trying. I got tired of messing with though, so it's just sitting in my garage at the moment...maybe I'll switch to a 3Kw just to lower the power draw..I can't imagine 3Kw not being enough to heat a tent.
Atlanta is such an awesome place all year around but super cool in the winter ! Another great video 👍 Tracks were mostly likely cat, especially when they are one In front of another like that ! wolf tracks would have been as big or bigger than a fist! Everytime I think I see a wolf track then when I really do you know haha they are huge !
Hello from Canada. Looks like a similar winter wonderland. Frozen latches might have a rubber cover accessory, if not try applying food grade silicone spray 'before' your trip.
If no one has mentioned it to you, RSI has latch covers that they will send you to prevent freezing like that. Dry them out and use a graphic lube and you won’t have that issue once you put the covers on.
Ya I saw those. Part of the issue is that if you lift up the wings when it’s snowing…snow gets in the latch and makes it easier for them to freeze. I started locking the latches whenever the wings were up and it helped a lot.
@venture2roam the ket to the diesel heater is that you need a semi rigid dryer vent for the intake that pulls clean air away from the unit. I use a 5' tube on my heater so I never pull in any exhaust.
Its funny how many people on FB camp groups bash diesel heaters as some kinda super luxury item that 'sissyfied' the camp experience. Last week's New Years Eve trip near Dillon, MT it was 17 during the night. I thoroughly enjoyed the luxury item while I roughed it.
Staying warm is not overrated lol. I can have fun without a heater...but it's so nice to wake up and be able to just relax in your tent until the sun comes up. FB groups are super toxic...there's only like 3 I pay attention to anymore.
Check the wire gauge on your disel heater plug. I had a similar issue and realized that even though it was advertised to work for diesel heaters, it wasn't thick enough. Get a 12AWG minumum. Also make sure your outlet tube isnt crimped or blocked in any way. I've had all the codes lol. You also need to clean it and replace the glow plug every so often. Once you figure it out you'll never suffer ag8.
You can’t have the exhaust and air intake of the Vevor located in the same place. Your heater was sucking in the exhaust and pushing it in to your tent. Another good video.
Glad you enjoyed it. We tried many different configurations of the exhaust..and the heater threw 3 different codes the next night..I didn't want to dwell on it, so I didn't record it and just moved on.
Two parts water. One part rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. It'll thaw out your latches instantly as well as the frost on your windshield.
You can go a little stronger with the alcohol. Make sure it's cold if you spray it on a frosted windshield though. Also, NAPA Auto parts carries shield defroster in aerosol can that works really great.
Everybody I know who has bought one of those Chinese diesel heaters have regretted it. They all have some problems and require constant futzing around with to make them work. I certainly wouldn't depend on one in sub-zero temps.
In some ways, yes the Gladiator is boring compared to the 392...but it's sooooo nice to have all of the extra room. On this trip I had the bed PACKED with wood for fires..something that's really hard to do in the 392.
Thank you. No comparison. I've yet to find something that makes better coffee at camp besides a straight pour over...but I really like the way it presses the coffee.
Did you have a solution for the diesel heater fumes? I had the same situation and it wasn’t from the exhaust it was like it was pumping it through the hose. Odd… no fuel leaks or anything
It might be caused by spilling diesel when filling up the tank...could also be the heater just burning off initial crud...You might just run it for a few hours and see if it gets better?
The diesel heater needs any where from 9-12amps to power up through startup. Your power station has a regulated 10amp car socket. It’s likely your diesel heater needs to pull slightly over 10 amps for startup. There are only a handful of power stations that have a car socket that supports more than 10 amps.
