Hey one thing that I did instead of starching the hat was stuffing 2 lightweight grocery bags inside the shell. Same idea for stuffing as the Twisted Kraken Hat. I wore my snail shell hat to a music festival this weekend and was turning heads everywhere I got a ton of compliments. I can’t get over how awesome this hat is!!

Things like do you get the top parts soaking wet in the mix, or do you just dab it on? Do you squeeze it out? Inside and outside. How many coats?

    • @bogartknits7320

Hello! I usually stuff the inside of the hat with a plastic bag with whatever rags or small towels to shape it. The plastic bag prevents it from sticking. I had used glue in the past mixed with water to stiffen it, but I've noticed there is a discoloration that shows up with certain yarns so I might try cornstarch next time. I usually spray the starch on with a spray bottle (I got it from the dollar store) once I have the shape that I want it. I have a styrofoam manaquin head to help shape it
